Your data is currently sitting on a GPU (the computer brain that powers AI), being processed by an LLM (ChatGPT, etc.).

But is that GPU secure?

Most people don't think about this. You send your prompt to ChatGPT, Claude, or your company's AI model. It hits a GPU somewhere in a data centre. Gets processed. Sends back a response.

Job done, right?

Except whilst that GPU is working on your data, it's completely exposed in GPU memory.

The cloud provider can see it. Their engineers can access it. Anyone who compromises that system can read it.

Uploading confidential documents for analysis? Customer data for insights? Proprietary code for debugging?

All sitting there in plain text on someone else's GPU.

This is why confidential computing GPUs matter.

They create a secure enclave (a locker) around your data, encrypting it even whilst the GPU is actively processing it. Nobody outside that enclave can see what's happening inside. Not the cloud provider. Not their staff. Nobody.

Really happy to be supporting Digital Assets & Web3 London again this year as an Ambassador.

Last year, I flew in from Switzerland and was at the venue within 30 minutes of leaving Heathrow. It's this incredible hidden gem that feels worlds away from the usual stuffy conference halls and, honestly, such a breath of fresh air. (Literally)

What actually stuck with me, though, was how easy it was to have real conversations. Between the "in-the-round" sessions and the 1:1s, the whole format just felt natural rather than forced. It's one of those rare events where you actually get to connect with the right people.

Plus, the food was amazing (the Michelin-star rumours are definitely true), and catching the sunset over the polo field was a pretty unforgettable backdrop for networking.

Can't wait to be back there this summer with Robby Yung, Alexandra Lloyd LL.M, Simon Barnby and many others.

After 30 years of building partnerships across enterprise and recently deploying GPU infrastructure across Europe and North America, here's the 4-layer framework I use to evaluate whether AI compute is genuinely sovereign, or just marketing.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸:

𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝟭: 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘁𝗲

→ Who owns the GPUs? Where are they physically located?
→ Is the data centre in a jurisdiction with strong privacy laws?

𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝟮: 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹

→ Does the hardware support confidential computing at the chip level?
→ Can the operator access your prompts? If yes, it's not sovereign.

𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝟯: 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

→ Is there end-to-end encryption from prompt to response?
→ Does the interface enforce privacy by design?

𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝟰: 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲

→ Who decides how the infrastructure evolves?
→ Is there decentralised oversight, or a single corporate board?

NVIDIA's Blackwell B200+B300 architecture now enables hardware-level confidential computing,  encrypting all data in GPU memory and NVLink pathways. This makes Layer 2 achievable at scale for the first time.


The EU understands this. With 15 AI factories coming online by 2026 and the AI Act now requiring transparency on high-risk systems, Europe is building sovereignty into infrastructure, not just policy.

Save this framework. Use it the next time someone tells you their AI is "privacy-first."

Which layer do you think enterprises overlook most?

Most AI and Blockchain companies lose the deal before the first meeting ends.

Not because the tech isn't good.

Because they pitch at Stage 1 and expect Stage 5 behaviour.

I've watched this pattern destroy deals that should have closed. A founder walks in with genuinely impressive technology. Weeks later....sometimes days..... It's dead.

The tech didn't fail. Trust did.

So I built something called The Adoption Bridge, a 5-stage model for how institutions actually adopt emerging technology:

- Stage 1: Curiosity "Tell me more"
- Stage 2: Compliance Mapping "Can legal and risk approve this?"
- Stage 3: Pilot "Let's test it small and contained"
- Stage 4: Integration "How does this connect to what we already have?"
- Stage 5: Ecosystem Participation "We want to build on this"

When I integrated AI and ML to audit import/export government data at SGS in 2020, a publicly listed, world-leading organisation, I didn't lead with the technology.

I led with this:

"We can help you do what you already do. Faster, better, cheaper. 24/7/365, never sick, doesn't take knowledge to the next highest pay-check and all with technology that never stops learning, never forgets, and is already regulatory-compliant."

That opened the door.

Then I spent months in Stages 2 and 3, demos, testing, and regulatory alignment, before the organisation was ready to integrate fully.

Here's the uncomfortable truth most founders won't admit:

They're impatient.

They see Stage 1 interest and think the deal is nearly closed.

It isn't.

Enterprise and institutional buyers need to know you understand their constraints, their internal processes, and their risk appetite. That takes time. That takes patience.

The founders who win? They don't rush Stages 2 and 3.
They build trust there.

Save this framework and use it the next time a deal stalls or a pitch isn't landing.

Outsourcing AI used to mean handing over your data and hoping for the best.

Confidential compute quietly changes that equation.

If a third-party provider can provably demonstrate that your data was not visible to their engineers or their infrastructure, the conversation shifts from trust to verification. That's not a small thing. That's the difference between a legal risk and a commercial decision.

Suddenly, the economics look different.

More specialised AI providers can compete for regulated workloads they were previously excluded from. 

Enterprises can outsource without exposing their crown jewels.

The interesting question is who prices this correctly first. Providers who understand the value of provable privacy could charge a premium that reshapes the entire outsourcing market.

Does verified privacy become the new baseline, or does it remain a premium feature that only regulated industries care about?
