The LinkedIn follower race: who came out on top in 2025?

10 lessons from the top growers and what it says about LinkedIn right now:

1. The Pichai Anomaly 

Sundar Pichai went from 197K to 3.3M (1,597% growth), adding 3.1M followers. For context, Satya Nadella added 638K from 11M. Either Google's PR team executed a masterclass or there's a platform-level boost at play.

2. India Dominates 🇮🇳

8 of the top 20 are Indian: Shradha Khapra, Narendra Modi, Aman Gupta, Ritesh Agarwal, Anupam Mittal, Raj Shamani, Nikhil Kamath, Shantanu Naidu. The Shark Tank India effect is real. LinkedIn's growth engine runs through India.

3. AI Founders Are Having a Moment 

Aravind Srinivas (Perplexity) grew 362%, Andrew Ng added 466K. Being "the face of" an AI company is now a growth strategy in itself.

4. Legacy Giants Grow Slow 

Bill Gates added 2.8M but that's only 8% on a 37M base. Satya Nadella: 6%. Simon Sinek: 5%. The algorithm doesn't favor incumbents proportionally.

5. Politicians With Narratives Surge 

Barack Obama (+1.5M, 50%), Mark Carney (+687K, 513%), Modi (+655K, 14%). Politicians who become protagonists in ongoing stories get treated like creators.

6. Content Creators Compete With CEOs 

Mel Robbins (+691K, 85%) and Raj Shamani (+453K, 93%) sit alongside billionaires. Consistent content can compete with institutional fame.

7. The Ratan Tata Effect 

Shantanu Naidu added 398K through proximity to Ratan Tata plus authentic storytelling. Borrowed credibility + genuine voice = algorithm gold.

8. Geographic Concentration 

USA, India, UAE, Brazil. No Europeans except Carney. No Chinese creators. LinkedIn's top influencer growth is concentrated in a few markets.

9. The "Why Now" Factor 

Pichai (AI narrative), Carney (political run), Srinivas (Perplexity's rise), Obama (election). Growth at this level requires being relevant to what the world is paying attention to now.

10. The Gender Gap 

Only 2 women in top 20: Shradha Khapra (#4) and Mel Robbins (#5). Men captured 90% of growth. Both women are content-first creators, not institutional figures. The leaderboard reflects existing power structures.

I spoke at the same time as MrBeast in Dubai. Not exactly ideal timing. But turns out when you're solving a real business problem, people show up even when there's a YouTube legend in the next room.

My talk was about the trust crisis in influencer marketing. Fake followers, bot engagement, AI content farms. The solution isn't better vetting, it's better data. I'll share the full keynote soon.

There's DEFINITELY something happening in the Gulf. We've been feeling it for a while with our rankings going viral there (fun fact: last year, Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 was our biggest market for an entire month thanks to Mohanad Alaswad).

The creator economy just fits with what's going on in the region. Super young population that lives online. Massive investment in digital infrastructure. Governments pushing hard to diversify away from oil into media and entertainment. People want global content but also have strong local identity. And there's actual money to support creators through brand deals and commerce.

This event was so incredible. The production value, the speakers, the energy in the room. You could feel that something real is being built here. The Gulf isn't following anyone else's playbook for the creator economy, they're writing their own.

Pretty sure this is the team's subtle way of saying "Jeremy, you've hired too many Americans."

When your headcount goes from 90% French to 80% "wait, where are you based again?", the remaining French employees start marking their territory. 

Next week they're probably installing a croissant vending machine and making everyone take a mandatory lunch break 😁

You're probably doing better than you think on LinkedIn.

We analyzed all LinkedIn creators in 2025 to answer one question: what does "good growth" actually look like?

The answer will probably surprise you.

📊 Top 1%: +49K followers / 242%+ growth 
📊 Top 10%: +6.7K followers / 52%+ growth 
📊 Top 25%: +2.1K followers / 24%+ growth 
📊 Top 50%: +479 followers / 9.3%+ growth

Let that sink in.

👉 If you gained 500 followers this year, you're above average.
👉 If you grew 25%, you're in the top quarter.
👉 If you hit 52% growth, you're outperforming 90% of creators.

Most people overestimate what "normal" looks like on LinkedIn because they're comparing themselves to outliers. The algorithm shows you the 1% every day. That's not the benchmark.

The median creator grew 9.3%. Not 50%. Not 100%. Nine percent.

So if you doubled your following this year, you're not "doing okay." You're in elite territory.

Stop comparing yourself to people with 500K followers posting about their morning routines. Compare yourself to the actual distribution.

Grow 10% and you beat half the platform.

How I imagine Top Voices in my comments who survived the Top-pocalypse

RIP to the fallen badges. You were loved (by your owners, mostly).

To those still standing: enjoy your moment of glory. Winter is coming. Again.

PS: I have STRONG insider evidence this purge was officially targeting engagement pods and growth hacks. Whether that's actually true remains to be seen. I know at least a few Top Voices survivors who are definitely gaming the system. The algorithm works in mysterious ways, I guess.

LinkedIn says we have 181 employees. We have 10.

Looking bigger creates more issues than you think:

- Sales vultures assume we're flush with VC cash. 
- Investors spam us daily thinking we're x10 bigger in revenue. 
- Recruiters pitch "scaling solutions" we don't need. 
- Candidates expect corporate perks and 5-round interviews. 
- Partners want enterprise contracts with legal teams we don't have. 
- Conference organizers charge us "big company" sponsorship rates.  
- Big tech starts paying attention when we'd rather fly under the radar.

The good part: competitors think we're massive. They're building sales teams while we are 100% inbound. They see 181 and spiral. We see 10 and ship faster than they ever will.

The inflated number comes from creators putting Favikon on their resumes. Ambassadors, partners, people who've worked with us add it to their profiles. That part is actually rewarding. It means we've built something people want to be associated with.

But LinkedIn doesn't verify who's actually an employee. The algorithm just counts heads and calls it growth.

You can look big or you can move fast. We chose the one that actually matters.

I spent hours analyzing the new 2026 Top Voices across 8 countries to understand what actually gets you that badge.

Here's what I learned:

1. The magic trio is AI + sustainability + future of work

Every single regional list explicitly highlights these three topics. This isn't coincidence. It's LinkedIn's editorial priority. If your content doesn't touch at least one of these, you're probably invisible to the program.

2. Follower count barely matters

I found Top Voices with 3,000 followers sitting next to people with 380,000. What matters more: how specific your expertise is and whether you post consistently.

3. Data beats opinions every time

The featured posts are things like "The $600B opportunity of Predictive AI" and "Breakdown of the hidden costs of deploying AI." Nobody got recognized for "5 tips to be a better leader."

4. Executives who share behind-the-scenes content win

The CEO of Deutsche Bahn got called out for "giving behind-the-scenes insights and explaining the background of her decisions." Having a title isn't enough. You need to pull back the curtain.

5. LinkedIn newsletters are a cheat code

Multiple Top Voices were praised specifically for their newsletters. If you're not using this feature, you're leaving recognition on the table.

6. You need a transformation story

Almost every featured person is positioned as leading some kind of change. Static expertise doesn't cut it. You need to be actively shaping something.

7. Local relevance still matters

German Top Voices talk about energy transformation. Singapore Top Voices discuss Southeast Asian tech. Brazilian Top Voices cover local infrastructure. Global topics, local angles.

8. Making complex things simple gets rewarded

One Italian physicist was praised for "making physics accessible." A US marketer was called out for "storytelling that makes complex ideas click instantly."

9. Consistency trumps virality

LinkedIn explicitly says these voices "consistently share meaningful insights." Showing up every week beats going viral once a quarter.

10. Credentials still open doors

CEOs, Chief Economists, VPs, Co-Founders. Smaller creators do get in, but they usually have institutional backing or founder credentials.

My take: I'm genuinely impressed.

The old Top Voice program felt like a black box. Nobody knew how people got selected.

This version is different. The roster is stacked with creativity and diversity. I followed dozens of people I'd never heard of, from a Singapore AI risk analyst 
with 3,000 followers to Italian physicists making science accessible.

The criteria are clearer: pick a relevant topic, share data-backed insights, post consistently. You can actually reverse-engineer what works.

Yes, it does favor executives. But someone with 3,000 followers making the list alongside a Netflix co-founder shows quality still matters.

If LinkedIn keeps this trend up:
