Coaching professional artists and designers (and creative thinkers)  in English language skills in immersive, creative ways.

ART GENE LIMITED

Art Gene commissioned a website from a web development company, who struggled to put order to the content and understand which parts of the projects should be highlighted.

They engaged me to oversee the development of the Art Gene site, liaise between client and supplier and write/edit written and photographic content included in the site and generally ensure that their site got lighter and easier to use without any loss of content (I initiated a system of layers where content revealed itself with an initial summery, followed by increasingly detailed and specific information).

Website Coordinator

Exhibition Coordinator for Art Gene's Digital Exhibition Programme, which replaced Art Gene's physical U-Hang exhibition programme. 

Digital Gene Pool, and Digital U were consecutive year's digital exhibition programme featuring and promoting 6 exhibitions of digital art per year. This role was all encompassing, including selecting the artists, advertising each opportunity, developing the exhibition with the artists and promoting the exhibition widely.

Exhibition Coordinator - Digital Exhibition Programme

Curating a  programme of exhibitions of contemporary art within the Arts Centre relating to the research remit of Art Gene, who are an internationally renown arts organisation producing/exhibiting pioneering research and art and design relating to the social and built environment of Barrow - and beyond. This programme of exhibitions specifically links to themes of permaculture, allotments and the adaptation of the natural world to industrial or military sites.

An English course with creative content. Learning English by researching weekly themes relevant to architecture using a wide variety of sources including visual art, film, music, sociology, urbanism.

Working with students of DUT Carrières Sociales (Communication)  (2nd Year)  - students who are aiming in the future to run workshops for the socially disfranchised and/or disadvantaged, including prisoners, the disabled and the elderly.

Taught English to professionals, mostly individuals (face to face) classes, but fairly often pairs or small groups. 
Worked with many heath professionals through organisations like HAS, INPES, Agence de Biomedicine, and business professionals including AFNOR, ArcelorMittal and Nike. All levels, different professional needs for English including coaching for presentations.

Too often, directors hire an ‘English teacher’ to deliver a high school-style English class because that’s how it is always done.

English at art schools needs to get out of the classroom. English classes are failing to teach English skills for professional creative careers.

- Don’t serve neurodiverse students (statistically around 40% of an art school population).

With today's technology, art students don't need to sit in an 'English class,' they can improve their English with real-life creative experiences.

I have the capacity to help 3 art schools with their English in 2023/24. I will collaborate with you to meet admin, grading and school-wide academic goals.
