I want to share more about Primer for Partners, because this is a meaningful shift for the industry.

When we started Primer, we built complex abstractions that allowed us to connect to more than 140 services across the payment lifecycle. The idea was simple: give merchants the ability to activate the right services quickly and without friction. That foundation changed the ecosystem. Merchants now go live faster with services that truly fit their needs, and providers see revenue earlier because integration times move from months to weeks or even days.

We always knew how this space would evolve. A longer read, because the problem is bigger than it seems.

77% of medium-sized enterprises in the UK and US lose up to $250,000 every year to hidden FX fees and poor conversion rates.

These findings come from a study we conducted with 150 finance executives at mid-sized companies in the US and UK that sell in at least five international markets in a selected group of verticals. Beyond the study, we had already seen this ourselves through the data surfaced by our new reconciliation product.

Line after line, merchant after merchant, the pattern was unmistakable. Significant amounts of money were disappearing into FX.

Then came a meeting that made everything real.

We were sitting with a publicly traded company. The conversation was going well. Then we asked a simple question: “How are you managing FX?” The entire room went quiet. We showed them publicly available data on their own quarterly FX fees. Their answer was honest: “We know. It is painful, but we have not found anyone who can help, and our systems are difficult to change.”

And the problem does not end there. 71% of finance teams spend more than a quarter of their time on manual and spreadsheet-based work.

The cost of all this is enormous. Margins shrink. Visibility fades. Operational efficiency suffers as processes slow down and work piles up. Teams lose the ability to make confident decisions.

For years, the ecosystem has operated in a way that made these problems convenient. Some providers earned more by keeping FX opaque and complex, so the incentive to improve things was never really there.
