We started basix.ai because we saw firsthand how doing “sales as usual” prevented sales from happening. My story isn't typical - it's not about steady corporate progression or entrepreneurship from the start.

At 23, as a single dad, my journey took an unexpected turn.

In big corporations, where I stayed longer than planned, I experienced a different kind of growth.

Each night, after my son slept, my dual life as a father and ambitious professional unfolded.

Cold water doesn’t get warmer just because you waited.

You can stand at the edge for hours, thinking, overthinking, bargaining with fear.

But the discomfort doesn’t disappear.
You just delay your progress.

Imagine if great leaders had waited for the “right time.”

→ If a young surgeon waited to feel fully ready before taking their first solo procedure, lives wouldn’t have been saved.

→ If a cricketer waited until they felt confident enough to walk out onto the field, records wouldn’t have been broken.

→ If entrepreneurs waited until the market was safe, or they felt completely sure, we’d have half the innovation we do today.

They jumped.
Not because they had no fear.

An employee who leaves because of salary can always return for the culture.

But the one who leaves because of the culture will never return for the salary.

And we underestimate this far too often.

Leaders chase numbers, perks, revised CTCs, new policies but forget that people don’t stay for money alone.

They stay for how they are understood, and treated

They stay for the trust, the safety, the respect, and the environment they walk into every morning.

Salary can attract talent (surely)

Culture decides whether they remain (definitely)

Because once someone experiences a workplace that values them, hears them, protects them, and helps them grow.

No amount of money can match that sense of belonging.

And once someone feels unseen, unheard, or unsafe 

No amount of money can convince them to return.

So, build a place people don’t want to escape from.

The salary will never have to save you.

Surprisingly, a lot of leaders fall into this trap without realizing it.

They want things done right, they want to protect the vision, and they want to make sure everything reflects their standards (all good intentions).

But slowly, the story starts revolving around one person.

Every win has their name on it
Every decision needs their approval
Every problem waits for their solution

And while it feels powerful at first, it silently limits what the team can become.

Because when people are never trusted to lead, they stop trying to.

When they’re never allowed to fail, they stop taking initiative.

And when the leader becomes the only “hero,” the rest of the team becomes spectators, not participants.

The real strength of leadership isn’t in being indispensable.

It’s in building others so capable, so confident, that they no longer need you to move forward.

For two years, he showed up early, stayed late, and took the lead.

Not every day will feel productive.

Just because you fit in, doesn’t mean you’re in the right place.

Fitting in can feel like belonging, until it starts feeling like shrinking.

Think about it:

How many times have you stayed at a job, a circle, a partnership simply because you fit in?

-You spoke the same way
-Thought the same way
-Worked the same way

But deep down, you knew you were holding back a version of yourself that didn’t quite fit the mold.

Take Steve Jobs, for instance.

He was fired from his own company because he didn’t 'fit in' with the corporate board’s way of thinking. But that same mismatch, that refusal to blend became the foundation for Apple’s comeback story years later.

Or J.K. Rowling, who didn’t fit the publishing world’s definition of 'success.'

12 rejections later, Harry Potter became a cultural phenomenon, precisely because she wrote from a place that was true to her, not to what fit in.

Even in the workplace, we see it every day.

Some of the most innovative people are not the ones who blend seamlessly, but rather those who challenge the status quo.

The ones who question, disrupt, and think differently, even when it makes others uncomfortable.

The truth is, fitting in can be a silent form of settling

How valued would you feel if your boss didn’t just watch you but saw you?

An employee who feels seen will give you far more than someone who feels simply watched.

You know how they say, 'experience is the best teacher'?
What they don’t tell you is that experience charges the highest fee.

With time, you realize that life doesn’t teach through success.

It teaches through silence, failure, and the moments that force you to grow when you least feel ready.

When I look back, these 8 lessons shaped not just who I am as a person, but also how I lead, decide, and connect with people.

1. Even when you trust someone, keep some things to yourself.

Because I’ve learned that not everyone who listens, understands. Some thoughts need space to grow before they’re shared.

2. If you want to build something worthwhile, be ready for criticism

Every meaningful idea I’ve ever worked on faced resistance. 

Criticism doesn’t mean you’re wrong; it means you’re doing something that matters enough to be noticed.

3. Your mental health is way more important than your career will ever be

There were seasons I worked nonstop and lost myself in the process. Now, I’ve learned that protecting peace keeps you moving sustainably.

4. You become unstoppable when you realize you can do it alone

I used to depend on validation.  Then I learned to move even when no one was watching, and that’s when everything changed.

5. Be okay with people not liking you

Because I’ve seen how easy it is to lose yourself trying to please everyone. You’re not meant to be understood by all; only by the right ones.

6. Not everything will go according to plan

And that’s where the best parts of life happen. Most of what’s worked out for me started with something that didn’t.

7. You can always choose to be happy

I’ve had to practice happiness on hard days more than I celebrated it on good ones.

8. Don’t waste your time stressing about things you can’t control

Because every minute spent worrying about what’s outside your hands is time stolen from what is within your reach.

These 8 sentences weren’t always easy to learn, but they’ve shaped the way I see people, build teams, and approach life.

One of my team members came to me last month with a feature idea.

It was clearly not polished
The slides had typos, and the logic had gaps

Honestly, my first instinct was to point out everything that needed fixing.

But I caught myself, and asked: "What made you think of this? Walk me through your thinking."

And what came out was brilliant. 
(raw, unfinished, but brilliant)

We spent the next 30 minutes not critiquing the deck, but building on the idea together. 

She left energized.

Two weeks later, we finalized a version of it
And it was surprisingly successful

This experience made me realize that
She wasn't looking for permission to have the perfect idea. 
She was looking for space to improve it.

The moment I stopped needing her to prove it was ready, she started focusing on actually improving it. And that's when the real work happened.

I see this pattern everywhere now. 

People spend weeks perfecting proposals because they're afraid of looking unprepared. 

Teams hold back ideas because they're not "fully baked." 

Engineers over-engineer solutions because shipping something imperfect feels like failure.

Early on, I'd give feedback that felt like judgment. 

The shift for me came when I stopped seeing unfinished work as a problem and started seeing it as an invitation, an invitation to think together to build together, to fail forward together.

Because proving creates fear, but improving creates momentum.

When people are trying to prove themselves, they hide mistakes, avoid risks, and protect their image. When people are focused on improving, they share early, iterate fast, and actually grow.

My role isn't to be the gatekeeper of good ideas. It's to create the conditions where good ideas can become great ones.

So now I ask different questions:

❎ Not "Is this ready?" but 
✅ "What do you need to make this better?" 

❎ Not "Why didn't you think of this?" but 
✅ "What would you do differently next time?"
