What does generosity mean to you?

Generosity can show up in so many ways. Sometimes it’ll be the tangible things we give. A gift, a gesture, a small act that says I’m thinking of you.

Yet generosity is often far more than that.

It’s the kindness we offer in a difficult moment, the time we give when someone needs to talk. The patience we share when maybe it would be easier not to. The ideas we share. The encouragement and belief we pass on… the love, tolerance, and understanding we bring into our work and our relationships.

It appears in our everyday interactions… in the way we respond, the space we create for others, and the willingness to give something of ourselves without expecting anything back.

Because what we give doesn’t always return to us in the same form, and sometimes it may not return at all. And that’s more than alright.

Giving isn’t a transaction. It’s a reflection of who we are.

How has your week been?

For some of us, the answer might be that it’s been pretty good, productive, the things we wanted to get done have been done.

For some of us, we may say it’s been a bit more tricky, a mistake here or there, not getting to do a task or something may have happened that’s left us feeling a little unsettled.

Neither version makes it a good week or a bad one, neither decides whether we’ve truly been successful or not.

They’re simply signs that we’re human.

Saying the wrong thing, changing our minds, having ups and downs, feeling unsure at times, being a little (a lot) messy… all very normal, all part of being wonderfully human.

Wishing you a day ahead where you’re gentle with yourself, especially if you’re having one of those more human days.

Who have you spent time with this week?

Yesterday marked the finale of a leadership programme. During an immersive activity, as I dipped in and out of different rooms, I found myself reflecting on the connections unfolding.

In real time I was seeing people acknowledging one another, encouraging each other, valuing someone’s contribution, inspiring confidence, and offering challenge with care… and accompanied with lots of laughter! 

Looking around the room, it brought into focus the many different people who shape our lives. The people we work with, all of the people we know… our friends, our family. The people who pass briefly through our lives and the stayers who are there through thick and thin…. and of course communities like this one.

Connection sits at the heart of being human. I have an unwavering belief that we’re good people wanting to do good work, just life stuff sometimes can get in the way. 

So today feels like a good moment to recognise those people around us. To acknowledge someone who has encouraged us, valued us, challenged us in the right way, or simply been there.

What goes on behind the scenes for you?

I've always shared some of the behind the scenes alongside the seemingly polished end delivery. Whether it's the wobbly chairs stacked on a desk in a hotel room for a virtual session, the laptop balanced at a strange angle to get decent reception in an obscure destination... the smiling face alongside an internal narrative that's sometimes full of self doubt or simply the hand going up when a mistake has been made.

Because it happens to all of us. It's human.

Yesterday was the launch of our new business, Becoming More, running alongside our current businesses. For Stuart Trevena and I, it's a wonderful opportunity to create truly impactful learning experiences for others... exciting times.

As with most things, there was naturally a lot of planning behind the scenes. Communications, collateral, website updates, videos. We created some brilliant videos with Baked Bean Media one for the website and a couple for LinkedIn. So we were all set for launch....

And then yesterday, I posted the wrong video! I mean it's still a lush video for the website just not the intended LinkedIn one. When I realised, I rang Stu and said, I've messed up. We laughed (maybe some name calling.)

I could have spiralled taken it down and worried... but it really doesn't matter. I could have decided that posting another video today (all be it the correct one), might look like oversharing or all salesy. Or I could look at it differently....

Anyone who did not see yesterday’s video gets to see today's. And anyone who did see it gets two for the price of one.

More importantly, there's learning here.... always learning!

The mistake came from excitement and not checking closely enough. That's ok. Acceptance is not the same as simply excusing anyhing and everything. It's about noticing, owning it, and asking what can I do now. How can I make this better? How can I show up as someone who is trying and human? How can I become more? ( See what I did there!)

So, excitingly, take two. Welcome to Becoming More.

Thank you for the incredible encouragement, belief, and support yesterday. The generosity of spirit meant more than I can say.
