I lead a team of 12 to drive adoption of Amazon Business within AB's Fortune 1000 customer base.

If someone tells you that your resume isn't "ATS Compatible"....𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘁.

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁, 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗧𝗦:

An ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is a glorified filing cabinet for recruiters.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀:
- organizes job postings
- organizes candidate profiles
- holds candidate resumes
- allows a recruiter to search the database and manage the various stages of the hiring process

A company's job posting page is the front end (user facing side) of that ATS.

When you apply and attach your resume, you're building your candidate record and attaching your resume to to your record in the ATS.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘄, 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝘆 "𝗔𝗧𝗦 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲" 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗻𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰:

𝟭. 𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗘 𝗧𝗬𝗣𝗘
As long as you're submitting a supported file type (PDF, Word Document), your resume is going to go into the ATS. Probably safe to say you can't doodle a resume and submit it as a .JPG file, but I'm pretty sure you're not doing that anyway. So, you're good here.

𝟮. 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗧 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚
If you've formatted your resume with lots of columns and tables, it might not parse (that's mostly fancy talk for 'fill in the blanks for you on your application'). Typically, you'll be required to fill in the blanks to complete an application. So either your resume will do it for you...or you will do it. But either way, your info gets entered. So, you're good here, too.

𝟯. 𝗞𝗘𝗬𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗦.
People selling "ATS Compatible" resumes are all about the keyword gimmicks. They'll tell you the ATS is going to scan your resume for keywords. Truthfully, an ATS *can* do that, but as long as you're writing a resume that talks about things relevant to the job you want...you're probably going to hit on those keywords anyway. So, there really isn't some sort of magic that can happen here. Just talk about stuff relevant to the job and give examples of how you were good at those things. This isn't Harry Potter level stuff.

𝟰. 𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗘'𝗦 𝗡𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗘𝗟𝗦𝗘
That's right. There's the file type, the format, and the content and none of those things are going to cause the ATS to reject you or flag your resume as 'not compatible'.

These systems are built to take information from random people and make a recruiter's life easy...they aren't meant to be Fort Knox with a secret code to be cracked.

Which means..............people telling you that ATS Compatibility is your problem....are kinda sorta totally absolutely knowingly selling you a heaping pile of garbage advice.

And I think that's a rude thing to do to jobseekers 🧡

Amazon Web Services (AWS)

Developed learning experiences and improved existing training materials and processes for 39K+ Global Sales executives.

• Created a comprehensive Resource Guide, featuring deep dives, training materials, cheat sheets, and industry-specific information to improve technical knowledge for AWS’s Field Team 

• Developed three internal websites utilizing Wisdom, AWS's internal knowledge management system, to establish a centralized hub for training and manager resources. This initiative resolved various challenges, including the lack of a central repository, outdated templates scattered across multiple locations, communication gaps resulting in missed training opportunities, and managers seeking specific information

• Led 8 learner roundtable discussions to gather verbal feedback, addressing barriers to collecting written feedback. Used feedback to improve training and develop a comprehensive resource guide for over 39K users

• Reviewed 16K+ pieces of learner feedback, categorized on sentiment and feedback type; collaborated with the BI team and used data to  train AI/Natural Language Processing (NLP) to automate review of feedback responses; Used feedback to improve QoQ Customer Satisfaction (CSAT) from 4.36 to 4.7 on a 5 point scale

• Conducted four group user acceptance testing (UAT) sessions for each training series to ensure error-free training prior to launch; Collected feedback, collaborated with designers for necessary updates, reviewed the content, loaded to the Learning Management System (LMS), and performed additional testing, reducing post-launch revisions from 12 to 0 quarter over quarter (QoQ)

• Edited copy for closed captioning and built transcripts for over 7 course modules to improve learning accessibility

• Used Cornerstone Knet (LMS) and Audacity (voiceover) to develop internal commercials and trainings

• Developed storyboards to support trainings built in Storyline

Learning Experience Designer

Renaissance Learning

Created in-person and virtual synchronous training materials for Illuminate’s MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) Educational Technology SaaS product. Used Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Canva to develop trainings for over 2,000 “Portfolio” (SMB), Enterprise, and Strategic K-12 school district clients ranging from $20k to $750k+.   

•Leveraged surveys, inbound customer support inquiry data sets, and voice of customer feedback to understand customer product interaction, conduct needs analysis, and shape course content, creation, and implementation resulting in 99% customer satisfaction across 820 customers within 1 year

• Managed TalentLMS and Captivate Prime Learning Management Systems to scope, sequence, and design content for over 27 courses and 280+ modules, receiving an average course experience rating of 8 out of 10 from over 946 customers

•Selected as the Corporate Presenter for Illuminate; Designed content and presented live to nationwide audiences of up to 2K participants, with 200+ participants providing a 100% satisfaction rating

•Used Jira to manage e-learning production schedules and collaborated with internal partner teams (audio artists, video artists) to produce final e-learning products

• Designed and developed course content in a variety of formats and modalities including: assessments, templates, graphics, infographics, videos, gifs, job aids, and help articles

• Curated a dashboard of key metrics including ‘overall satisfaction with the content,’ ‘finding value in the training materials/content after the learning session’ and ‘training materials/content are designed in a manner that is easy to follow and understand’ to understand month over month (MoM) customer learning and engagement trends and inform new and continued content development

Senior Learning Experience Designer

Created and delivered in-person training for 1.2K customers within Illuminate “Portfolio” (SMB) customer population and created technical training manuals to support individual features within Illuminate’s eduCLIMBER SaaS product. I was the 7th employee at eduCLIMBER, which was acquired by Illuminate Education in 2017. During my time in this role, I held a broad range of responsibilities to support early stage startup success.

• Used Google Slides and Affinity Designer to create course content and materials for a paid, $500 per participant training for key customer stakeholders and decision makers (superintendents, district leaders) generating over $7500 per month in training revenue

• Co-owned Learning Management System (LMS) migration from TalentLMS to Captivate Prime, successfully completing an on-time migration of 19 courses and over 154 modules

• Managed a collaborative virtual client community with over 300 community members through Google+ and engaged daily to position eduCLIMBER as an Educational Technology thought leader

• Held monthly webinars for up to 25 customers to provide interactive ‘how to’ training and discussions on the eduCLIMBER product

Instructional Designer

School District Of Baraboo

Served as an elementary and middle school special educator as well as a high school educator. 

• Leveraged student performance data to identify students at-risk of not graduating; Created curriculum and content for synchronous learning for an academic seminar course to provide additional support and instruction to students, increasing the number of graduation-eligible participants from 0% to 80% within the academic year

• Delivered live presentations on educational best practices, non-verbal communication, and supporting students with extreme behavior to audiences of 50 participants at state, national, and international education conferences

• Teamed with educators and administrators across the school district as a Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) coach; Used Google Forms, eduCLIMBER, SWIS, and Microsoft Excel to collect and visualize school and student data and deliver recommendations for school and student improvement resulting in over 80% of students responding to core instruction without additional supports or interventions

• One of 100 teachers awarded Wisconsin’s state-wide Herb Kohl award, recognizing the contributions of Wisconsin classroom teachers; Nominated by district Superintendent and selected as one of 15 educators  to receive the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship, providing the opportunity for a $50k MBA scholarship to Wisconsin and Indiana’s most promising educators
