At 29, my dad lost his father
At 29, I lost my dad

It has been 2 months today, there are days I feel like I can’t handle the pain.

Then I remember he was my age too when he lost his father.

Yet he kept going. 
He chose kindness. 
He built a beautiful life for us.

That thought gives me strength.

If he could move forward with love, maybe I can too.

My father never spoke about marriage as a tool for survival just because I am a girl.

He came from a Tier-3 city.
Grew up in a village.
Yet he was always ahead of his time.

He gave me the best education.
Encouraged me to choose my own career.
Never once said I should do or not do something because I am a girl.

A traditional man. The provider of the family.
Yet he believed women today should earn their own money.

My mother is my soul. My companion through every milestone.

But my father was the shoulders that raised me higher.

Behind every bold and confident woman is a father who simply let her be.

I miss you, Papa♥️

A few days ago, I was in an Uber.

A car came from the other side. It was moving a little slowly.

The Uber bhaiya looked at it and casually said,
“Ladki hogi.”

A few seconds later, the car passed us.

Inside was a middle-aged uncle.

Bhaiya gave me an embarrassing look. But it also made me think.

Some stereotypes are so common that we don’t even realise when we repeat them.

Especially on the road.

This Women’s Day, I came across an initiative by boAt Lifestyle Dashcam that talks about exactly this.

Instead of debating these stereotypes, women drivers simply drive through them. With skill. With confidence.

A simple reminder for all of us.

Driving skill has nothing to do with gender.

After all, the engine doesn’t care who’s in the driver’s seat.

Turning 25? You hate your life for falling behind.

Turning 30? You feel late for everything.

Like many of us, I also believed in these age milestones.

My dad recently passed away at 56.

And suddenly, life looks very different.

When he was gone, all people could say was

“Just 56”
“Too early”

See the irony?

At 25 or 30 we think time is running out.
But in the 50s, it suddenly feels too early.

That’s when I realised -
maybe every year we get to live is actually a gift.

Even if you don’t achieve anything extraordinary.

Just being able to be - is something to be grateful for.

We are not celebrating Holi today.

But since morning, many people showed us real kindness.

They sent us some of the food they had cooked.

Before going out to play Holi, they came to check on us first.

Some came to just give us company.

We are a grieving family.

Not all of them are close to us, many were distant neighbours.

In a world where we often see so much negativity, moments like this remind us that good people still exist.

It meant more than they know.

It’s honest.

Grateful to see initiatives like “HerVerse” by Mahindra Finance bringing real women’s stories forward. Spaces like this matter.
