My cat, Mr. Lucky, is watching the snow like it’s the greatest show on Earth…
and he made himself “ice cream”. 😄

He is not the only excited creature.
I did something radical for a busy professional:
I blocked time with ONE goal:
Play in snow. Go all-in on joy.

Not after emails. Not after “one more task.” Not after I’ve “earned it.”
I just went.
Snowman. Snow fight. Sledging down the slope.
Came home soaked, freezing… and ridiculously alive.
Then I called my mom. She said:
“What makes you so happy, my dear?”

Time isn’t wasted when you’re playing.
Time is wasted when your body is somewhere… but your mind is elsewhere.

Here’s the leadership lesson I’m taking into 2026:
Joy isn’t a reward for finishing life.
Joy is fuel for living it.

Happy Monday! Sharing a real leadership moment. 
A senior leader once told me:
 “My team lacks ownership. They just execute, no initiative.”

He wasn’t wrong about the symptom.

But when I spoke with his team, I heard the real cause:
“Every mistake is remembered.”
“Every decision gets questioned.”
“If something goes wrong, someone gets blamed.”

So people adapted.
They stopped taking smart risks.
They stopped speaking up early.
They stopped proposing improvements.

Not because they didn’t care.
Because they were protecting themselves.
When survival mode is on, creativity shuts down.
When fear is present, initiative disappears.
When speaking up is punished, silence becomes a strategy.

If your team lacks ownership, it might not be a people problem.
It might be an oxygen problem.  

You need to create an environment where you ignite the inner fire of the people.
Fire cannot burn in a vacuum. It needs oxygen.

And oxygen starts with Safety:
"You can tell the truth here.”
“You can raise a risk early.”
“You can try, fail, learn, and come back stronger.”

A simple Monday practice I’ve seen work:
In your next meeting, ask:“What are we not saying that we should be saying?”
 …and celebrate the first honest answer.

Monday question for leaders:
Before asking your team for more ownership… have you made it safe to own?

Day 1 back at work in 2026! Exciting?

Question for you: have you entered a deliverable-ready state? 

Most people haven’t. 
Your mind is still in holiday mode, while work demands delivery mode.

Try this simple “Day 1 Reset” (works for executives and teams):

1) 30-minute reboot. Write down:
- the 3 most important outcomes for this week (measurable)
- the 1 deliverable you will ship today (within 24 hours)

2) One hour of real output
Before emails, before meetings, before “organizing”…do one thing that moves the business forward:
- a customer call
- a cost-saving analysis
- a first draft proposal

3) Treat energy like a business resource
- sleep earlier
- protect your peak hours
- close the day with a 5-minute review:
What did I deliver? What blocked me? What’s next?

Performance starts when you switch into delivery mode.

👉 My reset habit is simple: I start 2 days earlier and plan upfront.

#WeekendPost I was on a high-speed train when I dropped into a split to stretch. Immediately came a policeman! 
who said politely: “Madam, don’t do dangerous movements on the train.” 😂 

My friend and I laughed so hard. 😂 I thought:
This is cool. I can do a split anywhere. 

For most of my life, I believed splits were for beautiful dancers… and impossible for me.
Not flexible. No dance training. Too old. 😆 

And whenever you try something new, the “impossible” voices always show up:
- Your own conservative voice: “Come on… you’ve never done it.”
- Other people’s voices: “You? Impossible.”

But I tried anyway. At my 50th old age, I did the first perfect split. 

Most limits are not in the body. They’re in the mind.
Very often, they’re borrowed. 

So, here is your reminder:
Don’t label yourself with “impossible.”
Don’t let other people’s ceilings become your sky.
Pick one new thing. Start small. Keep going.

You'll surprise yourself. You'll be proud of yourself.

After 19 years in executive search working with leaders across industries and continents, I see the same pattern everywhere:

People wait until they’re unhappy,
then hope the next move will “fix” everything.

That’s not strategy. That’s reaction.
The biggest career jumps happen when timing, momentum, and market demand align.

Here are 5 moments when a job change compounds your career value:

1) When your skills peak in market demand

⇒ If your expertise is in high demand right now, and companies are competing for it, that’s when leverage is highest.

Example:
A supply chain leader implements AI-driven demand planning and multi-region buffering. As companies race to de-risk networks, they move into a global VP role with a significant compensation reset.

2)  Right after a visible win

⇒ People remember two things: your best moment, and your last one.
Leaving after a successful project, turnaround, or launch locks in a strong professional narrative: “They deliver.” “They lead.”

Hiring slows. Budgets tighten. Language changes.
Smart professionals don’t wait to be affected.

Example:
 A GM in a labour-intensive manufacturing segment moves into an automated, data-driven production environment before volumes soften, preserving growth trajectory and leadership scope.

5) When your growth quietly stalls

⇒ No confrontation. No drama. Just… exclusion.
Fewer meetings. Less information. No future conversation.
Staying too long in a stalled role doesn’t buy loyalty — it erodes value.

“What if discipline wasn’t a punishment, but a habit you actually enjoy?”

This morning I met a senior executive and we talked about the power of #discipline in #leadership. He said something that stuck with me:

“Discipline can be trained and cultivated in any culture.”

Then he asked: “Can you show me what a school looks like in China, the place where that discipline is taught?”

I shared a short clip taken at my parents’ home last month, in Shenzhen. It shows how a typical primary school day starts at 7:30 am. Hundreds of children moving together, running, dancing, alive, smiling, to pop music during breaks. It’s energetic, communal, joyful. And incredibly disciplined, in team!

Discipline ≠ suppression. It’s not about fear or drilling. It’s about repeated rituals that everyone owns.

Ritual creates readiness. Daily, shared practices make behavior predictable and reliable. Great for teams and organisations.

Joy accelerates habit. When repetition is social and playful, people show up willingly and consistently.

If we want teams that deliver, maybe we should stop treating discipline like a lecture and start treating it like fun?
