As a self-taught Power BI enthusiast, most of my favorite books and resources that helped me understand Power Query, Power Pivot, data modeling, DAX, and the REAL "Power" of Power BI and the entire Microsoft Power Platform came from P3 and their People.

So, naturally, it was a dream come true to join this esteemed team of Power BI experts. It was like I had found my people, where we all spoke the same language, and they told me, "Welcome Home!"

As a Power BI training instructor for people in all different types of organizations and industries, I enjoyed connecting with those who were eager to learn - I realized there's nothing like the "oh! wow! I get it, now!" feeling when a student begins to learn the tech and see the worlds of possibilities to improve their lives and businesses as a result.

In a fancy high-rise building in downtown Austin, I got to spend a lot of time with a very small team as part of a quantitative hedge fund inside a venture capital firm. My first boss here was one of the funniest people I've ever met, and also a genius working on some crazy cool AI stuff that I didn't understand. My peers / pair programmers, also geniuses, were so much fun to work with and learn from every day. We were building some super cool, top-secret technology to help certain humans make profitable investment decisions.

One of my favorite parts was getting treated to fancy Austin restaurants for lunch every week and every time we fixed a major bug.

It was here that I got to master the pandas python library, advanced PyCharm features and endless debugging, understanding why floats are truly evil, and achieving remarkable precision on reproducing the gold standard trackrecord in a fraction of the time with scalable abstractions.

AlienVault was acquired by AT&T Business, and together we formed the new organization called AT&T Cybersecurity. It was really cool because there was great camaraderie among the AV team and a lot of excitement from what I saw on both sides. I'll never forget when the AT&T executives, our new leaders, came to visit and had some great human-to-human conversations and interactions with the merging teams.

As a low priority relative to more important M&A-type activities, my position, unfortunately, ended up directly under a new leader (not from AT&T, just a new hire / former colleague of the one VP who kept trying to take my Mothership - pretty sure he didn't like me because I pointed out to his boss that a new on-prem installation of SQL Server is a bad idea because everyone is moving to the cloud) -- this new structure wasn't a good fit for me, and one day, tired of explaining how the tech works for the 5,000th time while being excluded from just about everything, I rage quit without a backup plan.

Orchestrated all Business Intelligence capabilities for Customer Success Operations.
- Customer Health Model - USM Anywhere Go-Live Tracker - Cost vs Revenue per Customer - Post-Mortem Customer Analyses - Metrics for Tech Support, Training, Pro Services, Certification, etc.

Independently designed, implemented, and maintained an automated, highly interactive BI report for the Customer Success organization at AlienVault.
- As the primary stakeholder, the VP of Customer Success was surprisingly happy to see a Power BI version of the exact tables and charts that he was used to seeing in Excel every week, month, and quarter. I began to realize this was a big deal when I saw the look on his face as I explained that nobody on the team had to do any work to update any of these reports moving forward (it previously took a lot of people a lot of time to get these reports updated)
- The whole team could now access and visualize their own metrics that were being tracked
- The sales guys loved the info I provided on their customer accounts that couldn't be found anywhere else (does this customer need help? how are they using the product? last login? last update?)

Business Intelligence Analyst

Aspiring to live the Silicon Valley dream, I joined a really cool team of people at a mid-size cybersecurity startup and wrote my own job description.

Surrounded by a global team of Technical Support Engineers (TSEs), I spent most of my time absorbing everything around me, having fun cross-functional conversations with team members, and channeling everything I learned into what my colleague and I called the "Mothership".

The AlienVault "Mothership" was our AWS EC2 Ubuntu instance running MongoDB and cron-scheduled python scripts, gathering data from all internal (raw server log files, telemetry databases, etc.) and external (Salesforce, Jira, AWS, etc.) data sources I could get access to. 

This project started with an initial ask (delivered within my first ~2 weeks) to determine how many customers were using each release version of the product (an on-prem server / unified security management appliance); it evolved over time and soon became foundational for all Business Intelligence capabilities within AlienVault's Customer Success organization.

I enjoyed this experience because: 
- As an engineer with an AWS account in a supportive startup environment, I got to play with all kinds of cool Cloud resources and new [to me] technologies like Neo4j, ElasticSearch, D3.js, and to see "under the hood" (navigate the db) of CRM and ticketing systems
- As the new girl / fresh CS graduate, everyone was really supportive in helping me understand the business & technology, and many of the leaders took an interest in helping me navigate and begin to grow my career
- It was during this time that I fell in love with Power BI: the exact tool I was looking for (before I had ever heard the term "Business Intelligence") but wasn't aware of until the CRO gave me a high five and said "Hey Nicole, download Power BI" while walking past my desk. [The following Monday, my boss got to present his new interactive Power BI report of the global Technical Support metrics we'd been tracking!]
