Sometimes when I have introduced myself as #TheLinkedInGuru (Teacher) I have jokingly said that GURU stands for "General Understanding, Relatively Useless". Well, I believe GURU stands for "Gets to Uncover the Real Usefulness" instead.

Since I retired at the end of 2007, my focus has been volunteering and devoting my time to being a Professional Networker / LinkedIn Guru (Teacher), teaching Networking and LinkedIn and I have trained thousands of professionals in how to maximize their networking skills and best utilize networking tools.

Networking is the life-blood that feeds the process of building relationships. Networking is important in all aspects of our lives. I believe that LinkedIn is one of the best tools available to help you find the right people, connect with them and build long-term relationships. That's what I do and that's what I can help you do.

EFS has provided career assistance and resources to nearly 30,000 clients, free of charge, over the past 40 years.  Our trained volunteer job counselors work with clients, prepare them for their job search, and connect them to employers through our job referral process.   Registration is an easy ½ hour appointment and can be scheduled by calling the EFS office at 614/863-1219.

For several years now I have volunteered my services to EFS as a Professional Networker/LinkedIn Guru and as a trainer focusing on how seniors can use LinkedIn as a tool for networking and job search.  I wholeheartedly support the mission of this fine organization.

Well, no, actually.

My thanks to Joe Lander this morning for perfectly demonstrating why video IS becoming so important. It has more impact than images, it increases dwell time and is only going to get better!

How to search better (OFF LinkedIn) 🚀

Right now, a lot of people are panicking about LinkedIn’s new Brew360 changes.

❌ Search is changing
❌ Reach is getting squeezed
❌ Some features have gone
❌ Others feel hidden behind “Premium + wishful thinking”

But here’s the thing.

I’m not worried. At all.

Because I’ve never relied on LinkedIn’s search options to do the heavy lifting for me!

I’ve always used Boolean search properly.

And I’ve always used Google to find what LinkedIn prefers to hide. 🫣

And guess what?

It still works. Beautifully. ✅

Boolean isn’t a geeky trick.

It’s a commercial skill.

Most people are clicking LinkedIn filters and wondering why nothing shows up.
Meanwhile, I’m slicing through LinkedIn data via Google:

✅ site:linkedin.com/in/
✅ AND, OR, NOT
✅ phrases, wildcards, parentheses
and more…

This works for CEOs, recruiters, founders, jobseekers, sales pros, and creators.
In short, anyone trying to find people, seeking insights, or looking for new opportunities.
