In 2018 the 107-year-old KU12 ended up in Workum, where a refit turned out to be no longer enough. That is why in 2020 a major restoration has started in which a lot of wood is to be replaced. 

In addition to the restoration, the Foundation also wanted to make the Punter more sustainable and improve the sailing characteristics. That is why the Foundation has contacted NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden to help with this. The research on the KU12 is as follows: How can a modern and efficient sailing Punter be made of the 107-year-old KU12?
In order to answer this research question, a large number of sub-questions have been drawn up. For example, the Foundation wanted to know whether it is possible to use a liftable pod motor, in addition, an efficient propellor had to be calculated. The rudder had to be changed so that the KU12 would have better manoeuvring capabilities. In addition, there are a number of other questions about the stability and lay-out of the KU12.

Growing up in The Netherlands, surrounded by the lakes and the seas, Guy Fleury’s passion for the water, sailing and yachts developed from a young age. This is the reason why Guy chose to study Naval Architecture in Leeuwarden. The study in combination with sailing is a good inspiration for the photos that he takes.

Guy is an all-round photographer, he is specialised in exterior-, interior-, lifestyle- and building process photos. It is not only photography that plays an important role in his work, but also the making of company films, instruction films and time-lapses.

Within this role, I managed new and ongoing projects for the supply of IMO Certified (Marine) Interior Products to the Marine Industry (Cruise Ships, Ferries, Yachts, Offshore Rigs etc.). This company specialises in the supply of Floor Coverings, Wall Coverings, Temporary Protection, Mattresses, Consumables and More. KJ Marine is extremely customer service driven which helped me fit in from the start. 

My key responsibilities: Sales, Project Management, International Accounts, Contract Negotiation, Warehouse / Stock Management, Sampling, Logistics, Data and Resources, Marketing and General Office management. 

As a part of my role, I have experienced international travel. During these trips I have designed, prepared, and managed Exhibition stands at multiple events across Europe to obtain new business. Meanwhile, fitting in appointments to maintain healthy working relationships with existing customers and update them on our latest products. 

In my 5 years working in this role, I have experienced a variety of challenges and learned a lot about business / The Marine Industry. I have had to deal with high volumes of work & daily responsibilities and feel this has tailored my ability to move forward into demanding roles with confidence.

From various roles In previous years, I’ve developed a strong skillset & knowledge base within the marine industry that allows me to understand things from the perspective of yacht crew, shipyards, refit & outfit contractors, and brokers.
