Have you ever wanted to message someone on LinkedIn… and then realised you can’t, because you’re not connected? 

You could send them a connection request but there is another way. 

Think what you would do in real life.

In real life, you’d see if someone could introduce you. 

On LinkedIn, we start to overthink it.

But a warm introduction is one of the easiest ways to cut through the noise, especially when someone gets loads of connection requests.

The great thing is that LinkedIn TELLS you who your mutual connections are. How easy can this be? Just send one of them a message asking for an introduction. 

That’s it. Low effort for them. High trust for you.

Do you ever ask for warm intros, or do you default to sending a cold connection request?

Happy International Women’s Day!

Cycling is such a great sport for women and look at us all about to hit some mountains!

Happy Mothers’ Day to all mums, were mums, want to be mums out there. 

Sadly not with my 3 today as I’ve just landed in Bangkok to speak at The Indie Summit with thenetworkone and also at ADFEST (Official) so a different slant on my usual Sunday Roast with the family!

What's your biggest hesitation when connecting with someone new on LinkedIn?

Do you remember being told, “Be careful, don’t talk to strangers”?
I’ve been thinking… that might be why so many smart, capable people hold back on LinkedIn.

There’s still a tiny bit of “talking to strangers” fear in there.
Here’s the reframe that helps.

Connecting with strangers on LinkedIn only feels weird if you don’t introduce yourself.

LinkedIn is basically the biggest networking party in the world.

If nobody came over, said hello, and introduced themselves… 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 would be weird.

Same rule here.
A connection request from a stranger isn’t odd.
An anonymous connection request is.

So if you want more of the right people in your network, keep it simple if you want to connect with a stranger: 

~ Check their profile
~ Hit connect
~ Add a personal note 
~ And just behave as if you were in a real life situation

And if connecting cold still feels a bit cold warm it up first:

~ Comment on their posts (even if you’re not connected yet) and start there.
~ Reframe it like this: you’re not pitching. You’re introducing yourself.

This one line changes how you lead employee advocacy.

Because the fastest way to kill it is to treat people like a channel:

“Here are the KPIs. Here’s the ROI. Here’s what we need by next Tuesday.”

I’ve seen this happen. A leadership team rolls out a shiny advocacy plan, there's even a spreadsheet with RAG ratings. It looks great. Everyone nods, and then… nothing. 

Not because people don’t care, but because the ask doesn’t fit the reality of their people and their day.

It’s like buying everyone a gym membership and acting surprised when nobody goes.

It sounds great on paper but fails in real life.

Real advocacy is nurtured, not forced.

Start with what is actually achievable for your teams:

Praise what they can do. Encourage consistency. Reduce pressure. Remove friction.
