OpenAI has once more revised its revenue projections until 2030. The money incinerator now plans to 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲 its burn rate and might lose up to $85 billion in 2028 alone.

According to materials obtained by 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘐𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, Sam Altman's AI lab is planning to generate almost $300bn in revenue in 2030, putting the chatbot maker in the same league as companies such as Google, Meta, and Microsoft today.

Without question, this would be the fastest and most impressive revenue ramp-up in history. However, it is far from certain that OpenAI will be able to deliver on its massive ambition.

For OpenAI to meet their numbers, they would need to make billions of dollars with hardware sales from 2028 on, as well as generating additional ad dollars from consumers, a move that has been ridiculed in Anthropic's latest Super Bowl ad and that a competitor (Perplexity) has just stopped pursuing in favour of a better user experience.

OpenAI's B2B and platform business is also under extreme pressure from Anthropic's Claude and Gemini, which are favoured by many enterprise customers, and Anthropic might win more B2B revenue than OpenAI this year.

As of now, I'd rather bet on Google and Anthropic. However, as of today, all relevant AI labs have consistently exceeded their revenue projections (with the exception of Elon Musk's trainwreck xAI, of course). So Sam might be in his right to increase his estimates once more... Which player would your money be on?
