The internship detailed below led to my employment in the promotions department of 98*7FM. As a member of the promotions team, I helped organize our flagship Hollywood Tower Penthouse events with numerous big names in the alternative rock industry such as Cee Lo Green, Linkin Park, Jimmy Eat World, Vampire Weekend, Temper Trap, Mumford and Sons, and more! 

I worked with other members of the promotions team on 98.7FM sponsored events at venues all throughout the Greater Los Angeles area, including Vans Warped Tour 2010, US Open of Surfing at Huntington Beach, Sunset Strip Music Festival, Rock ‘n Roll Expo, Dodgers Games, and many more sponsored events.

Programming & Promotions Assistant

Clear Channel Communications is one of the largest radio companies in the country and owns thousands of stations. As an intern in the programming department of Clear Channel, I worked hard to increase the productivity of the station 98*7FM. 

My daily duties included tallying song request sheets for both KYSR 98*7FM and KIIS 102.7FM, pulling Air Checks, and editing Flip videos on iMovie for the “987fmradio” YouTube channel. I worked on the 98*7 Rock Star Contest by seeking out and contacting local bands. I loaded shows into Prophet, contributed to online marketing/blogging, updated the Indie Music Review, assisted the “Music in the Morning” show with Darren Rose, and called prize-winners for promotions.  

Outside of the office, I worked numerous events at the Hollywood Tower Penthouse, and other events throughout Greater Los Angeles.

As Chairman of “Music in the Commons,” I organized and hosted over a dozen concerts around Vanderbilt's campus. My band “The Neon Eon” performed at many of the events. Also, I came up with the idea of recording a Music in the Commons album, pitched the idea to the Dean of the Commons, Frank Wcislo, and received a $5,000 grant to make my idea a reality.

I substantiated this market summary with an Excel spreadsheet, which followed the major mergers and acquisitions in the world economy. The ones willing to grind through that gap are usually the ones worth keeping.

Clients who question the rate often become the biggest fans after seeing the work.

Not because of a sales pitch.
​
Because the quality speaks first.

That's the whole game, really.

Just keep getting so good that the work answers every question before it's even asked.

Improvement isn't about proving anything.

Not everyone who leaves a stable job is running away from something.

Some are just running back to themselves.

The 9-5 wasn't a failure.

It was a detour.

One that probably taught more than expected.

But when the entrepreneurial itch comes back, it doesn't really leave until you scratch it.

So why not now.

I thought starting a business would feel like unlocking a secret level.

spilled coffee on my laptop
got ghosted by a designer
then launched anyway with a janky version at 1am

It wasn’t smooth.
​
It wasn’t cinematic.
​
But it moved.

And sometimes that’s the whole point.

Keep moving.

Fix it later.
Laugh at it later.
But go.

You don’t need a perfect start.
​
You just need a real one.

Entrepreneurs are crazy.
​
When the flight’s canceled, they drive.
​
When the supplier ghosts, they find a workaround.
​
When the budget’s gone, they still launch.
​
It’s not always glamorous.
​
Sometimes it’s duct tape and a borrowed laptop.

Pretty refreshing advice in a world that glorifies having everything figured out at 23.

Sometimes you just need someone in your corner.

Not to fix things.

Not to have all the answers.

Just to remind you that you're not crazy for trying.

For me, that’s been my wife more times than I can count.
My kids, without even knowing, remind me why I keep pushing.
And my family, who always makes me feel like I’ve got a safety net.

I’ve also had friends, coworkers, even random people say something small that turned my whole day around.

It doesn’t take much to lift someone.

A message.
A moment.
A little belief.

If someone’s done that for you lately, tell them.

They might not even realize how much it helped.

Sometimes being an entrepreneur just means waking up to a problem you didn’t plan for…

and solving it before breakfast.

No playbook.

No heads-up.

Just a surprise curveball and a decision to make.

It's not the glamorous part.

It doesn’t make it to the highlight reel.

But it’s where the muscle gets built.

The calm after the chaos isn’t luck.

It’s a skill.

A quiet kind of grit that says:

“Didn’t see this coming. Still here. Let’s go.”

Success isn’t always about scaling fast.

Sometimes it’s just about staying steady when the unexpected hits.

And doing it again tomorrow.
