And it hit me — again — why they nailed it:

You don’t keep customers loyal with discounts.

You keep them loyal by making their life easier.

Predictability. Convenience. Habit.

It’s not sexy, but it’s sticky.

For ecommerce brands, your “subscription” might be:
1) refill reminders
2) 1‑click top‑ups
3) personal reorder nudges - “hey, we saved your favourite bundle”

Why we should be optimistic about investment in female-founded companies

Last week, I attended the Sphere App and YFM Equity Partners & Broadfield Female Founders and Women in VC networking breakfast.

And for once, I left feeling genuinely positive about the state of investment in female-founded companies… shocking, I know.

One VC I spoke to shared that 38% of the companies they invest in are female-founded.

It’s no coincidence their team is more diverse, but it’s a reminder that there are investors actively championing female and other underrepresented founders.

Now imagine if we had more of these champions.

The UK could gain £310 billion in additional economic growth if female entrepreneurs were funded at the same level as men.

Optimism backed by action is when things actually move forward.

Last week, I had two people double-no-show on calls.

I don’t think many people realise how much time and energy go into a single meeting. It’s not just a 30-minute call link, it’s:

 📝 Preparing beforehand
 🤫 Making sure I’m somewhere quiet and set up
 ⏳ Waiting at least 10 minutes in case someone’s running late

I genuinely don’t think most no-shows are intentional or rude. I think people just forget the impact it has on the person on the other side.

One no-show? Things happen.

But two? That’s a pattern.

Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Being a business for good is also good for business.

B Lab UK’s Take 10 Impact Report revealed:

🚀 UK B Corps grew turnover by 20% in the last year, almost seven times the growth of all UK SMEs.

 ✨ They also increased employee headcount by 11%, compared with just 2% across UK SMEs.

 💡 93% of B Corps have remained active since 2020, proving they’re more resilient than the average UK business.

 📊 And together, the movement now generates a combined turnover of £38bn across 120+ industries.

Yesterday, at the Beyond The Block B Corp event hosted by Waggle | B Corp and Medik8, it was a reminder of the positive businesses that are not just building ethical companies, but also successful ones.
