Panic is contagious.

My mentor Mau was one of the greatest 
master navigators in the world.

In the middle of a violent storm, 
when no one onboard expected to survive, 
Mau held steady.

He didn't shout.
He didn't panic. He read the weather conditions, 
trusted his training, and brought everyone home.

The crew didn't survive because of his title.
They survived because of his calm.

3 things Mau's calm taught me about real leadership:

1. Calm is a signal, not a personality trait. 
It tells others: we're not sinking. It's a choice you make

to call a friend in California.

The phone rang. No answer.

I tried again. Nothing.

A week later, I learned she'd tried to take her life 
that morning.

The housekeeper went upstairs because the phone 
wouldn't stop ringing.

That instinct to keep calling saved her.

That experience changed how I live:

In a childhood where chaos and fear were constant, I learned to listen deeply.

Not out of curiosity, but to stay safe.
I grew up reading the smallest signs, trying to understand if my mom was slipping again.
I watched her moods change like weather.
I listened for danger in her silence.
Every breath mattered.
Every shift in her energy told me if the night would stay calm or collapse.
Her pain was so heavy it pulled her to the edge again and again, more times than I can count.
I was a child standing between her and the end, trying to keep her here with words I barely knew how to say.

Years later, acting gave that sensitivity a voice.
On stage, I learned what it means to be fully seen and to truly see others.
It taught me how to listen beyond words.
How to let emotion move through me without drowning in it.
How to turn vulnerability into strength instead of fear.
It was the first place where I didn’t have to stay alert to stop a collapse.

Then came tango.
What first felt like a dance became a language.
In silence, I discovered trust.
In movement, I discovered presence.
I learned when to hold on.
When to let go.
How to meet someone without disappearing.
How to stay with myself even in closeness.
Tango showed me connection without catastrophe.
Closeness without fear.

Those worlds were never a detour.
They were preparation.

Because healing begins when we learn to be with what is.
When we stop fixing and start listening.
When we remember we’re allowed to take up space too.
For a child who learned to stay small to keep someone else alive, taking space later in life is its own quiet rebellion.

Today I bring that understanding to my work as a coach, an actress, and a tango dancer.
I guide women who’ve spent their lives caring for others back to themselves.
To the voice they silenced.
To the truth they’ve been carrying quietly for years.
To a place where self-trust feels possible again.
I know the weight of holding everything together too soon.
I know how exhausting it is to be the steady one.
And I know the relief of finally returning to your own breath.

Because you deserve more than survival.
You deserve to feel safe.
You deserve to feel seen.
You deserve to feel free.

That’s the work we do together.

Self-awareness is not impressive if you are still repeating the same pattern.

A client I worked with recently told me,

“I understand why I people-please. I just cannot stop.”

She had done the mindset work.
She knew the language.
She could analyse her childhood in detail.

And still, when someone showed even slight disappointment, she said yes.

That is where most people stay stuck.

Because knowing the pattern does not dismantle it.

If your value has been built on being dependable and indispensable, your nervous system will protect that identity.

Not your boundaries.

So we did not work on confidence.

We dismantled the belief that being needed equals being safe.

When that shifted, the behaviour followed.

No forcing.
No rehearsing.
No drama.

Boundaries stopped feeling heavy.

That is the difference between insight and change.

You don’t have weak boundaries.

You have a nervous system that panics at disapproval.

That’s the real issue.

Most women know what to say.

That’s not the problem.

The problem is what happens after.

The silence.
The change in tone.
The look on someone’s face.

That’s where you collapse.

So you soften.
You over-explain.
You add reassurance.

Not because you’re unclear.

Because your body isn’t steady yet.

One of my clients recently said no in a meeting.

She didn’t justify.
She didn’t rescue the tension.
She stayed grounded.

The room adjusted.

That’s what real confidence looks like.

Not louder.

Steadier.

You don’t build that with scripts.

You build it by retraining how your body responds to disapproval.

That’s the work I do.

If you are still rewriting the message,

the pattern is still running.

A client used to rehearse boundaries for hours.

She would rewrite messages.
Rethink her tone.
Prepare for reactions that rarely came.

A few weeks into the work, something changed.

She sent a clear message.

Two sentences.

No apology.
No over-explaining.

She closed her laptop and didn’t think about it again.

Not because she forced herself.

Because the identity underneath had shifted.

When your worth is no longer tied to being needed, your energy comes back.

Decisions get simple.

You say what you mean and move on.

That’s how you know the pattern is changing.

You replay conversations for a reason.

Not because you said something wrong.

Because your body doesn’t like tension.

A tone shifts.
A silence stretches.
Someone looks slightly disappointed.

And your nervous system reacts.

Not with logic.

With alertness.

You are used to keeping things stable.

So when something feels even slightly off,
your body wants to fix it.

That’s why you replay it.

Not to analyse.

To regulate.

If your nervous system panics at disapproval,
you will keep:

– over-explaining
– softening your boundaries
– choosing harmony over honesty

And that shapes how you lead.

Most women think they need better wording.

They don’t.

They need a nervous system that can stay steady
when someone else is uncomfortable.

When your nervous system stops panicking at disapproval,
your leadership changes.

That’s the work.

Your strength is keeping you exhausted.

And you’re calling it responsibility.

No one sees how tired you actually are.

You don’t break down.
You override.

You don’t ask for help.
You anticipate.

You don’t rest.
You collapse quietly later.

And here’s what quietly happens over time.

You get rewarded for this.

Praised for being reliable.
Chosen because you can handle it.
Given more because you never complain.

So your life slowly shapes itself around your capacity.

And your exhaustion becomes normal.

Your body never fully relaxes.

You call it responsibility.

But your nervous system has forgotten how to stand down.

Until your body feels safe disappointing someone
you will keep saying yes.

Strong women don’t need thicker skin.

They need embodied boundaries.

You’re very reliable.

And it’s costing you.

You answer quickly.
You anticipate needs.
You smooth tension before it grows.

You rarely let things drop.

That made you successful.

It also made you responsible for everything.

When your value is tied to being dependable,
rest feels uncomfortable.

When your worth is tied to being needed,
saying no feels risky.

So you keep showing up.

Even when you disagree.
Even when you’re tired.
Even when it costs you.

This isn’t ambition.

It’s over-functioning.

And over-functioning always has a ceiling.

At some point, it limits your leadership.
It limits your influence.
It limits how far you can grow.

You can’t expand if your nervous system collapses at disapproval.

You can’t hold clean boundaries
if your body panics at tension.

Insight won’t change that.

Regulation will.

When your body learns it doesn’t have to fix everything,
your leadership changes.

That’s the work I do.

You are not struggling with confidence.

You are protecting an identity.

I could speak on stage.
Lead conversations.
Make bold decisions.

And still, in certain moments, I would override myself.

Someone would look disappointed.
The energy would shift.
And I would soften.

From the outside, I looked confident.

Inside, my identity was tied to being the reliable one.

I believed being needed made me valuable.

So of course I hesitated when someone was uncomfortable.

My system was protecting that role.

The shift was not learning to speak up.

It was untangling my worth from being needed.

If you are powerful in most rooms but still collapse in specific moments, it is not a confidence gap.

It is an identity pattern.

Until that shifts, the behaviour will repeat.

That is the work.

You are not burned out. You are over-responsible.

A client came to me convinced she had a workload problem.

She did not.

She was stepping in before her team tried.
Managing the emotional tone of every meeting.
Fixing problems that were not hers to fix.

She called it leadership.

It was over-functioning.

We worked on one shift.

Separating her worth from being indispensable.

Within six weeks:

She reduced her workweek by five hours.
Delegated responsibilities she had been holding for years.
Stopped apologising for clear boundaries.

Her performance did not drop.

It improved.

Because she stopped carrying what was never hers.

That is what actually reduces burnout.

You’re self-aware.

Your body still reacts.

You know you over-function.
You know you smooth tension.
You know you replay conversations.

You’ve thought about it a lot.

And then you’re in a real conversation
and your chest tightens anyway.

Because insight doesn’t change a stress response.

Practice does.

The women inside don’t change their personality.

That’s when boundaries stop wobbling.
