When a golf course isn't growing I don’t think it's a pricing problem.

They have an unbalanced value scale.

Think of a traditional scale. Price on one side, perceived value for money on the other.

The value scale measures the space between what a course charges and what a golfer feels it’s worth. You see it when a round is $150, but the website is from 2002, social content looks like crap, and you get a cold, uncaring feeling on property.

The more price outweighs value on the scale the more customers decide you're not worth risking their money over.

The default reaction is to discount. That instantly lightens the load. 

Discounting may close the gap. But in reality, it proves the lack of perceived value is justified and sacrifices profit for recovered revenue in the process.

This is the real fix:

Audit every place a golfer forms an opinion before they ever book. Website, content, email, phone calls, follow-ups. Identify the issues and fix them. It's very simple in theory. Often painful in practice because we hate change.

When:
brand perception < pricing, margins die to discounts
brand perception = pricing, growth matches effective marketing.
brand perception > pricing, increase prices to unlock new rev.
