Oversaw nationwide Schools Program that instructed and graduated truck drivers for CDL licensure that included five geographically dispersed school with up to 150 Team Members in an in an industry that is hard to retain employees and also saw a downturn in success in 2019.  The fun part of this job was to meet so many different people from all over the country and provide them with bonafide work.  Change management was a daily endeavor from regulation or laws changes, weather becoming a factor in training, keeping the staffing levels where they needed to be to meet the student numbers.    

The course trained and graduated 30K+ of students during my tenure which is quite simply a lot of licensed drivers which allowed for steady levels of talent for the operational fleets in an industry that struggles to find skilled, safe drivers. The CDL pass rate was over 80% aided by innovation I helped develop in an instructor onboarding process focused on Learn, Teach, Do to improve driver engagement and quality of instruction.  While doing this I delivered 84% student retention rate through learning technology, administrative efficiencies, collaborative relationships with stakeholders, and communicating with all levels and type of organizations and audiences.

Director of Corporate Training Schools

Clean Machine, LLC

Clean Machine is an ISO registered global precision component part manufacturer serving the medical, semiconductor, aerospace, defense and oil & gas industries.  In this role, which was my first 'civilian' job after retiring from the Army, I led 40 employees in ISO 13485 certified operation, responsible for staffing, onboarding, performance management, KPI’s, and training/learning.   I had no clue how to spell manufacturing nor did I have any clue what ISO stood for when I took the position.  But take the position I did, and it was great fun.  

I created a new hire process that included orientation, administration, training, safety and reduced onboarding by 80% from 5 to only 1 work day. I also improved safety and welfare of personnel and facility with less than 10 reportable accident/injury incidents in the two years I was there.  I also developed and codified a performance management and talent competency system which increased on-time review completion by 50% and improved employee productivity and talent development.  Although no one likes them, they are a fact of the manufacturing environment - audits.  We passed 4 quality managment system third party audits with no negative findings and developed and delivered a Risk Management Program that aided in passing ISO 13485 certification audit during my time with them.

Operations Manager

This was my most fulfilling assignment because I helped people and organizations get better.

I was the executive leader of an Human Resources Division with responsibility to provide area coverage to a full range of HR management services to the command and its operating units; ensured the development, direction, and administration of the overall HR management programs for the retention, motivation, development, and utilization of the Commands 11,000 people.

I specialized in employee assistance/engagement, teaching and training, inspections and investigations.  As the regional officer in charge, managed 3 geographically dispersed US teams across the Western United States maintaining on-time training and administrative requirements.  I was also able to build an effective organizational team to manage caseload of 300 employees for conflict resolution, improving morale and welfare of the unit.  In my time there, I wrote 10 executive summaries/reports with recommendations to local and federal leadership related to any issues found during an inspection/investigation, identifying responsibility for corrective action of those issues, and sharing innovative ideas and best practices.

	Consolidated multiple organizations into one university program to meet all training and administrative goals with a staff of 10 team members.
	Increased enrollment by 20% over a 12-month recruiting cycle through targeted recruitment and retention of quality students and employees.
	Improved accuracy from 80% to 93% in a personnel administration management control system, reducing financial liability and increasing personnel issue resolution.

If we truly care for people in an authentic and transparent way, they won't want to work or be anywhere else.  Connection and relationships matter, and are the lifeblood of any team.  

I view leadership as the path forward rather than complimentary to any business.  Leadership can make a huge difference to a company’s bottom line.  Lead people effectively, develop them accordingly, and simply care for/about them and watch an organization grow the culture.  If we do not place leadership at the forefront in what we do, then our people suffer (and so do profits).  People are the heartbeat of any business.  

I understand that hard metrics drive business decisions, but the more flexible and authentic leaders are, the better the outcome of success.  With leaders that know ‘how’ to lead rather than just manage, you have a recipe for success.  The technical aspect of any industry is the easy part because experts who work in it are well versed; the people aspect is the hard part.  Develop and grow great leaders that know instinctively how to handle the people aspect, you can move quicker on the ‘what’ you do.
