I had a candidate get an offer 72 hours after applying.

They applied.
They interviewed with me.
They spoke with the hiring manager the very next day.

The manager reached out and said, “We want to make them an offer.” right after the interview. 

That was it.

Let this be a reminder that there are companies out there that are respectful of people's time and make offers in timely manners instead of putting you through the interview Olympics. 

& before anyone says, “this only happens for entry-level roles”, no, it doesn’t.

I only had one interview for the role I’m currently in and received an offer within three days and my role is far from entry level.

Fast timelines don’t equal low standards. They usually mean that the decision-makers know what they’re looking for in candidates and are confident in making that decision.

I made an offer to a candidate today while he was out with his family. In the middle of the call, I hear his wife talking in the background and he says, “Hold on hun, I’m on the phone with AT&T and they want to give me a job.”

Immediately I hear her yell, “Shut up!?!”

I couldn’t help but laugh and keep going with the offer.

Afterward, he shared that he had recently lost his job and that this opportunity was truly situation-changing for his family.

This is why I share candidate stories.

These candidates aren’t numbers. They’re people.

I talk to real people every day who are dealing with real life. Behind every application is someone trying to figure things out, pay bills, take care of their family, and hold onto hope.

Every time I pick up the phone to extend an offer, I never know how much that moment might mean to someone. 

I may not make the final hiring decision, but being the one who gets to say “we want you” will never get old.

I had a candidate reach out to me every single day last week just checking in on their application, and every single time they reached out, I answered them. 

Most days all I could say was, “There’s no update yet, I’m still waiting on the hiring manager to finish interviews,” but I still made sure they heard back from me.

And today? I get to call them and give them an offer. 🥹

It literally takes two minutes to reply to someone. It does not have to be some long, fancy message. 

Just a quick “Hey, no news yet but thank you for following up.” goes a long way. In this job market especially, people just want to know they didn’t get forgotten or ghosted after putting in so much time and energy into interviewing.

This should be a standard recruiting process, and every time I get on this app it honestly shocks me that it is not.

I live by the golden rule and treat people the way I would want to be treated if I were on the other side of that inbox. (I apply this rule to all aspects of my life because that's just how I was raised.)

My child’s daycare just texted and said they’re closed tomorrow because of the weather and moments like this are when I’m so thankful for my job.

I’m grateful to work somewhere that offers paid caregiver time that doesn’t come out of PTO or sick time. I reached out to a coworker to see if they could cover for me, and they immediately said yes without any hesitation.

That’s the kind of stuff people don’t always think about when they’re job searching.

Everyone prays for the salary, but I always say pray for the environment, the leadership, and the benefits too, because you never know when life is going to happen, a loved one is going to get sick, daycare closes because of weather and in that moment a paycheck doesn’t mean much if every curveball leaves you stressed, scrambling, or feeling guilty for being a parent.

I made an offer today to someone who spent 25 years with their previous employer and was laid off early last year.

When I extended the offer, they told me this was their dream company and that they couldn’t wait to start this new chapter.

Let this be your reminder: it’s never too late in your career to apply for your dream company.

You might think you’re overqualified. You might think you’re underqualified. You might think the timing has passed you by, but you could be the perfect fit for the role and not even know it yet.

You’ll never know unless you apply.

People have told me before,
“Don’t talk about God on LinkedIn.”
“That’s not the place.”
“Keep it professional.”

But this platform has become heavy.
So much negativity.
So much fear.
So much comparison, burnout, layoffs, bitterness, and pretending like everything is fine.

And if I'm being honest? God needs to be sprinkled on some of your timelines.

I’m not here to please the algorithm.
I’m not here to water myself down to be more digestible, and I’m definitely not here to shrink what sustains me just to make others comfortable.

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
— Galatians 1:10

If my faith offends you, you can scroll.
If it encourages you, that’s God.
If it convicts you, take that up with Him, not me.

I’ll continue to talk about God.
I’ll continue to give Him credit.
I’ll continue to show up authentically, even on LinkedIn.

If this space can hold toxicity, doom scrolling, and negativity all day long, it can also hold faith, gratitude, and hope.

I woke up this morning with heat in my home, food in my fridge, clean water to drink, my bills paid, money in my account, my family in good health, and still employed.

All praises to The Most High.

We often forget to thank God for the “small” things while waiting on the big blessings, when in reality, those small things are the blessing.

During my job search, I was rejected by two companies after multiple rounds of interviews. At the time, it was discouraging. Now, both of those companies are going through restructuring in the exact departments I would’ve been part of.

This is a real life example of how rejection is often redirection.

I didn’t just pray for a job. I prayed for stability and discernment. I asked God that if an opportunity wasn’t right for the season I’m in, to keep me away from it, even if that meant rejection. Yes, I asked God to reject me.

Often times, when you’re tired of waiting, it’s easy to jump at the first offer without looking at the bigger picture. The wait was worth it. Looking back, I can see the protection.

If you’re experiencing rejection right now, try looking at it through a different lens. What feels like a “no” might actually be God’s way of saying, “not this one.”
