Employer branding doesn’t start with a nice career page.
It starts with how you treat candidates.

You can have the perfect “We’re hiring!” video, a shiny LinkedIn presence, and value statements plastered everywhere…

But if candidates have a bad experience, that’s the only story they’ll remember.

And that’s what hurts your employer brand.

Recruiting is hard.
It takes time.
You juggle it with a million other priorities.
I’ve made mistakes myself.

But here are 3 simple rules that changed the way I recruit,
and - hopefully - improved candidates’ experience:

1️⃣ If you ask for a case study, review it with them.

Even if the work isn’t great. 
Especially if it isn’t great.

They invested hours, the least you can do is invest 30 minutes.
It’s basic respect. And an easy way to help someone grow.

2️⃣ If you reject someone, tell them why.

No template.
No long lists either, they only hurt.
Just one clear, honest reason.

Best case: it helps them improve for their next process.
Worst case: it protects their confidence instead of crushing it.

3️⃣ If they’re not a fit for you, share them with someone else.

Some candidates are too junior, too senior, or too expensive for you… but perfect for someone else.

You have a network.
And managers hiring similar roles all the time.

A quick intro or Slack message can change a candidate’s week,
and help your peers too (you already did the whole qualification!).

It costs nothing.
It means everything.

Nice words and polished videos don’t build an employer brand.

How you treat people does.
