beehiiv made a splash this week with its Winter Release 2025 event, unveiling more than 10 new features. 

These include native podcast functionality, a link-in-bio tool, digital products, an AI website builder, web analytics, automations, paid subscriptions, dynamic content, and much more.

Beehiiv has historically been bucketed in competition with Substack, Kit, and other legacy email service providers like Mailchimp.

With the launch of these new tools, beehiiv is now competing with a much larger group of platforms and tools, including:

📦 Digital product platforms like Gumroad and Shopify

Beehiiv’s expansion into these areas reflects the current market.

Creators (and publishers) are diversifying their content formats from blogs and newsletters to podcasts, and expanding revenue streams like digital products, subscriptions, and coaching. They also need the right tools to market their work and understand the impact of it and their audiences.

✂️ Instagram's video editing app, Edits, is seeing notable growth, with weekly creator usage nearly doubling in Q3 and monthly actives up 40%.

🛒 Facebook Marketplace adds social features, letting users curate listings, invite friends, chat with sellers, and like/comment to personalize recommendations.

🎧  TikTok and Threads turn to podcasts, with TikTok launching a Podcast Network with iHeartRadio and Threads adding discovery features for podcasts.

📢 TikTok officially launched Bulletin Boards, its iteration of Instagram Broadcast Channels, giving creators a dedicated space to share updates and exclusive content.

🧵 Patreon added new discovery features, including Quips (short, Twitter-like posts) and Collabs, letting creators co-author posts and reach new audiences.

🔍 LinkedIn launched AI-powered people search, which lets Premium subscribers search for people using natural-language prompts.

🛍️ LTK launched Brand Profiles, letting brands establish their presence with creator-generated content featuring their products. 

🧠 OpenAI is piloting group chats in ChatGPT, similar to Microsoft Copilot Groups, creating a shared AI space for planning, brainstorming, and collaboration.

🌏 South Korea is considering restricting entry for foreign creators posting hateful or derogatory content online.

Netflix is betting big on video podcasts and they’re not alone.

After announcing a partnership with Spotify to bring a slate of sports, culture, and lifestyle video podcasts to Netflix in 2026, the streaming giant is making other moves.

It’s reportedly negotiating exclusive deals with iHeartMedia and SiriusXM while courting more video podcasters through major talent agencies like Creative Artists Agency and United Talent Agency. 

Other platforms have been making similar bets:

📦 Amazon secured the rights to the Kelce brothers’ New Heights podcast this past summer, with select episodes available on Prime Video

 📺 Tubi just inked a deal with Audiochuck, which is home to the top true crime podcast in Crime Junkie 

Streamers have have been chasing creator content all year, but video podcasts might be the most appealing. 

They run long, have built-in audiences, and are cheaper to produce. That aligns perfectly with what platforms value: increasing viewing sessions, retaining subscribers, and lowering licensing costs compared to scripted shows.

If Netflix lands these deals, it could build a strong podcast library.  But YouTube still dominates as the biggest podcast platform.

And that brings us to the big question: with streaming platforms chasing more exclusive deals, will creators be willing to give up YouTube, which many consider their ‘Hollywood’?
