A few years ago Greg Simms and Jen Sewell (Greg & Jen) on Star in San Diego created a character from a listener’s contribution.  The station’s target audience was 25-44 year old soccer moms, and particularly those in upscale neighborhoods.  Carmel Valley is to San Diego what Orange County is to Los Angeles.  It’s ripe for parody, but they couldn’t come off as attacking their target audience.  So a very clever listener became “Carmel Valley Kim”.  With her extreme point of view, response to Kim ranged from outrage to support.  It gained traction, and became a mini-brand on the station.
