I put together a quick highlight reel from last week's KubeCon that’s a little different from the usual hallway track content. This one captures the moments inside the Community Hub with Deep Roots and the Merge Forward gatherings.

In between keynotes and tech sessions, people found their way to a corner of the conference where the focus was not on tools or timelines, but on belonging.

Black, Indigenous, and People of Color sharing stories.

Allies listening, learning, showing up with intention.

Newcomers saying, “I did not even know this space existed, but I am glad I found it.”

Deep Roots and Merge Forward gatherings are where all of those threads meet. You could feel it in the room. Folks exhaling a little. Sharing what they quietly master (mine...shower karaoke). Laughing about childhood snacks (Swedish fish). Building strong cases for how and why tech shaped their place in the cloud native world (storytelling). Realizing they were never the only ones navigating this industry from their unique angle.

Huge thanks to Catherine Paganini and William Rizzo and to all Merge Forward communities (Death and Hard of Hearing, Neurodiversity, Women in Cloud Native, Blind and Visually Impaired, Stuttering and Speech Diversity, and Friends of Dorothee) for the work they put in behind the scenes to keep this movement going and to fight for the physical space at Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) KubeCon where these conversations can happen. None of this is accidental.
