I used to hate networking events.

The small talk. The business card exchange. The follow-up emails that go nowhere.

Then I went to one event that changed everything.

It was not the event itself.
→ It was what happened AFTER.

I met a family office principal at a conference in London.

Before the event:
I connect with attendees on LinkedIn
I engage with their content
I make myself visible BEFORE we meet

At the event:
I have real conversations (not pitches)
I learn about their challenges
I find ways to add value

After the event:
I do NOT send follow-up emails
I create content that speaks to what we discussed
I let them see my expertise in action

→ That is how you turn handshakes into clients.

I worked with a wealth manager who was spending 30,000 per year on conferences.

Getting maybe 2 clients annually.

We shifted strategy:
Fewer events. More LinkedIn follow-up.

Same year:
Attended 3 conferences (vs 12 the year before)

I remember being at uni, scrolling LinkedIn, wondering if people like me could actually *make it*. Wondering if I needed a different background and a different network to build something real.

I didn't have a blueprint. I had doubt, a laptop, and an uncomfortable amount of trial and error.

So when students invite me to share what I've learned, the systems that work, the "shortcuts" I wish I'd known, the unglamorous truth about building authority from scratch... I show up.

Because someone believing in you before you believe in yourself changes everything.

When you detach your identity from the output, performance changes.

Most professionals tie self-worth to results:

• If the post performs → I’m good.
• If the deal closes → I’m competent.
• If it fails → I’m not.

That attachment is what slows growth.

Because when identity is fused with outcome, failure feels personal.
And when failure feels personal, you avoid risk.

But when you separate the two, something powerful happens:

Failure becomes data.
Rejection becomes feedback.
Silence becomes signal.

Now you’re not reacting emotionally.
You’re iterating strategically.

This is especially true when building a personal brand or business in public.

If you treat every post, launch, pitch or talk as a verdict on who you are, you’ll hesitate.

If you treat it as an experiment, you’ll scale.

The most resilient builders aren’t the most confident.
They’re the most detached from short-term validation.

Output is information.
Identity is internal.

Learn. Adjust. Move.

That’s how you become unstoppable.

The biggest risk of social media isn't posting the wrong thing.

It's consuming the wrong things.

You open LinkedIn "just to check."

15 minutes later:
- 3 engagement-bait posts read
- 2 irrelevant videos watched  
- 47 things scrolled past you'll never remember

Zero inspiration.
Zero ideas.
Just time gone.

Then you wonder why your content feels stale.

The truth is "doom scrolling" isn't inherently bad.

It's only destructive when your feed is full of noise.

If you curate correctly: 

Scrolling = research.
Consumption = collection.
Distraction = strategic input.

This women’s day, let me start with everything I’m not.

I’m not the first woman in my family who wanted more professionally. 

My mother did too.

But no one supported her.

Her parents told her she didn’t need to do it. It wasn’t for her. It wasn’t the right time. 

So she didn’t get to.

She had my brother at 23.

My age. Right now.

Then me, at 25.

And she took everything she never got, and quietly put it into us.

She never stopped me.

Never limited me.

Never once said “that’s not for you.”

When I doubted myself, she was the one who said I was strong.

And I’d think… what do you mean, strong?

You’re the one who built it in me.

You raised me on resilience you never got credit for.

You gave me a soul that doesn’t break easily.

And you have no idea how much of what I am is just you, in a different era, with different chances.

So today isn’t about me.

It’s about her.

And every woman like her. The ones who didn’t get their turn, but made sure someone else did.

P.S. She found her path anyway.

When I was a pre-teen, she started a kids’ studio, songs, dance, all of it. But what she actually built was a community. The mothers who came to drop off their kids ended up staying. That studio became their third space. She just has that effect on people.

Later she found a whole new love… Yorkies. She didn’t just fall for them, she went all in. Trained professionally. Travels worldwide for shows. Her dogs are champions. Obviously!

M&A is fast-paced. But in between deals, how are you building your reputation for the next one?

On LinkedIn, it’s simple:

1️⃣ Post monthly about common pain points in the M&A process. For example: “Here’s why post-merger integration often fails, and how to fix it.”

2️⃣ Engage with industry leaders... comment on their insights, add your perspective, and stay visible !!

3️⃣ Update your profile with measurable results. Numbers matter. E.g., “Led acquisition strategies delivering 20% revenue growth across 3 deals.” (If it’s an overall impact).

re point 3️⃣, keep the profile info concise and direct, but, if you want to incorporate measurable results into your content, it needs to be factually accurate based on the actual results of your work. 

Here’s how to assess and refine it: 

“Led acquisition strategies” → Did you personally lead the strategy, or were you part of a team executing it? 

(If it was a leadership role, this is accurate. If you contributed but didn’t lead, you may want to say “Developed and executed acquisition strategies.”)

“Delivering 20% revenue growth” → Are you confident that the deals you worked on directly resulted in a measurable 20% revenue increase? 

(If this is an average, that’s fine. If it’s one standout deal, you might want to specify: “One deal delivered 20% revenue growth, with others achieving similar success.”)

“Across 3 deals” → If you can attribute revenue growth to three specific deals, this works.

(If the impact was on different aspects (e.g., cost synergies, EBITDA growth), then consider specifying.)

M&A isn’t just about closing deals. 

It’s about staying top-of-mind so YOU are the go-to choice when the next opportunity arises.
