I'm responsible to lead the team and design the architecture of a new application of Point of Sale (POS) for retail, retrofiting all the features of the current desktop and mobile applications.

The new application architecture was designed to be multiplatform, loose coupled, event-oriented, reactive and fail-safe. 

The architecture is managed by a core component already used in the current desktop and mobile applications running on Android payment terminals.

The core enables communication between the user interface and the microservices. The microservices are  third-party services and device controllers. Examples of third-paty microservices are payment gateways, zip code services, loyalty programs, and credit score checkers.  Device controllers are printer, scale, and fuel dispenser services.

I've implemented a new service, the "Event Manager", which manages the message communication among system components based on the concepts defined on RabbitMQ (but not using it). The service was implemented based on the principles of Clean Code and Architecture.  All the components are connected to the Event Manager from a websocket to send identification and subscription events and to receive subscribed events, making them event-reactive.

For instance, when a cashier completes a sale on the POS application, the core persists the transaction, triggering the Event Manager to notify subscribed components, such as the printer service, enabling it to print the customer receipt without the POS application direct knowledge of the printer's API routes.

The new desktop POS application is currently in development and is being piloted with one of the company's partners.

The Event Manager is already in production adding some reactivity the POS mobile application without requiring to change a single line of code.

I work using Test-Driven Development, conducting peer reviews, following Scrum practices and investigating bugs reported by the support team for current applications.

Senior Principal Software Engineer

I was responsible for design and implement the architecture of a microservice to issue and communicate tax invoices and other taxes documents to the brazilian tax authority of the seller state. 

The new service design was motivated by five reasons: 1. same business rules implemented in four applications maintened by different teams; 2. every time a new rule was released, all the applications had to be to updated; 3. rules to generate each tax document were harcoded; 4. poor treatment of communication failures; 5. elevated number of support tickets regarding communication failures, lack of necessary information and errors on formating documents. 

Each brazilian state tax authority offers its own SOAP-based service using the same XSD format. The task of the issuer is generate an XML in compliance of a XSD schema, sign the XML with a A1 digital certificate, wrap it up on a SOAP envelope, send a request to server for authorization and treat the response success or rejection.

The new microservice implemented that process in Go using interfaces, templates and goroutines, centralizes the business rules and replaces the code of those four applications: three Point of Sale applications and one ERP. The ERP consumes the microservice running on Docker containers on cloud servers and the POS applications consumes a microservice running on-premise server.

Key achiments:
- Low memory footprint: the microservice consumes just 11Mb of RAM
- Reduction of 83% of time to issue and comunicate the tax invoice: from 6 to less than 1s
- Reduction to almost zero support tickets per month concerning tax invoice failures
- Elimination of more than 30.000 lines of duplicated code on four applications
- No code changing for new rules of tax authority, just update a SQL function and a go template
- Implemented a type of document that enables the company to start operations on the Ceará state
- Issuing documents since 2022 for more than 3.000 companies

up!wifi

I've created up!wifi, a platform to help retail companies to understand the profile of their consumers to leverage sales results. The platform creates customer profiles using time spent on store, rate of visits and personal data from the consumers like gender and age.

I've design the whole solution which is comprised by two applications, the one which splashes a page when the user connects on Wi-Fi, called hotspot splash page and the other one is a dashboard avail reports to the customer. 

The splash page collects data from the user that connects on an opened in-store Wi-Fi to build a CRM based on customer profiles. All the data can be used by the marketing team  to increase the number of visits per month, lowers the time between visits, advertises exclusive promotions and discounts in order to increase the incoming of the store, respecting the GPDR and the brazilian counterpart law, LGPD.

Our customers are restaurants, hospitals, medical clinics, supermarkets, malls, gyms, bus companies, toll companies. Other class of customers is event companies which need temporary Wi-Fi network infrastructure to attend  in a business ou academical conventions with requirements of hundred to thousands connections, high coverage, high throughput and low latency. 

As Founder I learn how to deal with all the company paper work, since the opening, legal registration, accounting, marketing, billing, taxes, negotiation, find new customers, renewals and churns.

The company operates in 8 cities in Brazil and registered more than 1 million visits of more than 250.000 consumers from 2016 to 2020. 

Today upwifi is composed only by me to support just a dozen companies.
It is more a side project which I can prove some concepts and new technologies and apply in a real world application. I've integrated up!wifi with the most significant Wi-Fi manufacturers and third party marketing tools like email and SMS.

Smart Home automation (domotics), audio and video system integration.

Imagine a projection room, or a conference room or a home theather room composed from receiveirs to control the audio and video, lighting switchs, HVAC, screen and projector hidden on the ceiling and you have to prepare the room for a presentation. You need to know each button of every remote, swtich, knob to move in the right sequence to setup the room or at least have a handy manual. 

I was responsible to create an app and build a button labeled as 'start presentation' that magically press all the buttons on each equipment to get the room ready for presentation in a few in seconds.  No need to remember or learn anything.

As a Software Engineer, I was responsible to design, implement and test all the commands sent to control the equipments and put altogether on app in a interface with incredible experience for the user.
The app was designed using on a WYSIWYG windows application that create pages, buttons, knobs which send commands to apparels connected by serial port, TCP/IP or IR control on the whole smart building. 

I have created drivers to integrate automation equipments from different manufacturers using JavaScript that send and HTTP requests to control and get feedbacks from the devices. Here are some mashups I did with Javascript drivers: RTI controlling S-BUS and Global Caché; RTI controlling Bticino and Global Caché; CommandFusion controlling S-BUS, BTicino and Global Caché; RTI controlling Poly video conferences.

As a Co-founder, I was responsible for financial and a shared responsability of project management.

In 2014, I had an idea for a new product called up!wifi.

From 2012 and 2016 we delivered 60 project of smart homes and 20 projects in corporate buildings. 

In 2016, I left the company to focus on up!wifi then I sold my shares to the remaining co-founder. 

The company still active, it pivoted to video conferences projects and was rebranded as VideoMe.

I was responsible for analyzing, estimating and developing new features for ERP Oracle Retail (former RETEK). 

On of the most important projects I participate was controlling stock, loss prevention, shelf life and near-expiry of refrigerated products on supermarkets in Portugal. 

When a refrigerated product is near-expiry, i.e. package of 6 yogurt containers, there are three possible outcomes with disavantages:  1. the product exipires and it is accounted as total loss; 2. the product is returned to the factory to become another product for small fraction of the price the company has bought and has a net loss; 3. the store wrap up two packages of the product and sell both as one, losing track of stock and 50% of profit.

I've implemented a feature on ERP that enables the manager of the refrigerated products prevent all the disavantages listed above: a near-expiry label that has a new barcode and new price with discount.

After the feature entered in production, the company could differ the near-expiry sells from those within the expiration, could keep track of the stock, could test the discounts that the customer accepted to buy a near-expiry product, could identify the stores that the customers are more inclined to buy near-expiry products and transfer products among the stores.

The feature brought to the company significant savings on financial values and operational hours of stock audition.

Senior System and Business Analyst

My role was lead the team of seven professionals in Brazil to act as a second line support of Portugal support team and report the progress to my manager.

This team was responsible to analyze and solve incidents of stores in Portugal and Spain, speaking in Portuguese and Spanish.

I was the only person who spoke Spanish on that time so all the incidents occurred on stores in Spain were forwarded to me.

As member of the engineering team who designed and built the Front-office application, it was my responsability to analize the criticity of the issues reported by the store team and interact with the engineering team every time we found a possible bug and help the engineer to reproduce the error providing the necessary information and data.

It was part of my role to organize the duty schedule of the night shift and weekends to answer for urgent calls to solves issues.

In 2010, the application was stable, all the professionals of my team were very well trained and working autonomously, the portuguese support team was trained, the number of tickets dropped to a scale that did not justify a seven people team.

Two professionals were promoted as software engineers to implement new features to the front-office, and a thrid one showed leadership skills to assume my role. 

My manager was promoted to manage a larger team responsible by the ERP and invited me to assume a Senior System and Business Analyst position and I accepted.

Lead Technical Support Engineer

I was responsible to support technically the pilots of the new application on choosen stores of each vertical of the company to validate and address every issue on application to the business needs, report and address the bugs to engineering team.

During 14 months and 10 trips, I've acquired knowledge from the business stakeholders and I shared with the development team at Tlantic when I back to Brazil every 60 days.

When I was in Portugal, I had to solve problems all alone every time it occurs before 8AM in Brazil.

I've shared technical knowleage to train the L1 support team in Portugal to solve small issues and designed tools to automate tasks of installation for the rollout team needs.

I was the liason among three teams: store team, support team in Portugal and engineering team.

Also I was responsible to report the progress of every pilot to my manager.

As a result, I was invited to back to Brazil to lead a team of L2 support formed from two professionals of rollout team and two engineers of the development team, to solve issues from stores in Portugal and support and answer phone calls from stores in Spain every time the Portugal team could not answer.

Senior System Analyst

In 2005, Sonae Group sold the brazilian retail store operation to expand to Europe.

The company had four different Point of Sale software running on portuguese stores, one for each hardware manufacturer.

They need a new Point of Sale application which: works with the current equipment; unifies all features of the four current applications; works for all verticals of the company; and works in multiple languages.

Also there were non-functional requirements the application should attend: high performance, high availability, and work with heterogeneous hardware from different hardware manufactures.

I was part of the team of three Software Engineers which wrote this application from scratch since the first line of code.

The application was written in C++ and PHP, running on Linux boxes. It was a multilayer architecture, microservice oriented, using serialized messages on queues. 

The development process steps count with code and peer review, test driven development, design patterns and coding standards.

The project was documented using use cases, UML diagrams applying design patterns. 

I mentored the development team of ten engineers to follow the “Architecture Cookbook” written to maintain patterns and make design decisions easier to the youngers and newcommers.

I also support the QA team to elaborate test scenarios and I personally validate each release, testing the installation and upgrade process before deliver it for the validation of the stakeholders in Portugal.

As a result for my commitment to deliver, to take a initiative play willingly a diversity of roles, most of them beyond my responsabilites, my manager invite me to travel to Portugal for two months to lead a squad of three professionals to pilot the first store with the new application.

The company is a Brazilian industrial automation software producer for HMI/SCADA projects and interfaces for many types of application and devices. 
I was responsible for development of build communication drivers with those devices, getting data from its sensors, setting parameters and controlling the devices from inside the Elipse software (E3 and SCADA).
The most notable achievement on Elipse was a development of an algorithm to reduce the resources consumption of a specific PLC doing a reorganization of the reading operations in blocks. As a result, the driver was 50% faster than its predecessor and reduced in 98% the need of memory reading. 
The development process count with code and peer review, test driven development, design patterns and coding standards.
All the drivers had its own technical documentation in Portuguese and English.

As Support Analyst analyzing incidents, measuring its impacts for the customer's business, orienting support team on technical and business issues, finding contingencies, helping development team to realize the root cause of incident, improving technician communication skills to inform incident resolution to the final users using Service Desk Tool.
