Sometimes when I have introduced myself as #TheLinkedInGuru (Teacher) I have jokingly said that GURU stands for "General Understanding, Relatively Useless". Well, I believe GURU stands for "Gets to Uncover the Real Usefulness" instead.

Since I retired at the end of 2007, my focus has been volunteering and devoting my time to being a Professional Networker / LinkedIn Guru (Teacher), teaching Networking and LinkedIn and I have trained thousands of professionals in how to maximize their networking skills and best utilize networking tools.

Networking is the life-blood that feeds the process of building relationships. Networking is important in all aspects of our lives. I believe that LinkedIn is one of the best tools available to help you find the right people, connect with them and build long-term relationships. That's what I do and that's what I can help you do.

EFS has provided career assistance and resources to nearly 30,000 clients, free of charge, over the past 40 years.  Our trained volunteer job counselors work with clients, prepare them for their job search, and connect them to employers through our job referral process.   Registration is an easy ½ hour appointment and can be scheduled by calling the EFS office at 614/863-1219.

Grammar Goddess Communication

As an editor of primarily nonfiction / business content, my first questions concern the intended reader's likely knowledge of and experience with the topic, along with which version of English the author wants to use.

I look at language, punctuation, segues, consistency, and formatting (typeface, spacing, bold, italics, header size, etc.).

🎤PODCAST TRANSCRIPT EDITOR (aka "Tidy-upper"): 𝐈 𝐝𝐨 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭.

⁉ Have you ever read a raw transcript of a podcast and noticed how many times the speakers said "like," "I mean," "the, the, the," "um, um," or "I'm not sure, well, I think I might, I'm wondering if," all garbled together? It's as though they need to fill the space with sound, even if they're not sure what to say. (And we've all done this, right? I know I have!)

🙀 Surprise! Oral and written communication are often totally different. What doesn't sound so bad in the moment can look awful in written form. In the latest transcript I worked on, I removed about 300 words just by eliminating those redundancies before I even got to the actual editing.

So if you're planning to publish your podcasts in any kind of written form, let me ensure they look 100% professional.

I answered an ad in a Boston, MA, newspaper about working for the international seminar company then known as Fred Pryor Seminars, now known as PRYOR Learning, even though I had NO background in training. It just seemed like an interesting job.

Well, it sure was! 

Through trial and error (so many errors!), I learned the craft of corporate training, and worked internationally with Pryor for five years, a totally astonishing and wonderful experience!

Utlimately, as so many others did, I opened my own training company and created my own material.

Back in 2004, LinkedIn™️was a mere shadow of the behemoth it has become; it was just another platform few knew or cared much about -- including me.

I joined in October of that year because others told me to. I did very little for about 10 years, because I had NO idea what to do or who to ask. Finally I began to "get it," largely thanks to John White, MBA, who saw something I had written and gave me some ideas to help me do even better. He guided my growth for several years, and I'll always be grateful for his help!

Of course, since those early years, I've seen LI grow from a great idea to a worldwide HUGELY successful organization for business professionals to network, help others, and grow their business. 

As of early 2024, there were approximately 1 BILLION profiles, although the latest stats show about 25% are active / alive / succeeding here.

That said, there ARE ways to succeed, starting with a filled-out profile, something far too many users neglect. And since first impressions are huge -- and we want/need to rise above the noise -- we need to stand out quickly in a positive way.

Anyone else having trouble writing 2026? 😁 

I mean, really: Wasn't it just 1999 with all the panic that swirled around us at the thought of making so many changes in things that had the "19" date? All that Y2K stuff? 

But somehow we made it through those tough times, and here we are.

Speaking of which, I just saw Sara Rosinsky's post, and it cracked me up! And the comments are very much worth reading!

And how's YOUR day going, friends? Getting used to having a new year, making plans to make it a wonderful one for you and others?
