Why 2019 SEO Strategies Don’t Work in 2026

When ChatGPT launched in 2022, most SEOs called it a threat to Google.

We called it a signal.

Buyers were already searching on YouTube, Reddit, Amazon, and forums long before AI tools existed. 

ChatGPT didn't change the behavior. It confirmed it.

So I came up with PlatformLeverage back then, a service focuse don helping brands work on cross-platform visibility before it became the cool thing to do.

Today, Rand Fishkin published a fascinating research showing 26% of desktop searches happen outside Google across 41 platforms. 

Amazon, YouTube, and Bing each get more search activity than ChatGPT. 
Social and commerce platforms combined account for more than AI tools do.

Nobody's surprised by this if they've been watching actual buyer behavior.

Instead of continuing with PlatformLeverage, we've adopted the Search Everywhere terminology, as it clearly expresses the search focus blended with the cross-platform angle. 

The name changed. The idea didn't.

Your buyers don't research on one platform. 
They never did.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella just unveiled Copilot Cowork - an autonomous agent that can plan and execute multi-step work across Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and your entire Microsoft 365 stack.

You give it intent: “Prepare me for the Q2 review with Acme.”

It builds the plan.
Pulls the data.
Writes the deck.
Schedules prep time.
Drafts the emails.

And runs the workflow in the background.

The agentic orchestration layer powering it comes from Claude Cowork, Anthropic’s technology.

That makes this one of the biggest enterprise wins the $380 billion AI lab has landed so far 🤯

It could change the enterprise AI game significantly thanks to:

Microsoft 365 has hundreds of millions of seats. Copilot already has 15M+ paid users and 90% of the Fortune 500.

↳ Enterprise trust unlocked

Claude’s agentic tech is now wrapped in Microsoft’s security stack: Purview, Entra, audit logs, and compliance.

↳ Strategic signal

Microsoft’s deepest AI partner is OpenAI (it has 27% stake).
Yet the system executing long-horizon work plans now runs Anthropic’s stack.

↳ A learning flywheel

Every enterprise workflow running inside Copilot now trains Claude on real office work.
This alone could be a huge unlock for real-world workflows.

My takeaway is this:

The biggest shift we’re witnessing now is not about better chatbots or the latest LLMs.

It’s all about software that plans and executes knowledge work while you watch the progress bar 🤖

Anthropic built the AI agent that made Microsoft nervous.

So Microsoft turned around and shipped it to the corporate world.

Now the operating system of global office work runs on Claude AI.

The board wasn't wrong to ask the question.

A SaaS founder came to us after their Series A. Investors had flagged paid dependency in the data room. CAC was climbing, the paid channel was working but getting more expensive every quarter, and no one could point to an organic engine that would hold up under scrutiny. 

They'd tried SEO once. Got blog traffic. Zero demos.

We didn't start with content.

We mapped where their buyers actually shortlisted vendors before booking a call based on self attribution. 

Turned out two specific Reddit communities and Perplexity were where the real decisions happened. 

Their competitors showed up in both. They didn't show up in either.

Six months in, their call booking form tells a different story. Discovery sources now include Perplexity, the two Reddit threads, and a specific obstacle people worried about before buying, where the brand now shows up in ChatGPT.

If your paid CAC is climbing and your organic channel isn't compounding results, that's the gap worth closing before your next board review.

The funnel wasn't broken.

Send genuinely useful content. Product education, community highlights, quiz emails, industry myth-busting.

Give value first. Sales become easier.

2. Commitment & Consistency

Split your flows by behavior. New customer vs returning customer. Browser vs cart abandoner.

One client uses a special email for people who click but don't buy, showing third-party lab results. Converts skeptics into buyers.

3. Social Proof

Show off reviews everywhere. The uglier and more authentic, the better they perform.

Real customer photos beat studio shots every time.

4. Authority

Trustpilot badges. Press mentions. Doctor endorsements if you have them.

Stack your credibility where people can see it.

5. Liking

Send from a person, not just your brand name.

6. Scarcity

Use real scarcity. Countdown timers, actual stock numbers.

Their sale email had a massive hero image that pushed everything below the fold.

No CTA visible when you opened it. No social proof. No trust signals.

You'd think they were bootstrapping from a bedroom.

So we redesigned it:

↳ Put a clear CTA above the fold

↳ Made the headline actually readable (it was tiny before)

↳ Showed off their authority

The result? An email that would absolutely crush their original.

The lesson here is simple:

2 stupidly simple subject line hacks that blow up email revenue

(We've tested these across 70+ brands)

Most people overthink subject lines.

They spend 20 minutes crafting the perfect clever line that nobody opens.

Here's what actually works:

Hack #1: ALL CAPS subject lines

Sounds aggressive, right? But the data doesn't lie.

We ran a quick test on a welcome email for one of our clients.

Original subject line: 65.6% open rate

ALL CAPS version: 71.49% open rate

Same email. Same audience. Just uppercase letters.

The winning variation did $22,174 in revenue.

Hack #2: Use prefixes

RE:, JUST IN:, INSIDE:, FYI:

These work because they hijack pattern recognition in the inbox.

One client tested an ALL CAPS prefix vs lowercase:
↳ ALL CAPS PREFIX: 51.85% open rate
↳ lowercase prefix: 48% open rate

Another client saw even crazier results:
↳ With prefix: 87% open rate
↳ Without prefix: 66% open rate

That's a 21 percentage point jump from adding two words.

Stop trying to be clever with subject lines.

Start using what actually gets emails opened.

Sometimes the simplest tactics print the most money.

That's it.

5 minutes after cart abandonment vs 45 minutes after.

Or 15 minutes vs 30 minutes.

Sounds too simple to matter, right?

Wrong.

One client test:
↳ Original (longer delay): $2.83 revenue per recipient
↳ Shorter delay: $4.39 revenue per recipient

That's 55% more revenue from the exact same email.

Another test we ran:
↳ 15 minute delay: 64.9% open rate, 15.6% click rate, 6.4% conversion rate
↳ 30 minute delay: Lower across the board
