In my early 30s, I was on a fast trajectory upward. 

Everything looked so good from the outside - promoted early, a coveted consulting career while also managing to do "good." 

Yet, inside I felt...so lost. I found my work exhausting, and it wasn't just the long hours or frequent travel. 

Like any good MBA, I tried to do my research -- to figure out what was off and how to fix it. 

I found a few books on purpose and life design, but most career resources were on how to keep accelerating, establish executive presence and influence. 

I eventually found my way to a coach, and that changed the trajectory of my life. 

But I wish there had been a space where I could think about my career and my ambitions differently - more expansively - and to learn from other women doing the same. 

So that's what I created with my Substack - Ambitious Millennial Women - the conversations I wish I had.

Until last week, I’ve been afraid to share one of the biggest parts of myself in my content:

My spirituality.

I cringe even writing that word as I don’t follow organized religion or a formal belief system.

But I do love anything that is a bit “woo.”

Human Design, energy healing, manifestation, astrology, tarot cards.

I’ve dabbled in it all — I love anything that gives me a new perspective on what I’m experiencing or helps me get to know myself better.

I integrate it into my work when clients are interested,

But never in my public persona.

My audience spends their day mastering spreadsheets and advising clients. I assumed it wouldn’t resonate.

But you know what they say when you assume…

One of my intentions for 2026 is “authentic visibility,” or showing all parts of myself more.

So last week, I included a short blurb in my newsletter about the shift in energy from the Year of the Snake (challenge, shedding anything not aligned) to the Fire Horse (momentum, vitality) in Chinese Astrology.

It’s a concept that’s been so helpful for me in making sense of 2025, and I wanted to share it with my community.

Now I know it’s hardly “woo” or outside the mainstream — your Instagram and TikTok are probably flooded with it. 

But still…

I rewrote the section six different times.

Trying to make sure it landed, trying to make sure it wouldn’t turn anyone off.

And you know what?

A small handful of people unsubscribed — but no more than usual.

Way more importantly —

So many women have told me how much resonates — how the concept is helping them make sense of how hard the past year was and given them hope for the coming year.

Which is a good reminder that —

The parts of ourselves that we hide are the very parts that make us distinctive — and draw the right people closer.

And I’m done editing those parts out.

I have so much respect for what Clara Ma is building with Ask a Chief of Staff - so I was thrilled to be invited to speak to her community. 

Being a Chief of Staff was my favorite corporate role. 

I spent two years in the role - on our management team and leading a team of 7 as we grew 30%+ YOY.

Plus, I supported not 1 but 3 Co-CEOs 😅.

So I get it - the best parts of the role, and the toughest. 

You do a little bit of everything, while having access and influence at the most senior levels. 

It's what makes the role so great, but also so hard to figure out what's next.

A Sr. Director of Ops at a high-growth health start-up was laid off a few weeks ago. But instead of panicking, she felt —

Hopeful and excited.

After six years at the company, she was happy.

She loved her team, believed in the mission, and was proud of what she’d built.

She wasn’t planning to leave.

But she also knew she’d become a bit insular.

Her network mostly lived inside the company.

Her narrative was outdated.

When your current role no longer fits — but you don’t yet know what’s next — it can feel paralyzing.

Should I apply for Y job opening? Should I wait?
What am I meant to do?!

Here’s what most ambitious women get stuck on:

Your mind is trying to jump to the answer.

The perfect role. The perfect industry.

A neat, tidy direction you can execute against immediately.

But you can’t jump to the answer without:

Knowing who you are today.

Without that foundation, every option feels both wrong…and like something you’ll regret not pursuing.

So if you’re a high-achieving woman swirling on “what’s next?!”

Buy yourself a coffee this weekend, grab your notebook and answer these questions:

(These are the exact questions I’ve used with 110+ clients to get them to clarity)

1. Who are a few people that I admire? What parts of their life or work spark something in me?

2. If life were a saved Instagram or TikTok folder, what inspires me the most? 

3. What subjects, people, things, experiences, tips, tools would I find myself saving the most?

4. What do I want in my life 10 years from now that I don’t have today?

5. If I dropped the fear of bragging… what am I genuinely exceptional at?

6. When do I feel most at ease, focused and in flow?

7. What problems or injustices make me irate or ignite a rant?

8. What results or changes make me smile?

9. What would I focus on if I had financial freedom or retired early?

Set a timer for ten minutes per question, write without judging or editing.

Let it be messy and honest.

Come back a few days later, re-read your responses and look for the patterns.

Those are your priorities, strengths and passions — the foundation of your next chapter.

Some will confirm what you already knew. Some will surprise you. And some will reflect who you’ve quietly become.

This is where real clarity begins.

Not with the perfect answer — but with the courage to hear yourself again.
