Four years ago I sat in this booth cold calling every single day

Mobile phone
Office numbers

The goal?

They hold grudges, they put things off and next thing you know they're in their fifties and their commitments stack up so high they convince themselves it's too late 

THE INTERNET HAS EVERYTHING YOU EVER WANTED TO LEARN

- Want to open a coffee shop at 19? 
- Become a YouTuber at 42? 
- Become a professional skateboarder 59?

There are no rules you can literally just do things

Big deal you get in debt

You could be 86 sat in 100k worth of debt and die the next day but at least you'd say

"Woah my life was sick"

There were points many years ago I thought I'd never have a family

I spent so much time and energy worrying and thinking about it 

And before you know it you've got a 2 year old running around the kitchen trying to kick you

Like most worries - they never actually happen...

So it's cool doing 10k months like all your favourite linkedin gurus

But being a parent tops it all

I sat the worst call of my career last year

I didn't know anything about the prospect before I jumped on the call

It'd been a ridiculous morning and I'd jumped in unprepared 

I thought I could wing it but when they asked

"What do we do?"

I had no answer. I didn't try and blag it. I just admitted I hadn't had a chance to look.

The prospect was angry. 

They actually bollocked me and then hung up in anger.

I felt like an idiot 

I think Linkedin can sometimes be a showreel of excellence yet everyone that works in sales has to eat glass

Rejection

It happens

Obviously there are many lessons you can take from this...

Prepare
Do research
Look at their website for at least a minute

But actually it's how you bounce back

I didn't spiral

I made a mistake

I felt silly for a minute and then remembered life goes on

One day I'll be dead and I won't be thinking about this guy on my deathbed

Ps. Always know what kind of business your prospect has

One of the first notes I wrote when I came back this year.

Not new leads.

Old conversations.

Relationships that were already built.

Real decision-makers who already trusted you.

In my world, most deals come down to a “data-led decision.”

And honestly, that’s the right way to evaluate.

But data changes.

Budgets shift.

Timelines move.

These things don’t…

How you treated them.

How fast you responded.

How much care you showed.

People remember the last interaction.

And sometimes, the timing was the only thing that was wrong.

Now might be different.

And even if it isn’t, staying in touch should’ve happened anyway.

Closed-lost doesn’t mean closed forever.
