Cené con Adam Cheyer, cofundador de Siri.

Este fue mi mayor aprendizaje:

Construir una startup no va de tener más gente, más dinero o oficinas más grandes.

Va de hacer más con menos.

Le pregunté a Adam Cheyer qué había aprendido después de crear varias empresas y vender la suya al mismisimo Steve Jobs (Apple)

Me dijo que no hay fórmula secreta.

Pero sí algunos principios que se repiten.

1. Equipos pequeños hacen cosas grandes.
Para Adam, el tamaño ideal de un equipo es entre 10 y 20 personas.
Con un equipo pequeño puedes competir contra gigantes multinacionales.
Cuando el equipo crece demasiado, la velocidad y la productividad suelen empezar a caer.

2. Levanta dinero donde estés primero.
Si puedes levantar capital en tu propio país, hazlo.
Si tu mercado local no responde, cambia de mercado.
Ve donde esté el capital.

3. Crea rituales de equipo.
Algo que "una" a la gente: ping-pong, billar, arcade…
Y tradiciones semanales: "Magic Friday", “Pizza Tuesday”, “Hack Night” lo que sea. 
Las buenas startups tienen que actuar como tribu. 

4. Intensidad total.
El equipo de Siri trabajaba noches, fines de semana… todo.
Barbacoas que acababan siendo sesiones de trabajo.

5. Cuidado con inflar la valoración.
Muchos fundadores levantan demasiado dinero demasiado pronto.
Mejor, empieza realista y crece poco a poco.
Un down round puede matar la empresa.

6. Liderazgo > gestión.
La gente no sigue a jefes.
Sigue a líderes y misiones en las que cree.

Hemos montado una startup desde un bar de Madrid.
En Estados Unidos, las startups nacen en garajes.
Aquí en España, nacen en bares.
Con una tapa y una cerveza.

Apple, HP & Google empezarón en un garaje... roompass empezó en un bar. 

Pero que no se nos olvide, "fellow founders":

Estados Unidos también tiene ADN español.

El USD ($) no se inventó.
Se construyó sobre el peso español,
la moneda (con el mismo símbolo) más poderosa de su época.

Silicon Valley, la meca del emprendimiento…
fue territorio español hasta 1821.

San Francisco. San Diego. Los Ángeles. Santa Fé.
Estados Unidos también habla español.

Antes de startups y venture capital,
California formaba parte de España.

No lo digo yo:

“The American history is written in Spanish.”
- Thomas Jefferson (3er presidente de Estados Unidos)

Por eso, cuando hace unos meses mi gestor me dijo:

“Vete de España si quieres avanzar.”

Lo vi claro.

Aunque aquí se lleve mal el fracaso,
falte financiación
tengamos a Hacienda respirándonos en la nuca, 
y los emprendedores son vistos como unos "criminales"

Emprender no trata de que sea FACIL.
Se trata de demostrar que aquí también se puede.

Que desde un bar en Madrid se pueden construir empresas globales.
Por eso estamos construyendo roompass.
Para demostrar que desde aquí también se puede.

Esto va por los que decidieron no irse.

Y por los que siguen quedándose y construyendo
desde una servilleta de bar,
un pincho de tortilla y un café.

36 años. Exactamente los mismos.
En 1954 sonaba Frank Sinatra.
En 1990 sonaban Nirvana, Green Day o The Offspring.

Para alguien en 1990, Sinatra era música de otra era.

Clásico. Antiguo. De padres.

Para un chaval en 2026, Nirvana está exactamente en ese mismo lugar mental.

Lo que tú sientes moderno… para ellos es “vintage”

En el cine pasa igual.

En 1955 se estrenaba Rebelde sin causa.
En 1991 llegaba Terminator 2.

Para alguien en 1990, las películas de los 50 eran otro mundo.

Ahora viene lo incómodo:

Para un chaval en 2026, Terminator 2 está tan lejos como Rebelde sin causa lo estaba para alguien en 1990.

Misma distancia.


Y si hablamos de tecnología, el contraste es todavía más brutal.

En los 50, lo normal era escuchar música en vinilo.
En los 90 llevábamos un Sony Walkman o un Discman en la mochila.

Hoy llevas todo el catálogo musical de la historia en el bolsillo, en tu smartphone.

Para un chaval de 2026, el Walkman está tan lejos como el tocadiscos de los 50 lo estaba para nosotros en los 90.

Y aún así seguimos diciendo:

“Los 90 fueron hace nada.”

Pero no.

Fueron hace lo mismo que para nosotros eran los años 50.

da un poco de vértigo.

Porque el tiempo no avisa.
Un día eres “la nueva generación” y al siguiente eres el nostálgico.

Así que quizá no va de sentirse mayor.

Va de preguntarte qué estás haciendo hoy… para que dentro de 36 años alguien todavía lo recuerde.
