Shoutout to you for driving Lyft or Uber for 8 to 12 hours a day to keep the lights on.

Shoutout to you for doing DoorDash, Instacart, and UberEats just to pay your car note.

Shoutout to you for taking that role as a barista, waiter, waitress, retail associate, warehouse worker, or any job that others might look down on but you took it because you know how to grind.

Shoutout to you for choosing work that may not match your degree or your dream job right now but still showing up every day because survival comes first.

Shoutout to you for putting your pride to the side and doing what needed to be done even when it felt unfair, frustrating, or exhausting.

Shoutout to you for being adaptable, resourceful, and resilient in a world that keeps throwing curveballs.

Shoutout to you for not giving up even when life got loud and heavy. You kept going. You kept praying. You kept believing that a better season was coming.

If nobody told you today, you are doing what you need to do to get through this chapter, and that takes strength. Your story is not over and this grind is not forever. I promise, friend. ❤️

I called a candidate this morning and made them an offer. I asked when they could start and they said, “as soon as possible,” because they have been unemployed for the last year and a half and driving Lyft just to survive.

I see people post about being unemployed on LinkedIn every single day. I see the frustration, the fear and the constant exhaustion. 

So when I get the chance to call someone and say, “You got the job,” especially someone who has been impacted by this economy, it never gets old for me.

That one phone call that I get to make to someone means that rent gets paid, groceries get bought, lights stay on
hope gets restored.

I didn’t get into this industry because of the money, although the money is nice. (I also don’t get paid per hire, I am a salaried employee.) I got into it because I wanted to be the person I felt like I needed during my own job search.

During my job search, I applied to the job that I currently have 30 minutes after it posted on LinkedIn.

I applied directly through their careers site.

I did not have a direct referral that I could add to the application.

I did not know the recruiter recruiting for the role.

I did not know the hiring manager hiring for the role.

The recruiter reached out to me 3 days after my application was submitted and let me know that they wanted to schedule an interview for me to meet with the hiring managers. 

I had an interview with the hiring managers a few days later.

I got an offer for my current job 3 days after interviewing.

I had applied to AT&T 13 times before getting my “yes.”

And before you all say “you are well known so of course it was probably easy for you to get a job,” yeah, it does not work that way. I still have to be qualified for the job. There are plenty of talented people in this market who moved forward when I applied and I got rejected. I have been ghosted. I have been ignored. I have been disrespected. I have gotten the "unfortunately, we would like to move forward with someone else" automated emails after I went through several rounds of interviews like everyone else. So no, having a large following does not equal an automatic job.

What I am trying to say is, going the traditional route of applying still works. You do not always need a referral. You do not always need someone on the inside. You do not always need a direct connection to the manager. Sometimes it really is just your skills, your experience, your timing, and the right set of eyes on your resume.

So when you all say “you don’t know what it’s like to be a jobseeker in this market,” trust me, I do. I have been in your shoes. They were just a different style, a different season, a different journey. 

And that my friends is exactly why I lead with empathy and recruit the way that I do. ☺️

I know you are about to give up, and I just want to remind you that your blessing is on its way.

I know you are tired of waiting.
You are tired of the rejections.
You are tired of making it through several rounds of interviews just to be told that they went with another candidate. Especially when you know deep down that you were more than qualified for the job.

I know you are ready to throw in the towel.
You are ready to give up on your faith, to stop praying, and to stop believing because it feels like God doesn’t hear you, doesn’t see you, or maybe even forgot about you.

But here’s the thing about faith:

Faith does not work when everything is going right. It works when nothing seems to be working.
Faith is not about seeing the finish line. It is about trusting that it is there even when the path is foggy.
Faith is the muscle that grows when you keep showing up, even when you feel unseen.

Faith is a lot like working out. You can’t expect results if you only show up once or twice. The strength doesn’t come from what you do occasionally. It comes from what you do consistently. You have to keep showing up, keep trusting, and keep believing even when you don’t see any progress yet.

You may not see it yet, but something is shifting behind the scenes. The “no’s” are making room for the right “yes.” The delays are protecting you from what was not meant for you. And the waiting is where your strength and your testimony are being built.

Do not give up before your breakthrough. The version of you that is on the other side of this season will thank you for not quitting now.

This isn’t something that’s talked about enough, but it really needs to be. During tough or uncertain times, your mental health matters more than anything. You can’t pour from an empty cup, and sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself and everyone around you is to pause, rest, and reset.

It’s okay to unplug. It’s okay to step away from social media for a bit. I’ve learned that constantly seeing the news or scrolling through everyone’s highlight reels can send me into a downward spiral. Protecting my peace means knowing when to disconnect and focus on what truly fills me up.

Go for a walk. Journal. Pray. Meditate. Listen to music that lifts your spirit. Call someone who makes you laugh. Whatever helps you feel grounded, do more of that.

You don’t need to always be “on.” You don’t need to always be productive. You just need to take care of yourself, mind, body, and soul.

And remember, it’s okay to not be strong all the time. That doesn’t make you weak, it makes you human.

It’s okay to feel your emotions. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is allow yourself to feel instead of pretending everything is fine. True strength looks like vulnerability. It’s knowing when to pause, when to ask for help, and when to give yourself grace.

Marshawn Kneeland scored a touchdown Monday night, one of the biggest highlights of his young career, and now he’s gone.

It’s heartbreaking. He was living his dream, doing what he loved, and in the blink of an eye, he’s no longer here.

While you’re giving yourself grace, make sure you’re giving it to others too. Be kind, because you never really know what someone is dealing with behind their smile or what they’re carrying behind closed doors. ✨
