I achieved the 4-hour work week by Tim Ferris before there was a 4-hour work week by Tim Ferris.

I set out to achieve it in 2003, despite everyone telling me it could not be done. 

And there I was, a 23-year-old enjoying the entrepreneurial genes I had inherited from my serial entrepreneur father, building out what I'd later learn was a CPaaS ("communication platform as a service").

For most entrepreneurs, the first 9 businesses fail and the 10th succeeds. But for me, it was that first one which succeeded (and ran strong for 21 years)!

During Ramadan, even good intentions can lead to prison if you break the law.

As we approach the holy month of Ramadan I want to remind everyone of something very important. Calling for donations or collecting money without an official license is considered a cyber crime in the UAE

this includes social media posts WhatsApp messages, online fundraising links, even if your intention is charity, the law is clear: (unlicensed fundraising is punishable) by prison and the fine of at least 200,000

 If you want to donate, always use a licenseed and approved charity

Good intentions do not protect you from legal consequences!

Some employees believe they gain leverage over their employer if they possess confidential company data. What many fail to understand is that leaking, using, copying, deleting, or threatening to misuse such information is not a negotiation tactic, it is a serious criminal offense.

Any information obtained during employment whether financial data, trade secrets, client records, commercial strategies, or internal know-how is legally protected. Attempting to use this information for personal gain, to pressure an employer into offering a higher exit package, or to create leverage during resignation or termination may amount to extortion and related cyber or commercial crimes.

In the UAE, these acts can lead to severe consequences, including imprisonment that may reach several years and significant financial penalties.

The advice is clear:
	•	If you are an employee facing a dispute with your employer, address it through legal channels or the courts not through misuse of confidential information.
	•	If you are an employer and an employee attempts to negotiate using leaked or sensitive data, do not cooperate, do not pay, and take immediate steps to protect the business and report the matter through proper legal avenues.

Confidential information is not a bargaining tool. Treating it as such can quickly turn an employment dispute into a criminal case.

It may seem harmless — even funny — to take a photo or a voice note from a friend and run it through an AI tool to a funny photo or video as a joke. But situations like this can quickly escalate if the person involved feels uncomfortable, offended, or harmed in any way.

In the UAE, cybercrime laws are very clear and very strict when it comes to using another person’s personal data without their consent. This includes photos, videos, voice notes, or any content processed, edited, or published using AI or any digital tool.

Misusing personal data can expose you to serious legal consequences, including criminal charges, imprisonment, and significant financial penalties.

Always remember: copying, processing, or publishing content that involves other people without their clear permission is risky and potentially unlawful.

When in doubt, don’t proceed.
And if you’re unsure about the legal implications, seek proper legal advice before taking any step.

Starting 2nd of March 2026, the new age of majority applies to DIFC Wills.

Following recent UAE legislative amendments, the age of majority has been reduced from 21 to 18 years. As a result, within the scope of DIFC Courts Wills the minimum age for Testators, Executors, Guardians, Witnesses, and even translators is now 18 years old. 

This will affect ALL previously registered Wills as well as the new ones. Meaning that the guardianship provisions will now apply only for minors under the age of 18. 

Everyone should review their Wills and understand how the new change would affect them. You may now elect to change any of the personnel in your existing Will to someone below the age of 21 and above 18 years old. 

A formal amendment to the DIFC Wills and Probate Registry Rules is expected to follow but for now, DIFC Courts confirmed the change practically!
