Jason Chappel

At 18 I worked at Ernst & Young full-time, and studied at university part-time. Amazing experience going into the corporate world that young.

I finished uni and went to London (to chase a girl if I’m honest). It didn’t hurt that I loved finance, London was great for it and I had the passport. 

I got onto the CEO track at HSBC where I excelled and by 25 I was earning £300k per year. 

Meanwhile, Lucy (my wife) could go full time on Bare Kind, roll the dice for us and we got luckier and luckier (funny how hard work over time will do that). 

We saved hard and got to the point where our investment pot + our entrepreneur-sized salary (read meagre!) was greater than our bills and I took the leap with Lucy in BK.

Since 2017 we’ve been saving animals by selling socks. We got lucky (again), nailed Faire the B2B marketplace and became the largest sock brand in the UK on the platform. 

Taking what we learned at BK, we started Candid Founders to help other businesses win their Category on Faire.

Now with the number 1 sock brand in the UK we are going global through distributors and are looking for more. When we aren't busy with the sock business you can find us posting about Candid Founders on YouTube.

It has been 3 years since I left HSBC to go full time on Bare Kind.

When I started, I thought it would be okay to make 1 change and then wait a month to see how things would play out. O how much I had to learn!

I always knew I’d love running my own businesses, and my experience so far hasn’t surprised me one bit. You always hear that the idea is important, but nothing without execution and I still learn that every single day. Even better, with ownership, it’s actually incredibly fun.

There has been twist and turns along the way, and I didn’t expect to be making YouTube Videos as we built Candid Founders, but the journey so far has been amazing.

I’m writing this from my USA road trip, as I sell our socks at Bare Kind, across what can only be described as a colossus of a rich country. I’ve also been meeting clients across LA, Dallas, Nashville, Kansas City, New York and Atlanta, also helping them through our work on Candid Founders.

Just wanted to write this so I could say that life is too short not try the things you think you’d love. You’ll probably be right.
