Building Enablement Systems for Scalable Revenue Growth 📈 | Strategy, Systems Thinking, and Behavioural Design | Founder, Enablement Edge Network 🌐

A month ago, I went through some of the hardest days of my life.

At the end of a normal working day, I was hit by sudden vertigo.

Within hours, it spiralled into something severe.

For three days, I couldn’t get out of bed. Barely able to eat and use the bathroom because any movement triggered violent vomiting.

The week after wasn’t much better. 

Luckily, one of my best friends was with me and helped me through it.

Try to imagine this: you stare at the room, and everything spins – fast, relentlessly, for hours. 

That’s when I understood what it really means to be powerless and incapacitated.

As someone who likes control, this was the ultimate emotional test.

Those days "broke" me.
Physically.
Psychologically.
In a way nothing else ever had.

And I’ll be honest – in the first days, fear crept in intensely. 

The kind of fear where you start wondering:

What if this doesn’t pass?
What if things don’t go back to normal?
What if this is it?

Being stuck in bed with nothing to do gives you time.
Too much time, maybe.

And that’s why I’m writing this.

Because when health is suddenly at stake, clarity arrives fast.

I wasn’t thinking about achievements, accolades, LI followers, or career. 

None of that mattered.

What mattered were different questions:

Was I moving in a direction that truly fulfilled me?
Was I experiencing the process – or just moving from one thing to the next?
Was I nurturing the relationships that actually matter?
Was I present enough with my parents and friends?
Was I acting with integrity and authenticity? 

I realised – again, but much deeper – that life is just a sequence of moments.

And rushing through them has no inherent purpose.

What are we rushing for, exactly?
Time is moving anyway.
Relentlessly.
Towards the only certainty we all share. 

This doesn’t mean giving up ambition; it means finding a better pace and rhythm – one that allows us to feel more grounded, nurtured, and aligned. 

Also, when you realise how quickly things can change, you also realise there isn’t always going to be a “later”.

Some changes can’t be postponed indefinitely.
Some conversations can’t wait.
Some truths become heavier the longer we avoid them.

One other thing.

After the worst had passed, the first food I ate was a rice cake, a carrot, and some celery.

For the first time, I truly tasted the rice in the cake. 
I noticed how fresh the carrot was.
How the celery hydrated every corner of my mouth.

I was just... there.

I’ve now almost fully recovered.

In the end, it seems this was caused by a virus that inflamed one of the nerves responsible for balance. 

This experience was brutal, but also illuminating.

While I was in bed, unable to do anything, all I wanted was to feel normal again.

I yearned to walk, eat, and sit upright without the room spinning.

The smallest things suddenly felt like everything.

Sometimes it takes losing the ordinary to understand its weight.

Don’t forget to cherish it, friends.

In enablement interviews, knowing what to do helps.

Knowing what not to do helps even more.

Many capable candidates fail interviews because of small, repeatable mistakes they are unaware of that quietly weaken the way they come across.

Over the past few months, I spoke with and surveyed 25 enablement leaders and practitioners who have collectively sat on hundreds of interview panels (I’ll tag them in the comments).

Different companies.
Different roles.
Different seniority levels.

The patterns were remarkably consistent.

That’s what led me to document the 13 most common sales enablement interview mistakes as a way to make interviews clearer from both sides of the table.

What surprised me most?

These mistakes are rarely about enablement knowledge.

They’re about judgement under pressure.

They show up when candidates:

• default to abstract language instead of concrete experience,
• talk fluently but don’t ask meaningful questions
• describe activity without explaining impact
• rely on rehearsed frameworks instead of listening
• misread the role, the environment, or the dynamics in the room

In other words, the issue is almost never: “I don’t understand enablement.”

Viele AEs glauben, dass Dauerstress & Quota-Druck einfach „Teil des Jobs“ sind. Die Software-Sales-Bubble feiert Hustle & Überstunden – als wäre Stress ein Zeichen von Stärke.

Doch genau das zerstört die langfristige Performance. 

Als Sales Coach habe ich über 200 Software Vertriebler begleitet – und überall dasselbe Muster gesehen: Talentierte AEs, die nicht an ihren Skills scheitern, sondern daran, dass ihr Kopf zu laut ist. Nervosität in Sales Calls, Overthinking am Abend, Druck im Forecast, schlaflose Nächte. Das kostet Deals und Lebensqualität – und führt viele direkt Richtung Burnout.

Irgendwann wurde mir klar:

Weltklasse Software AEs sind NICHT die mit hervorragenden Sales-Techniken. Sondern die, die innerlich ruhig bleiben, selbst wenn alles brennt.

Und die Wissenschaft hat bestätigt: Vertriebler, die Stress im Griff haben und ihre Gelassenheit unter Druck trainieren,  performen im Schnitt 30% besser.

Ich liebe es, an Vertriebler zu verkaufen, ehrlich 😂

Der Dude hat entweder so eine Langeweile,

dass seine Kreativität durch meine Mail getriggert wurde,

oder er hat sich einfach gefreut, mal auf der anderen Seite zu sein

und wollte damit etwas Spaß haben.

(Ich versuche, positive Interpretationen zu finden. Kann sein, dass er einfach ein lustiger Arsch ist, aber die Möglichkeit will ich gar nicht betrachten 😉)

In beiden Fällen: Die Mail hat mich hart zum Lachen gebracht 🤣

Und sie war das Highlight meines Freitagabends.

Meine Antwort war eine Einladung für weiteres Scheiße-Labern,

leider hat es nicht geklappt!!

Allerdings, je mehr ich mit dem Thema

Resilienz und Peak Performance an den Markt gehe,

desto mehr erkenne ich: Nicht jeder hat die Gene,

um das meiste Potenzial aus sich selbst herausholen zu wollen.

Und das ist in Ordnung; an sich selbst zu arbeiten, ist kein Muss.

Mehr Energie, Fokus und Freude zu haben, ist kein Muss.

Konstant auf einem hohen Level zu performen, auch kein Muss.

Es ist das perfekte Beispiel dafür,

wie die meisten Vertriebler ihr Leben leben.

Diese geilen Wraps bestehen aus Brot, Pommes, Tzatziki, Tomaten, Zwiebeln und einem Hähnchenspieß.

Eine Mischung aus gesunden und ungesunden Zutaten.

Die meisten Vertriebler haben ähnliche Verhältnisse:

Sie machen regelmäßig Sport, essen gesund, stehen früh auf,

aber haben kein Zeitmanagement, nehmen keine Breaks,

regulieren ihre Energie nicht und trinken 5 Kaffees jeden Tag.

Das Resultat? Viel Energie am Morgen,

aber keine mehr gegen 14 Uhr.

Nach dem Feierabend abschalten? Vergiss es.

Man ist physisch bei der Familie, aber seelisch in der Pipeline.

Genau dieselbe Erfahrung hatte ich mit den Souvlakis:

Beim Essen habe ich mich sehr gut gefühlt, aber danach war ich so müde.

(Ich habe natürlich nicht alle drei gegessen 😂)

Wer konstant auf einem hohen Energielevel bleiben will,

muss auf einiges achten. Es ist nicht einfach am Anfang,

weil man Gewohnheiten ändern muss. Aber der ROI ist extrem hoch,

sowohl bei den Conversions als auch im Privatleben.

Mehr Klarheit und Sicherheit in Kunden-Calls,

und mehr Fokus und Präsenz im Privatleben.

Wie sorgst du dafür, dass du konstant auf einem hohen Energielevel bleibst? 👇

Mein Dad (Arzt, Araber) dachte ernsthaft, ich wäre verloren.

Als ich ihm sagte, dass ich in den Vertrieb gehe, war die Enttäuschung groß. 

Keines seiner Kinder hatte Medizin studiert – ich war seine letzte Hoffnung, die „Familienehre“ zu retten. 😂

Er sagte damals sogar: „Das Kind ist verloren.“

In seiner Welt gibt es nur drei echte Berufe: Arzt, Ingenieur oder Anwalt. 

Alles andere ist nur was für Leute, die nicht wissen, was sie wollen.

Und wisst ihr was?

Er hatte recht 🤣 Ich bin in Sales gegangen, weil ich absolut nicht wusste, was ich wollte.

Aber genau dort habe ich mich gefunden.

Die echten Verbindungen zu Menschen, die tägliche Challenge, die radikale persönliche Entwicklung. 

Kein Beruf fordert und fördert dich auf menschlicher Ebene so sehr wie Vertrieb.

Vertrieb war für mich wie ein Spiegel. 

Er hat mir gezeigt, wer ich wirklich bin, wie ich ticke und was mich antreibt.

Vertrieb hat mir geholfen, mein eigentliches „Purpose“ zu finden. 

Und mein Purpose ist nicht der Vertrieb selbst.

Sondern Menschen dabei zu helfen, trotz hoher Arbeitstakt den ganzen Tag auf einem hohem Energielevel zu bleiben.

Sie dabei zu unterstützen, Resilienz aufzubauen, damit sie konstant performen, 

und Abends mit voller Fokus, Präsenz und Freude Zeit mit Familie und Freunde Zeit verbringen können.

Die beste Version von sich selbst zu verwirklichen, Beruflich und privat, 

ohne dafür sich selbst, ihre Gesundheit und Familienverhältnisse zu opfern. 

Das ist mein Antrieb. Ohne den Umweg über den Vertrieb hätte ich das nie gefunden.

Also: Danke, Dad, für das Trauma, ich weiß du hast es gut gemeint.

Ich durfte lernen, es in meine größte Stärke zu verwandeln 😄 

Was ist dein „Warum“? Was treibt dich wirklich an, jeden Tag weiterzumachen?

Kennt ihr das, wenn von 8–12 Uhr nur Termine sind,

und am Nachmittag die Batterie gefühlt leer ist?

Mein Coachee hat genau so einen Tagesablauf.

Ich habe ihm schon im Onboarding die effektivste Methode gezeigt,

mit der er sein Nervensystem kurz resettet und dadurch viel Energie gewinnt.

Wie haben wir das gemacht?

Eine einfache, jedoch kraftvolle Atemübung, die Atmen mit Dankbarkeit kombiniert,

3–5 Mal verteilt über den Tag. Dazu komme ich als Accountability Partner

und stelle sicher, dass er seine Routinen hält.

Dadurch kann er sein Energielevel über den Tag hochhalten

und am Nachmittag produktiv und fokussiert bleiben.

Ohne 5 Kaffees, ohne lange Pausen und ohne mit Willenskraft Energie zu erzwingen.

Es ist echt nicht schwer, es erfordert etwas Verständnis dafür,

wie unser System funktioniert und was uns schlecht oder gut tut,

und etwas Disziplin, um dranzubleiben.

Wie sorgst du dafür, dass du nachmittags nicht schon vom Feierabend träumst?

„Du sollst immer im Stehen telefonieren.“

Bullshit 😄

Die Theorie ist: Beim Stehen hat man eine bessere Energie und Tonalität,

Und dadurch bessere Sales-Conversions.

Ich kenne einige Top-Vertriebler, die ihr ganzes Leben sitzen 😆

Es geht nicht um Stehen oder Sitzen, sondern darum, wie es dir innerlich geht.

Wenn du sitzt und gut drauf bist, innerlich ausgeglichen bist,

Und viel Energie hast, weil du Routinen hast, die dir konstant Energie geben,

Dann wird deine Tonalität und Energie im Call auch gut sein.

Wenn du stehen musst, um auf 120 % zu sein, dann ist das genau für dich perfekt.

Finde heraus, was für dich funktioniert und was dir hilft,

so oft wie möglich in deiner Mitte zu sein, 

um die richtige Tonalität und Energie in den Calls zu haben.

Kann auch sein, dass beide für dich funktionieren und es nur Tagesabhängig ist.

Die Herausforderung dabei ist: Es gibt so viele Tipps im Internet. Wo fängt man an?

Welche Methoden funktionieren spezifisch für den Alltag von Sales-Leuten?

Ich habe die lange Arbeit von Trial-and-Error hinter mir und einiges ausprobiert,

Und einen kurzen Guide mit einfachen, erprobten Methoden erstellt,

Die dir direkt helfen können, auf eine gesunde und nachhaltige Art und Weise top zu performen.

Gestern SalesCall etwa verkackt, weil ich 

Meine eigenen Prinzipen ignoriert habe 😄 

Ich predige ''State over Everything'' in meinem Coaching.

Also sorge dafür, dass dein emotionaler und mentaler Zustand während dem Tag

Und vor allem vor Calls, ob Sales oder Cold Calls On Point ist. 

Ich glaube fest daran, dass das zu 20-30% mehr Resultate führt.

Dafür gibt es viele alltagstaugliche Methoden.

Das Ziel: negative Emotionen loslassen, Nervensystem entspannen und in einen ''Outcome independent'' Zustand zu kommen.

Und gestern habe ich selber vor einem Call das nicht gemacht, was ich immer mache. 

Eine kurze Atemübung, Emotionen loslassen und kurz frische Luft holen. 

Der Outcome? Ich war nicht 100% auf Niveau.

In der Reflexion ist mir aufgefallen, dass ich 2-3 sehr wichtige Fragen nicht gestellt haben.

Dazu habe eine Sache total übersehen und nicht zwischen den Zeilen gelesen.

Der Deal ist nicht 100% tot, aber ich fühle mich nicht optimal positioniert. Nicht gut 😆 

Normalerweise passiert mir sowas nicht. Ich bin eigentlich kein krasser Verkäufer,

Aber merke, dass meine Calls entspannter, fließender und selbstverständlicher sind,

Wenn ich mich an meine Routinen halten. 

Ich fühle Menschen besser und kann Ängste und Bedenken besser spüren und ansprechen.

Ich kann besser zwischen den Zeilen lesen, und kann dadurch den Mehrwert klarer darstellen.

Keiner kann jeden Deal abschließen, aber mein Mindset ist immer:

Dein Zustand ist das einzige, was dir keiner wegnehmen kann. 

Sorge dafür, dass er On Point ist.

Aber ey, bin dankbar für die Erfahrung. Zeigt mir wieder, 

Wie wichtig die Arbeit ist, die ich mache.
