We are clearly living in the narrative economy. Thoughts on this...

- Huge narratives dominate the market right now. AI is much bigger than the SaaS narrative of last 20 years. Think of it as epoch-making science fiction, rather than "this GTM tool allows you to send 113 more emails a day".

- You might think that today's dominant, overarching narrative is about AI, but the really big story is: are we headed towards utopia or dystopia? See Citrini Research piece and Matt Shumer's Something Big is Happening. Those things went viral for a reason.

- There are a lot of death/annihilation narratives in the market right now. Death of SaaS, death of the professional class, degen/YOLO economy, government intervention (yes, even that's a death story). There's a reason the news industry never focuses on good news.

- Narrative securitization is a thing. A "credible" narrative about the future has become a tradable asset. Wall Street repriced on Citrini's doomsday scenario (a reframe) and Tier 1 VCs make monster bets on the biggest stories in market.

- Social media and AI (more storytellers, more variants, more memetic competition) have created a "durability paradox". Which is something like... even though narratives are more powerful than ever, they're also less durable than ever.

- You need to be able to answer the question "What's the next narrative?" It's the most important career skill right now.

- That sounds great, but it's cheap advice b/c we're living in a timespace where nobody knows which narrative will win. We simply don't know what to believe, so we put our heads down and focus on today's 9-5. Which is probably a rational choice.

What should you do? I'm not exactly sure, but one thing I would do is spend real time trying to achieve narrative literacy.
