Do you remember the Uber's Ferrari campaign?

December 2023. Uber partners with Sky Originals for the Ferrari film release. They offer UK Uber One members a chance to ride in an actual Ferrari Purosangue to the cinema on Boxing Day. Free tickets included.

Sounds like typical brand theatre, right? But we need to look closer.
 
To enter, you had to take any Uber ride between Dec 6-13. Not fill a form. Not tag friends. Take a ride.
That means every single entry generated revenue.

The experience was only for Uber One members. So if you weren't subscribed and wanted in, you had to sign up first.

And the timing? December. When people are traveling, visiting family, going out more. But also when regular weekday ride patterns drop.

They didn't just create a moment. They built the entire campaign around driving subscriptions and rides during a specific window.

What made this smart?

Most experiential campaigns are disconnected from the business. You create buzz, people post about it, and then what?

Uber tied every part of this to their core metrics. Rides. Subscriptions. Activity during a slow period.
The Ferrari wasn't the campaign. It was the hook to move numbers that actually matter.

And I think that's what separates good experiential marketing from expensive content.

One creates a viral moment. The other creates a reason for people to take action that benefits the business.

Good marketing creates interest. Smart marketing creates action.
