I learnt the hard way that no amount of training or resources can succeed without addressing the foundational barriers within the organisation.

Building Enablement Systems for Scalable Revenue Growth 📈 | Strategy, Systems Thinking, and Behavioural Design | Founder, Enablement Edge Network 🌐

A month ago, I went through some of the hardest days of my life.

At the end of a normal working day, I was hit by sudden vertigo.

Within hours, it spiralled into something severe.

For three days, I couldn’t get out of bed. Barely able to eat and use the bathroom because any movement triggered violent vomiting.

The week after wasn’t much better. 

Luckily, one of my best friends was with me and helped me through it.

Try to imagine this: you stare at the room, and everything spins – fast, relentlessly, for hours. 

That’s when I understood what it really means to be powerless and incapacitated.

As someone who likes control, this was the ultimate emotional test.

Those days "broke" me.
Physically.
Psychologically.
In a way nothing else ever had.

And I’ll be honest – in the first days, fear crept in intensely. 

The kind of fear where you start wondering:

What if this doesn’t pass?
What if things don’t go back to normal?
What if this is it?

Being stuck in bed with nothing to do gives you time.
Too much time, maybe.

And that’s why I’m writing this.

Because when health is suddenly at stake, clarity arrives fast.

I wasn’t thinking about achievements, accolades, LI followers, or career. 

None of that mattered.

What mattered were different questions:

Was I moving in a direction that truly fulfilled me?
Was I experiencing the process – or just moving from one thing to the next?
Was I nurturing the relationships that actually matter?
Was I present enough with my parents and friends?
Was I acting with integrity and authenticity? 

I realised – again, but much deeper – that life is just a sequence of moments.

And rushing through them has no inherent purpose.

What are we rushing for, exactly?
Time is moving anyway.
Relentlessly.
Towards the only certainty we all share. 

This doesn’t mean giving up ambition; it means finding a better pace and rhythm – one that allows us to feel more grounded, nurtured, and aligned. 

Also, when you realise how quickly things can change, you also realise there isn’t always going to be a “later”.

Some changes can’t be postponed indefinitely.
Some conversations can’t wait.
Some truths become heavier the longer we avoid them.

One other thing.

After the worst had passed, the first food I ate was a rice cake, a carrot, and some celery.

For the first time, I truly tasted the rice in the cake. 
I noticed how fresh the carrot was.
How the celery hydrated every corner of my mouth.

I was just... there.

I’ve now almost fully recovered.

In the end, it seems this was caused by a virus that inflamed one of the nerves responsible for balance. 

This experience was brutal, but also illuminating.

While I was in bed, unable to do anything, all I wanted was to feel normal again.

I yearned to walk, eat, and sit upright without the room spinning.

The smallest things suddenly felt like everything.

Sometimes it takes losing the ordinary to understand its weight.

In enablement interviews, knowing what to do helps.

Knowing what not to do helps even more.

Many capable candidates fail interviews because of small, repeatable mistakes they are unaware of that quietly weaken the way they come across.

Over the past few months, I spoke with and surveyed 25 enablement leaders and practitioners who have collectively sat on hundreds of interview panels (I’ll tag them in the comments).

What founders misunderstand about execution speed:

They think it means moving fast.

It doesn’t.

It means deciding fast.

There’s a difference.

I’ve seen founders ship features quickly…
but delay the one decision that actually mattered:

→ Narrowing the ICP
→ Raising prices
→ Killing a feature
→ Firing the wrong client

They were “moving.”
But they weren’t progressing.

Execution speed isn’t about how fast your team builds.

But about how fast you remove uncertainty.

Slow decisions create fake work.

You build around problems
instead of solving them.

You add features
instead of simplifying.

You tweak messaging
instead of committing.

And six months later,
you’ve moved a lot...
but changed nothing.

Fast execution is clarity under pressure.

It’s saying:
“This is the direction.”
And living with it.

Speed without conviction is chaos.
Speed with clarity is leverage.

That’s the difference.

The one GTM decision 
I’d never delay again:

Narrowing the ICP early.
Most founders delay it.
Because it feels scary.

If we narrow, we lose potential customers.
If we niche down, we shrink the market.
If we focus, we miss opportunities.

That’s what it feels like.

But here’s what actually happens:

- When you stay broad,
your messaging gets weak.

- When your messaging gets weak,
your conversion drops.

- When conversion drops,
you think you have a growth problem.

You don’t.

You have a clarity problem.

Every time I’ve seen a product finally click,
it happened after the founder said:

“This is who it’s for.
And this is who it’s not.”

Revenue didn’t shrink.
It sharpened.

Sales calls got easier.
Objections got clearer.
Referrals got stronger.

Broad feels safe.
Focused feels risky.
But broad is expensive.

If I had to restart tomorrow,
I’d narrow on day one.

No hesitation.

The quiet difference between teams that scale and teams that stall:
It’s not talent.

It’s not funding.
It’s not even strategy.
It’s how they handle friction.

Teams that stall avoid friction.

They delay hard conversations.
They soften feedback.
They keep underperforming experiments alive “just in case.”
They wait for more data before committing.

Everything feels reasonable.
Until months pass.
Teams that scale lean into friction.

They:

→ Kill what’s not working quickly
→ Say the uncomfortable thing early
→ Clarify roles before resentment builds
→ Make decisions before consensus feels perfect

They don’t move recklessly.
They move decisively.

From the outside, both teams look busy.

But inside?

One is protecting comfort.
The other is protecting clarity.

That’s the difference.
And it’s rarely loud.

It shows up in small moments.
In meeting rooms.
In Slack threads.
In the tone of feedback.

Scaling isn’t about doing more.

It’s about resolving tension faster than it compounds.

That’s what separates momentum
from motion.

I kept hearing the same stories from founders.
So I started recording them.

And I realized something.

It’s decision isolation.

Revenue problems are loud.
Hiring problems are visible.
Product issues are solvable.

But decision isolation?

Why I believe founders learn more from stories than tactics.

Because tactics age fast.

What worked in 2022
might not work in 2026.

Algorithms change.
Channels saturate.
Tools evolve.

But stories?
They don’t expire.

When a founder tells you:

“We almost ran out of money.”
“I hired too early.”
“I ignored churn for too long.”
“I was scared to raise prices.”

That sticks.

Not because it’s dramatic.
But because it’s human.

You remember the emotion.
The hesitation.
The decision they made under pressure.

And when you face a similar moment,
you recognize it faster.

Tactics tell you what to do.

Stories show you how it feels.

And building is emotional.

It’s doubt.
It’s isolation.
It’s conviction without certainty.

You don’t learn that from frameworks.
You learn it from lived experience.

That’s why I’ve been spending more time in conversations.

Listening.
Recording.
Capturing the moments founders usually keep private.

Because long-term,
founders don’t need more hacks.

They need perspective.

And perspective travels best through stories.

What early traction hides about future churn.

Early traction feels like validation.

First 10 customers.
Then 30.
Then momentum.

You start thinking:
“We figured it out.”

But here’s what founders don’t see until it’s expensive:

Early customers are often forgiving.
Later customers are not.

Your first users:

• Tolerate bugs
• Overlook onboarding gaps
• Accept manual support
• Believe in you

They’re buying the vision as much as the product.

But when you scale, the next wave buys outcomes.

And that’s where churn starts showing up.

Not because the product is bad.
But because the foundation wasn’t built for scale.

Early traction can hide:

→ Weak onboarding
→ Undefined success metrics
→ Overpromised value
→ A customer profile that isn’t repeatable

Everything feels fine,
until retention tells the truth.

Traction proves demand.
Retention proves durability.
And durability is what builds real companies.

The calm work early
