A bit about me: I am a communication designer turned visual thinking expert. 

As much as I love everything visual, pretty design images or even illustrations aren't the most important. 

The prettiest design doesn't help if your messaging – or your product – is missing the mark.

But it is almost impossible to see how to connect the dots for your business especially if you have many ideas! 

That's where I come in with my pencil. 

I use strategic sketching and a powerful story-driven framework.

At Ultrasonic Advisors (UA), my focus is on serving ultrasonic device companies with product development support. I have a whole host of expertise in this area, but I focus on proving my clients with finite element simulations to accelerate their prototyping and experimental work.

My goal is to help to provide simulation support for your transducer project.

I have a proven process of evaluating your transducer issue from acoustic, electrical, mechanical, and software/firmware aspects - understanding the link between all of these systems is at the core of my approach.

Learn Piezo

•	Created the first website of its kind to facilitate advanced understanding of piezoelectric materials and their applications through the medium of online free video lectures
•	Developed over 30 hours of video lectures resembling a course experience
•	Provided consultation for researchers in academia and industry for ultrasonic transducers, sensors, actuators, and energy harvesting applications of piezoelectric materials

Piezoelectric/Ultrasonic Device Expert

Supporting the development of ultrasonic surgical devices in the area of ophthalmic surgery:
•	Performed ANSYS simulation of ultrasonic vitrectomy (Vitesse) and emerging phacoemulsification handpieces, which matched experimental data and drove design decisions
•	Served as the technical leader in root cause analysis studies on ultrasonic handpieces
•	Developed IP toward advancements in ultrasonic surgical handpiece technology
•	Introduced innovative measurement techniques to capture synchronous ultrasonic vibration and electrical measurements
•	Managed personnel responsible for executing testing, including preparing SOP's and training material to regular support
•	Supported evaluation of surgical handpiece prototypes by ophthalmic surgeons in a simulated OR environment
•	Conducted Gage R&R studies to evaluate and improve the quality of measurements driving qualification of devices

Ultrasonic Transducer Engineer

Washington University in St. Louis

Visiting Researcher (BAW Piezoelectric Microfluidic Devices)

•	Developed COMSOL simulations to study the acoustic interaction of microfluidic channels and ultrasonic excitation from bulk piezoelectric elements
•	Contributed novel ideas for proposal seeking continuing funding for the laboratories research objectives
•	Created characterization modules to determine the electrical performance of piezoelectric bulk elements applied in BAW (bulk acoustic wave) microfluidic devices
•	Mentored graduate and undergraduate students and assisted in the directing of the research activities of the laboratory

Postdoctoral Researcher (BAW Piezoelectric Microfluidic Devices)

Kulicke & Soffa

•	Performed advanced analysis of the performance of piezoelectric wire bonding transducers using mechanical and electrical diagnostic methods
•	Established requirements for manufacturability, cost, and performance for modification of existing electro-mechanical transducers and assembly fixtures
•	Optimized process to assemble and bond the different parts of a transducer to reduce number of needed components and number of assembly steps 
•	Created engineering drawings for transducers and fixtures with NX CAD software and ProEngineer
•	Simultaneously worked on several types of projects, including failure analysis, programming, and mechanical design 
•	Designed accelerated life validation tests to verify performance of transducers during expected service time in the field and also determined specifications in these tests for quality assurance
•	Assessed the root cause of failure for several transducers returned by customers
•	Served as an area-expert on a multidisciplinary team investigating the optimization of transducer-bond tool performance
•	Delivered detailed reports and presentation during collaborative work with customers to optimize wire bonding performance and reliability of the transducer and total system 
•	Examined the effect of the ultrasonic driving system, in combination with motion control x-y-z-theta controls during the wire bonding process
•	Planned and executed experiments needed to evaluate the effect of design changes needed to make transducers ROHS compliant 
•	Developed Python code for data acquisition, processing, and modeling

International Center for Actuators and Transducers

•	Developed experimental techniques for measurement of properties in piezoelectric materials to produce reliable and consistent results while reducing the number of parts needed for the experiments and complexity of the procedure
•	Performed duty as assistant laboratory manager, which included guiding the research projects of undergraduate and junior graduate students, as well as equipment setup, purchases, and laboratory organization
•	Established protocol for testing and evaluation of experiments to be followed by members of the research group
•	Worked with piezoelectric material manufacturers on lead-free piezoelectric material development and performance analysis for ROHS compliance
•	Wrote and submitted proposals seeking financial support for the research group for over $500k
•	Developed Python and LabVIEW programs for GUI design, data acquisition, and data processing
•	Worked on a team of researchers optimizing the driving circuit for resonant piezoelectric transducers based on circuit simulations using OrCAD PSpice
•	Arranged the instrumentation necessary to develop a bending-type ultrasonic motor using asymmetric drive pulses 
•	Assisted engineering companies to use the characterization facilities hosted by ICAT
•	Contributed/authored to 8 peer reviewed journal articles and more than 20 presentations in international conferences

Electrical Engineering Research Assistant

Micromechatronics, Inc.

•	Designed, assembled, and experimentally characterized transducers using electrical and mechanical test methods
•	Used Solidworks to create CAD models and drawings for transducers
•	Analyzed the root cause of transducer performance issues in relation to assembly procedure and customer requirements
•	Performed optimization studies on an ultrasonic machining piezoelectric device 
•	Developed C++, Python, and LabVIEW software for simulation, data acquisition, and data analysis, as well as GUI development, for different devices and materials testing
