Built the Security Engineering team for the Mercedes-Benz Infotainment System at MBition. Led the team as Engineering Lead and acted as Product Owner initially at the build-up phase for about two years.

Senior Principal Product Cybersecurity Officer

I was the first hired cybersecurity expert at MBition (a software development hub of Mercedes-Benz focusing on Infotainment and Instrument Cluster software stack). Since my joining, I helped MBition in building a sustainable cybersecurity culture in order to develop “security DNA” within the development teams. 

My other key responsibilities & achievements are:

- Mentoring engineering teams on security engineering and architecture aspects
- Provide guidance to product security team on security mechanism enforcement, security testing integration in CI/CD, and security tools development
- Led security concept definition, architecture analysis & design, and subsequent development activities for the next generation Head-Unit of Mercedes Benz, consisting of Infotainment Software Stack  and Instrument Cluster Software stack
- Established and rolled out a threat modelling (TM) practice end-to-end (from process definition, tool development, getting dev teams buy-in, to rolling out the practice) to 50+ agile software development team in a large automotive ECU software platform development project 
- Created a cybersecurity training curriculum on topics like system security, OS security, threat modeling and secure coding which trained 150+ engineers over a period of 18 months, significantly improving the cybersecurity competence of the engineers validated by security tournaments and experimental scientific research
- Supported security team in the enforcement of internal security guidelines and secure coding standards
- Founded “White-hats security group”, consisting of cybersecurity enthusiast engineers from development teams, which has been instrumental in increasing the cybersecurity awareness within MBition
- Rolled out security champion program with security representatives from the development teams at MBition
- Involved in integrating security activities into the agile product development and management process of the company in accordance with ISO/SAE 21434

- Security requirement analysis and concept development during the RFI & RFQ phase to secure new project awarding
- System security requirement specification based on security concept and driving the implementation of system security (e.g. secure boot, file system integrity, disk encryption, service/application sandboxing with Linux security mechanism like DAC, ACL, CGROUPS, Capability, MAC) and system hardening (e.g. OS hardening, kernel hardening, application hardening) features 

Key Achievements:
- Security concept and architecture definition and design for the pioneering 5G Telematics Control Unit of Harman (the first 5G TCU in automotive industry based on Samsung’s flagship 5G Automotive modem Exynos S5123) for the customer BMW
- Setup a successful collaboration model between Harman’s Centre of Competence (CoC) for Security and the security team of the business unit I worked to transfer/exchange security-know-how
- wrote the complete specification and statement of work (SoW) for Trusted Execution Environment from the scratch for the 5G TCU project for BMW. This specification was later used for in-house TEE (known as HARTOS, Harman Trusted OS) development.
