This morning I completed my 100th HIIT workout at the gym. Which got me thinking…

Slow and steady wins the race. I go twice a week, consistently.

The instructor who took my picture told me that he sees so many people come four times a week, and then quit.

But like in life and work, playing the long game vs the quick sprint tends to win. 

All those days when we put our head down and work, and not see immediate gratification, but know we’re working towards something bigger.

Happy National Sons Day. To every mom raising sons, and to every son reading this, thank you for being you and contributing to this world. 

I never dreamed I'd be a mom of three boys. But it is the most fun, loud, chaotic, and rewarding thing I have ever done. My Three Sons isn't just a TV show title in my house. It's my life. I've heard more poop and fart jokes than anyone should endure, ever! 

And I wouldn't trade it for the world.

A big part of why I work is to create a better future for my boys. 

I want them to grow up knowing that hard work, courage, and a willingness to start over and try something new are part of the game.

In function and duties, I served in a CEO/Senior VP role, overseeing all aspects of the organization, from public messaging, staffing and budgeting, to recruiting, branding strategy, and community engagement.  As well, I trained, coached, taught, counseled, and project managed on a daily basis.

Copy writing, copy editing, content editing, content writing, grant writing, grant management, proposal writing, proofreading, maintaining an editorial calendar and everything else related to writing or editing was a key aspect of my overall scope.  This included:  speeches, presentations, newsletters, social media posts, emails, short and long form copy, white papers, books, training manuals, brochures, letters, and blogs.

I partnered with internal and external stakeholders, clients, customers, teams and guests to achieve success in retention, awareness, engagement, expansion and fundraising.

From exponential-growth suburbia and rural small town, to bustling community hub and college town, I worked in a variety of geographical and socioeconomic contexts, serving GED to PhD; blue collar to white collar to no collar individuals.

I have held the hand of the dying as they drew their last breath in the morning, and in the afternoon I held a group accountable for their stated personal life goals, while the next morning I held the attention of hundreds of diverse individuals by speaking and engaging and compelling message.

I've also mowed grass, pruned shrubs, cleaned toilets, washed dishes, swept and mopped floors, and took out the trash because that's what needed to be done at the moment.  What kind of leader can I be, if I am not first a servant?
