The AI money machine! Well, it's almost impossible to map. But someone has got to do it. This is the circular flow of capital through the AI infrastructure
economy from 2019 to 2032. A rose-tinted version that's being priced in. What looks like a complex web is actually a surprisingly simple money machine.

Here's how it works. Tech giants (Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Meta) invest trillions in AI development and infrastructure. That money flows to OpenAI and cloud providers, who then purchase GPUs and networking chips from NVIDIA, AMD and Broadcom. Meanwhile, OpenAI generates revenue by licensing its models back to Microsoft and others, creating a closed loop. 

The numbers are staggering. Microsoft has invested over $13 billion in OpenAI since 2019. Oracle just signed a $300 billion deal with OpenAI for data centre capacity through 2029. Meta is scaling from 150,000 NVIDIA GPUs in 2023 to 1.3 million by the end of 2025, spending up to $65 billion this year alone. Broadcom's AI chip revenue jumped from $3.8 billion in 2023 to a projected $40 billion by 2026, a tenfold increase in three years.

What makes this ecosystem fascinating is how tightly interconnected it is. NVIDIA recieves infrastructure spending from nearly everyone. The chip makers get paid in advance whilst the AI companies bet on future revenue that may or may not materialise. If we assume that it does however, then this is what it looks like. Long-dated global yields pushing back towards 4%, the highest level since 2009. It is not a quiet move. It is a signal. For the first time in years investors are beginning to doubt that the global rate-cut cycle has much life left in it.

The backdrop explains the shift. Traders are now pricing almost no further cuts from the ECB. Japan is expected to hike. Australia may deliver two more increases next year. Even in the US the Fed is preparing to cut this week yet long bonds are selling off as investors reassess inflation the government’s fiscal outlook and the politics around the next Fed Chair. 

Across developed markets the same story appears. Higher deficits more debt issuance and inflation stickiness are forcing investors to demand a higher risk premium for lending long term.

Look again at the chart and the implication is clear. The era when long bonds offered diversification and predictable yield compression is fading.
If long-term rates remain pinned near 4% what does that mean for equity valuations housing markets and governments already struggling with the cost of debt?

New Talent Alliance

The Consumer Duty Alliance launched the New Talent Alliance (NTA) on 25 March 2024. It brings together many of the sector’s leading academies, training organisations, recruiters and qualification bodies, with the aim of reshaping talent acquisition and development within the financial services profession.

With an ageing adviser population, coupled with consolidation and succession strategies over the past two years, the NTA believes that collaboration will benefit everyone.

Whilst big firms have dedicated academies, small advice firms make up over 80% of the regulated advice sector and even if they’re not planning to recruit new talent, they can still play a key role in promoting the profession and signposting new talent to other firms or academies.

The NTA Steering Group is chaired by Tom Hegarty, recently MD of M&G Wealth Advice, previously MD of the SimplyBiz New Model Business Academy and Chair of the Financial Adviser Apprenticeship Standard. The London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) acts as Secretariat for the Steering Group.

The Steering Group members represent a broad spectrum of expertise from across the sector and other key stakeholders will be encouraged to join NTA working groups, ensuring diversity and inclusivity.
