I turned 30 (just two days back!).

looking back at my twenties, I realize the decisions that scared me the most were the ones that shaped me the most.

here are the 6 decisions that built the life I'm living now:

1/ tutoring kids while I was in college

this was my first taste of financial independence. I wasn't working for someone else, I was getting paid for a skill I had.

that feeling of being self-employed, even in a small way, planted a seed I didn't know would grow into a full freelance career.

2/ taking unpaid writing internships

I found these internships on Internshala when content writing wasn't even considered a "real career." people thought I was wasting my time. but those internships taught me how to WRITE.

honestly, they weren’t the biggest learning curve for my career but those internships gave me the confidence that writing as a career does exist.

it became the foundation for everything that came after.

3/ leaving home in my late twenties and moving to Noida

living alone taught me things I couldn't have learned in the comfort of my hometown.

I learned my own rhythm, my boundaries, what I actually wanted versus what I thought I should want. that distance—physical and emotional—helped me see myself clearly for the first time.

4/ quitting my calligraphy business and giving writing a second chance

in 2019, I dipped my toes into creativepreneurship with calligraphy. even though I was stubborn to make the biz work, I was unable to generate consistent and decent cashflow.

walking away from it was hard but sometimes you need to let go of what's working to make space for what's meant for you.

restarting my writing career was the best reset I ever gave myself. that was the time i started writing on LinkedIn. things have transformed drastically since then.

5/ landing my first international client

I was always scared to even speak to prospects globally. in the initial years, I even delayed talking to them intentionally. but after attending a bootcamp, things changed.

I started pitching. a single YES shifted everything.
it wasn't just about the money—it was about realizing there was a whole world of opportunity beyond what I could see from where I was standing.

it opened my mind to abundance and taught me that my skills had value on a global stage.

6/ choosing my career over the pressure to settle down at 24

when I was clueless about my career, everyone had advice and most of it involved getting married. I'm grateful I didn't listen.

stepping into my thirties still single comes with its own pressures, but the freedom to build a life on my own terms has been worth every uncomfortable conversation.

your twenties are for figuring out who you are.
your thirties are for becoming that person unapologetically.
I'm not done building. I'm just getting started.

I was the biggest bottleneck in my business.

last year: 1 client. 2-week deliverables stretched into a month. some days I "worked" for 2 hours while telling myself I was busy.

during my January review, the truth hit hard. I wasn't lacking skills or opportunities, I was lacking structure.

here's what I changed in the last 15 days:

1/ protected my peak hours

I work 8 AM to 11 AM now. non-negotiable.
before, I'd spend mornings scrolling LinkedIn, doing chores, "warming up." now those 3 hours are blocked for client work only. result? I'm shipping deliverables faster.

2/ started tracking what matters

I built a weekly scorecard in Notion to track:
- hours spent on client work vs. business development
- outreach activities (connections, DMs, emails sent)
- content published
- revenue-generating tasks completed

I made this change after listening to my client on multiple calls: "founders fail when they have big visions but don't use the right tools i.e., a weekly scorecard."

that one stuck with me.

3/ scheduled time for revenue-generating activities

I created good content last year but did almost zero outreach. that changes now.

my Q1 commitment:
- 5 DMs to ideal clients daily
- 5 cold emails daily
- content 3x per week
- more connection requests to ICPs

the goal isn't perfection but consistency.

15 days in, I'm already seeing momentum with the morning routine.
next up: making the scorecard a weekly habit I can't break.

most people think LinkedIn newsletters are a waste of time.

my client S proved them wrong in 60 days.

S has 4,200 followers on LinkedIn. two months ago, he started a LinkedIn newsletter. today, he has 425 subscribers—10% of his entire follower base subscribed.

compare that to his Substack (same niche, similar content), the growth is slow.
