Your title is the quietest voice in your network.

As small business owners, our network rises with our character when no one is buying.

I watched a President's Club winner go from champagne to severance in one email. Big logo. Loud title. Thin network. Two months later, the only thing that was calling back was the echo.

I also watched a mid-level rep with no fancy title change companies and fill her calendar in two weeks. She hosted a small roundtable every month. She shared honest field notes. She introduced smart people to each other with consent. Her reputation traveled faster than her business card.

Here is the unpopular truth. A network built on job titles collapses the moment the title changes. A network built on value survives every reorg.

Your network is more than your role. It is proof of work outside your payroll. It is the room that remembers you after your badge changes color. It is an insurance policy for your pipeline and your identity.

If you want to grow your event business and your relationships require a calendar invite to exist, you are one action away from irrelevance. The market rewards connectors who create value without a pitch.

Practical ways to build that kind of network today:

Be known for a problem, not a position. Teach the market how to think about that problem.

Publish your field notes weekly. What you tried, what you learned, what failed. Make it useful and specific.

Create one valuable introduction each week with clear context and mutual permission. Track outcomes and follow up.

Keep a give list. Three people you can help right now with a brief teardown, a reference story, or a resource.

Ask for advice before you ask for access. Then report back with results. Close the loop.

Own a recurring ritual. Office hours, study group, book club, and customer panel. Show up even when attendance is small.

Send gratitude with receipts. Name the specific moment that helped you and how you applied it.

Stop collecting titles you would not invite to coffee if you lost your quota tomorrow. Start building friendships that still return your call when there is nothing to buy.

If your network knows your craft, your generosity, and your follow-through, you have leverage no downturn can erase.

•	Redesigned Picsolve RFP reply formats and face 2 face client presentations to better mirror our brand evolution and contemporary business expectations. The storytelling focused upon destination photo capture via remote cameras and ‘selfie’ stations featuring gamification and image capture for social media share.
•	Research, solicit, and contract multi-year agreements with top leisure & sport venues by providing imaging systems. 
•	RESULTS: created highest growth in Picsolve North America business development history representing over $2.2 million in annual retail contribution within 20 months. Recent partner contract awards: Kennedy Space Center, LEGOLAND Florida, and assorted regional attractions and zoos.
•      MILESTONE: In addition, my professional efforts landed LARGEST contract in Picsolve company history with Caesars Entertainment (5 year deal).

Hard Rock International

Champion of consumer marketing initiatives for 40+ year old hospitality and entertainment brand located in over 55 countries.  

Oversee strategic engagement of promotions, public relations, advertising, marketing research, digital media and creative execution for multiple market channels. Business development leader for tour & travel and meetings & incentives markets. Optimize global marketing funds via vendor partners and affinity partners to create brand touch points.

ADVANCING THE LEGENDARY BURGER

To promote our core menu item, we cooked up the Legendary Burger satellite video “tour,” where chefs from around the world showed how they localized an all-American favorite. A Facebook contest, meanwhile, encouraged consumers to visit a Hard Rock Cafe and post a selfie with their Legendary Burgers for a chance to win a trip to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino -- Punta Cana. The “BITE IT, SNAP IT, WIN IT” contest offered 31 trips in 31 days in observance of National Burger Month. It was showcased on 40+ TV segments in the U.S. and yielded 258 million impressions, a 36k spike in website visitors, $250k in incremental sales and a 5.2% monthly business increase, with 6.1% in Europe.

MAKING INDELIBLE MEMORIES

Keeping a 40-year-old brand relevant takes creativity, which we tapped into with the yearly Hard Rock Calling music festival in London. This essential expression of the brand features acts like Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Pearl Jam, Stevie Wonder, the Police and Paul McCartney. These weekends bolster relationships by creating memories that last a lifetime. They were also a great marketing opportunity. I came up with a campaign targeting military personnel called “Why My Spouse Rocks,” for instance, to raise our profile in the key military market. Readers of Military Spouse magazine submitted essays explaining why their better half was deserving of an exclusive backstage experience. The result? A segment increase of 150% in 5 years.

Corporate leader for all synergistic sales initiatives relative to brand portfolio.  Act as key industry liaison for Hard Rock brands relative to B2B and group travel industry efforts. Direct all business development efforts within various market channels, (tour & travel, groups sales, incentive, affinity) oversee creative execution relative to markets and lead team development and training.  Product portfolio includes hotels, casinos, concerts venues, and cafes. Results yielded 261% increase in market segment growth via retail and F&B sales over seven years.

RALLYING THE TROOPS

Hard Rock International hosts an annual conference to recognize top-performing cafes. A global undertaking, it has to be inclusive of each regional audience. We addressed this by acknowledging top local sales managers and collaborating on local marketing plans. The conference -- which includes breakout discussions, team-building exercises and a diverse speaker program -- always boosts morale and, in turn, market share and revenues.

Senior Director - Worldwide Sales

Disney Parks & Resorts

Directed the development, solicitation, contracting, implementation, and accounting of a portfolio of Disney products for off-site convention hotels and Orlando citywide conventions while leading sales team. Product portfolio includes catered special events, Disney Institute programming, convention golf sales, theme park tickets, floral, photography, audio/visual and entertainment production.

CREATING MAGICAL EXPERIENCES

I led a team of 16 to craft enduring, personalized experiences for groups of 50 to over 10,000 for powerhouse brands like McDonald’s, ESPN, Adidas, IBM and PricewaterhouseCoopers. We aggressively courted conventions, catering to established and prospective clients by providing a portfolio of tickets packages and access to world-famous attractions; special entertainment; red carpet events -- including games at ESPN Wide World of Sports; and fun, “behind the scenes” educational sessions based on Disney Institute programming. 

Producing custom Disney experiences meant recruiting adaptive leaders who could let their imaginations run wild through the possibilities AND provide a highly individualized brand of client relations. I encouraged them to communicate constantly with the team about the challenges they were facing and the tactics they were using to overcome them. Thanks to these strategy sessions, we built confidence in our capacity and credibility among our internal partners, becoming one of the most respected teams in the sales division.

We achieved a 12% increase in specific-area growth and I maintained an 85% staff retention rate. Several of my employees advanced to prestigious managerial positions at the company. More than a decade later, many of the protocols we developed remain in place.

National Sales Director

Universal Orlando Resort

Directed the development and implementation of cooperative marketing efforts for the attractions and resort hotels; managed $2.5 million department expense budget and 26 staff members.

• Championed segment business development and client relationships; negotiated event pricing and ticket sales contracts.
• Created strategic organizational plan to efficiently meet the demands of sales and operations for hotels and attractions as they relate to Group/Convention business.
• Liaised with all park departments regarding event planning, execution, and evaluation.
• Represented Universal Orlando in the community at both industry and non-industry related events and activities.

CHARGING OUT OF THE GATE

Toward the end of my tenure at Universal Orlando, Dodge partnered with us to introduce their redesigned vehicle fleet to various market segments with the goal of increasing overall sales in top North American sectors.

It was a tremendous opportunity, but at the time, the resort was still under construction and we were expending a huge amount of energy competing against Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. Nevertheless, we knew what we had to do and my team rose to the challenge creatively and operationally.

After much strategic planning, we relied on a combination of industry advertising, staged events, trade shows and good old-fashioned face-to-face relationship building. I helped secure sponsorship engagement and tackled onsite activations; we displayed vehicles throughout the Islands of Adventure theme park, coordinating these installations with test drives and dealer special event programs. Dodge met our campaign with family-oriented marketing programs geared at promoting the resort’s inaugural summer. The full-court press substantially raised consumer awareness of Universal Orlando, attracting visitors to this exciting new theme park and putting guests in rooms.

Vice President - Special Events & Conventions

As a global sales & marketing executive for Hard Rock International, I oversaw locally designed, multi-platform advertising campaigns in over 55 countries, including China, Russia and India. These initiatives generated record-setting sales increases, which I’m proud of -- but I’m equally appreciative of the countless relationships I cultivated during my frequent travel to diverse global markets serving as corporate liaison to our international operating partners. I attribute the 90% annual employee satisfaction rate I earned to my genuine desire to connect with people.

As a senior team leader, I know results are best achieved through collaboration among diverse talent and a shared organizational vision. I owe much of my success to my ability to rally the troops. I’ve done that through cheerleading, coaching, technology adoption and making employee development a cornerstone of growth strategies. When I was at Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts, my team was honored with the Best Sales Team Performance award.

Curiosity has driven me to learn as much as I can about the members of my team, and it’s fueled my exploration of the cutting edge in sales & marketing techniques and industry trends. This has served me well in projects supporting new product launches, e-commerce, CRM and franchise development. I spearheaded a dedicated sales & marketing portal and introduced productivity-tracking software that measurably improved the performance of 225 people.
