Self-Management of Depression

Depression is a complex illness, which presents in a myriad of ways and almost 60-70% people treated with antidepressants fail to achieve a symptom-free state when first treated with these medications. The treatment of depression cannot be pigeon-holed into one or two kinds of treatment modalities. Self-management is increasingly becoming the standard of care in people with long-standing medical conditions. Self-management puts one in the driver’s seat with regards to making choices regarding one’s health. However, treatment of depression has lagged behind in incorporating the concept of self-management with the most popular self-help paradigm on depression focusing mostly on cognitive-behavioral approaches. Self-management goes beyond the narrow perspective of self-help and addresses life style changes, social relationships, communication, problem-solving, and also includes elements of wellness and recovery.

Highly experienced and dedicated social work and legal professional with a passion for teaching and helping others.  With a background in both law and social work, I possess a unique blend of knowledge and skills that enable me to tackle complex social issues with a multidisciplinary approach. I have my Juris Doctor from New York Law School and Master of Social Work from Rutgers University School of Social Work, with a concentration in Nonprofit and Public Management and areas of emphasis in International Social Work and Global Development Policy. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from The College of New Jersey, where I minored in Religion.  

I'm a licensed social worker in both New Jersey and New York and hold several certifications, including a Confidential Sexual Violence Advocate Certification.  I am currently pursuing additional certifications, including: Mindfulness Meditation Teaching, 200-HR Yoga Teacher Training, and Integrative Nutrition Health Coaching.  

I am a Part-Time Lecturer at Rutgers University School of Social Work.  I also work Part-Time as an outpatient therapist.  

As the Founder and CEO of IntegralPTSD, I provide one-on-one and group trauma healing coaching and grief and loss coaching to clients all over the world. I have also created and taught online courses and workshops on PTSD and trauma recovery, published articles on trauma, healing, and spirituality in my blog The Trauma Healer, and work with organizations to conduct organizational interventions and update diversity and inclusion policies.  I am also the founder and CEO of House of Beauty and Birch LLC, a business solutions consulting firm where I work on projects related to marketing and content management strategy, copywriting, fundraising, and public relations. I am a committed advocate for trauma healing and recovery and am dedicated to helping individuals and organizations reach their full potential.  

I am an active member of several professional organizations, including the National Academy of Social Work Practice, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and the Professional Writers' Alliance. 
With a passion for promoting ethics and innovation in the field of mental health, I have published several articles on the topic, including "Ethics and The Rise of Artificial Intelligence in Mental Health" and "ChatGPT and Artificial Intelligence in Therapy and Mental Health". Additionally, I have been interviewed by Copywriting.org for my expertise in copywriting, which is a testament to my abilities as a consultant.
