Just got a text from a placement officer in a University.
"8 out of 12 students we trained with you got offers this week."

These were the students who kept failing final rounds.
Good grades. Strong technical skills. But they'd freeze in behavioral interviews.

We ran a 4-day intensive two weeks ago.
Focus: answering "Tell me about yourself" without rambling for 5 minutes.
That's the whole training.

One question. Four days. Practice until it's muscle memory.

Result: 67% placement rate from a group that was 0-for-15 in previous rounds.
The placement officer said: "We thought they needed interview prep. They needed one answer done right."

Most placement training tries to cover everything.
I focus on the question that decides everything.

After training 200+ professionals this year, I noticed one pattern:

People don’t fail because of poor English but because of tiny habits that destroy credibility.

#1 Apologizing before speaking
“Sorry, this might be stupid but…”
→ Instant loss of authority.
Say: “Here’s what I’m thinking.”

#2 Using soft language instead of direct communication
“We should probably…” when you mean “you need to…”
Confusing. No ownership.

#3 Avoiding tough conversations to stay “nice”
Being nice ≠ being clear.

#4 Going silent when you don’t have an answer
Say: “Don’t have an answer yet — will update by EOD.”

Last month, I coached a client-facing team in a finance company struggling with all four.

We fixed these habits.
Three weeks later, their client-interaction scores went up by 40%.

Communication problems aren’t skill problems, they’re awareness problems.

Which one of these have you caught yourself doing this week?

A company asked me to fix 12 people in 2 weeks. 

Two weeks.
For a team of 12 people who genuinely didn’t enjoy presenting.

I joined their next client pitch.
Slides overloaded with text, lil eye contact, flat delivery.

The client was disengaged by slide 3.

But something stood out:
When the team spoke casually, without slides, they were clear, confident, and genuinely persuasive.

The issue wasn’t their communication ability. It was the presentation format.

So I didn’t “train them to present better.” I changed how they present.

New structure:
– Max 7 slides
– No bullet points
– Visuals + one-liners
– Everything else is a conversation

Three weeks later, the manager messaged me: “They closed a major deal. The client said it was the clearest pitch they’d seen.”

Same team. Same product. A better structure.

Sometimes the problem isn’t confidence or communication,
It’s the format.

Is your team dealing with the same thing?

I ask participants to introduce themselves at the start of every workshop.

Name. Role. One word to describe how they’re feeling today.

Last month’s session responses:
“Tired”
“Exhausted”
“Drained”
“Surviving”

Out of 24 people, only 3 gave a positive word.
And this wasn’t a burnout workshop — it was leadership communication training.

During breaks, I started asking more questions. The same patterns kept repeating:
•	“I sleep 8 hours but wake up tired”
•	“I’m constantly bloated”
•	“This belly weight just won’t move”
•	“I feel heavy after every meal”
I’ve heard this 40+ times across recent workshops.

Different companies. Same symptoms.

And here’s what clicked:
This isn’t just stress or workload — it’s the liver silently taking the impact.

We rarely think about liver health until something serious shows up.
But every single day, the liver is quietly working in the background — processing everything we eat and drink, filtering toxins and stress hormones, and powering metabolism and energy.

When the liver is overloaded, the first signals are subtle:

I tell every L&D team the same thing:
Stop teaching your people to communicate better.

They look at me like I’ve lost it. But here’s what I mean.

If your team needs constant meetings, check-ins, and alignment calls - your processes are broken. Not your people. Your systems.

I track something I call The Clarity Ratio: 
Hours spent communicating ÷ Hours spent executing.

The higher that number, the more broken your workflows.

One team I worked with? 18 hours a week in alignment meetings.

We didn’t fix their communication. We redesigned how they documented decisions.

Meetings dropped to 6 hours. Output jumped 40%.
Because most companies solve communication problems by adding more communication.

I solve them by asking: What system would make this conversation unnecessary?

What’s eating up your team’s time that could be a process fix, not a communication fix?

Your 9.5 CGPA means nothing in that meeting room.
Harsh? Yes. 
True? Also yes.

75% of companies say their recent graduate hires were unsatisfactory. 

Not because they lack knowledge. 
Because they communicate like they're still submitting assignments.

The shifts no one teaches:
Emails → Lead with what you need. Context comes after, not before.
Meetings → Stop waiting to be called on. Silence isn't respect, it's invisibility.
Questions → Stop pretending you know. "Can you clarify?" is a sign of maturity.
Updates → Stop over-explaining. Your manager wants outcomes, not your thought process

Academic communication rewards thoroughness. 
Professional communication rewards clarity.

Different audience. Different rules.

The gap is real. 
But it's fixable, once you know what to unlearn.

What's the first communication mistake you had to unlearn at work?

"Before every difficult conversation with my mother-in-law, I call you."
My client wasn't joking.

She'd discovered something profound:
The way we prepare for in-laws is EXACTLY how we should prepare for stakeholders.

Think about it:

With in-laws, we:

Research their preferences
Avoid trigger topics
Find common ground
Manage our reactions
Choose our battles

With stakeholders, we... wing it?

Got approval in first meeting.

📌 She stopped seeing them as titles. Started seeing them as humans with preferences.

Your stakeholders aren't that different from your in-laws.

Both need respect, understanding, and strategic navigation.

I was prepping for my next TEDx talk.
Until the organizers reminded me that a big platform doesn't mean basic respect.

Everything was confirmed.
I sent a follow-up about logistics. What came back made me read it twice to believe it was real.

They dropped me. No apology. Just comments about quality being compromised and zero accountability for backing out after confirming me.

Ideas worth spreading. That's what they say, right?
Guess respect for speakers didn't make the list.

I don't usually call things out. Most of us don't. 
We move on. Stay professional. Keep things clean.

But here's the thing. Staying quiet when someone treats you poorly doesn't make you professional. It just tells them it's okay to do it to the next person too.

Have you had to call out unprofessional behavior, not for revenge but accountability?

Most communication training is an expensive waste of money.

And it has nothing to do with the frameworks or the trainer's skills.

It's because we're teaching people to drive while they're blindfolded.
The blindfold? Lack of self-awareness.

- The rambler doesn't know they ramble. 
- The interrupter doesn't know they interrupt. 
- The vague emailer thinks they're being professional.

You teach them 15 techniques. 
They sit there thinking - "useful... for other people."

That's why I stopped starting with frameworks.

Week 1 is now mirror work.
1. Record yourself in a meeting. 
2. Get anonymous feedback from 5 colleagues. 
3. Read your last 10 emails like a stranger would.

Uncomfortable? Extremely. 
Skippable? Absolutely not.

You can't fix what you can't see.
