I got a cold email asking me to set up OpenClaw for my community of 500+ agency owners.
 
"Free setup. No strings."
 
I said no. Let me tell you why.
 
OpenClaw is an AI tool that hooks into your email, CRM, calendar, and chat apps. It runs all day on your computer. It sends emails for you. Books calls. Does follow-ups. Sounds great, right?
 
The sales pitch: "Let AI run your ops so you can step back."
 
That's what I help agency owners do every day. That's my whole method. So why would I pass on this?
 
Because it's a security nightmare.
 
Cisco tested an OpenClaw plugin. It stole data and injected bad code — and the user had no idea.
 
Microsoft said don't run it on your normal computer. Use a separate machine with no real data on it.
 
Palo Alto Networks found that hackers can hide bad instructions inside normal messages. The AI stores them. Then runs them later.
 
Oasis Security found a bug where any website you visit could take over your AI agent. You don't click anything. You don't install anything. You just visit the page.
 
Over 820 plugins in the OpenClaw marketplace were found to be harmful. That number doubled in a few weeks.
 
One of OpenClaw's own team members said: "If you can't run a command line, this project is too dangerous for you."
 
China told all government offices to stop using it.
 
A university banned it after OpenClaw deleted emails on its own — no one asked it to.
 
Now picture this as an agency owner.
 
You plug this into your email. Your CRM. Your files. Your client data. One bad plugin and all of it is exposed. Client contracts. Billing info. Internal messages. Gone.
 
Most of us aren't using a locked-down separate computer for this. We're running it on the same laptop we use for everything.
 
I love AI. We use it a lot at Niche in Control. But there's a big gap between using AI inside systems you built and control — and giving a free AI tool full access to your whole business.
 
Real freedom doesn't come from handing your keys to an AI you can't fully trust.
 
It comes from clear systems. Clear roles. Real processes. People in the right seats. Then you add AI on top of that — not the other way around.
 
If you're looking at OpenClaw or tools like it, ask yourself:
 
→ Do I know what this tool can access? 
→ Is it on my main computer or a separate one? 
→ Did I check every plugin I installed? 
→ What happens to my client data if a plugin is bad?
 
The goal is to free yourself from your business. Not to gamble it.
 
Build the systems first. Add the tools after.
