Wondered what it feels like to jump out of a plane at 12,000 feet? 🪂

I’m James Sweeney, it’s lovely to meet you! 

Growing up in the Swansea valleys, I’m incredibly passionate about people - whether it’s our culture, background, passions or the ways in which we process and understand the world around us, it’s something that absolutely fascinates me 🌍

Having gone through life as somebody with a stutter, in addition to facing troubles with my physical and mental health, one of my biggest aspirations in life is to help shape a community in which I can help as many people as possible. 

I’m a very keen writer, starting my own blog page in 2018, called Sweeney’s Blogs, where I shine a spotlight on the topics that genuinely mean something to each and every one of us as people. The page has become a key part of my life, and is one of the reasons how I found out about LinkedIn too, as it goes ✍️

I run a weekly series here called Sweeney’s Song of the Week. For these posts, I shout out some incredible people, mixing in my love for music and making the world a better place at the same time. 

In October 2018, I jumped out of a plane at 12,000 feet raising over £900 for The Alzheimer’s Society, which has to be one of the best (and scariest!) experiences of my life 🪂

Job Role:

- Managing social media accounts for Film, Theatre and Television department under UoR: Instagram, Facebook and Twitter

- Planning and scheduling weekly posts for each social platform 

- Understanding target audiences and creating original, relevant and engaging posts

- Attend weekly/ fortnightly planning meetings
- Research and promote new released content in Film and Theatre industries

- Promote department events and student reminders 
- Take photos and videos of department and student activities 

- Promote department film festival 

- Analyse audience analytics and tailor posts 

- Ensure posts meet accessibility guidelines (closed captions, caps hashtags etc..) 

- Feedback to social media supervisor 

Skills Learned: 

- Brainstorm creative and fun and engaging content 

- Understanding of social media analytics and consumer behaviour 

-Understand Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook  tools, functions (eg igtv, stories, linktree) and algorithms

- Develop department branding: colour schemes and content (language, image) 

- Capturing Raw footage: Photo and  Video content using iPhone and DSLR cameras 

-Editing: Adobe InDesign/ Photoshop, iPhone and in-App editing, quick edits on iMovie 

- Work and mange workload independently 

- Work under time constraints 

- Remote working/ part in-person

Social Media Assistant

Involves: 

-Be encouraging and welcoming
-Showing around prospective students around my department
-Talking to the prospective students and their parents
-Give short speeches on my experience as a current student 
-Chaperone students for interview days 
-Answering any questions or concerns 
-Promote the university, and my departments facilities

Student Ambassador 

Attendee of Sky Inclusion Insight Week (26th Oct-31stOct 2020) 

This event consisted of talks from industry professionals, specifically aimed at underrepresented groups (BAME, Women, LGBQT+) about diversity and inclusion strategies implemented within Sky. 

This event also covered intensive skillset training via presentations and workshop activities showing  current and soon to be graduate:

*How to pitch to companies using sprint planning and agile methods 
*Social media marketing/branding tools for business and personal use
 *Advice on how to communicate effectively with stakeholders in cooperate environments (specifically at sky)

Worked in both drive through and store, the role involved: 

-Accept drive through calls and take orders
-Pay attention to detail, provide aesthetic and tasty drinks 
-Provide speedy, efficient customer service (serve drive through customers with 3mins)
-Serve high Costa standard drinks and food 
-Deal with difficult customers and recommend alternative products  
-Market and up-sell brands products 
-Work as a team and delegate tasks

Barista

A BA Film and Theatre graduate with experience overseeing and executing original independent film projects in team environments. 

My past jobs and voluntary roles have equipped me to work well in team environments, provide amazing customer service, understand sales and communication through upselling brand products to meet business targets, handle pressurising environments and communicate effectively whilst building positive relationships with both clients and colleagues. 

The past 5 years of educational experience and growing interest in the arts have endowed me with a vast range of creative skills that would be beneficial for creative film and tv industries and cooperate companies. 

My top 5 industry related skill sets include:

- Video editing using Adobe Premiere 
- Scheduling organising shoots 
- Brainstorming audiovisual creative concepts
- Social media marketing

This skills list is of course not comprehensive or limited to media and would be simply happy to blend some coffee beans if that’s what your company needs! :)
