Programme (WIP)
The Women Innovators Programme (WIP) is a partnership between the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in the Arab States and Four Years From Now (4YFN), the start-up platform of the global mobile operators' association, GSMA.
WIP is a mentorship programme for women-led, digital, social impact-oriented start-ups in the Arab States. While women-led start-ups are becoming more common in the region, women face many barriers to entrepreneurship, such as lack of access to finance and discriminatory gender norms. Among the barriers are also a lack of business-relevant mentorship opportunities and networks, which this programme seeks to address.
50 women innovators have received mentoring in the first two editions of the programme. During the course of the 3rd edition 34 additional innovators will receive expert mentoring.

In 2019, I held the prestigious position of global Head of Innovation at IKEA Centres. 

One evening, after a late flight, I found myself on a packed train from Copenhagen, Denmark to Malmo, Sweden, eager to be reunited with my family on the other side. As I stood there, restless and anxious, I decided to tune into a podcast by Seth Godin.

Godin spoke about the education system and how society has become adept at collecting information but often fails to connect the dots. In that moment, a sudden realization hit me. I couldn't help but question my own purpose and the direction my life was taking.

That night, I made the difficult decision to step down from my high-profile role at IKEA Centres. This was the beginning of a new journey for me, one where I was determined to follow my passions and make a meaningful impact in the world.

Earlier.

In 2004, redundancy from my first job after seven years of hard work changed my life. I felt betrayed, I vowed never to leave my destiny in someone else’s hands and committed to rewriting my story.

As I climbed the corporate ladder, human leadership captivated me. I studied Leaders, the inspiring, the indifferent, and the detrimental and uncovered the secret to innovation: empowered teams flourish under empathetic leaders. 

My mantra became: empower to be empowered.

In 2019, a train ride and Seth Godin’s words reshaped my perspective. Leaving IKEA Centres wasn’t the end; it was the beginning. 

My mission crystallized: to connect innovative leaders with their dreams, blending systems thinking, leadership and innovation.

This led to HEITLAND Innovation, a consultancy for human innovation. It wasn’t just about process improvement; it redefined how organizations empower teams to drive sustainable innovation. I co-founded XYZ-Playground a Reverse Mentor Lab and launched WeAreSucceed a leadership Assessment Platform.

To amplify my Thought Leadership, I mastered social media, video production and website design, sharing my insights through my podcasts which inspired Heitland Media Group, an agency helping CEO's to make their credibility visible.

Public speaking has taken me across 30+ global stages, from Moscow to Barcelona, including events like Mobile World Congress and Berlin Fashion Week.

From my construction site beginnings in 1997 to international stages, my journey has been about building ladders for others. 

That train ride wasn’t just a trip; it marked my commitment to reshaping innovation—one human at a time.

McKinsey & Company

As an External Advisor at McKinsey, I was pulled in to provide fresh perspectives. Sometimes, my work was internal in nature (teaching, coaching, supporting, etc) and at other times it is client-facing; assisting with anything from big picture thinking to getting my hands dirty in the field. 

To be honest, the difference in my titles at McKinsey has had minimal impact on the work. And whatever the nature of that work, it's always been interesting - even if I'm sadly not allowed to talk about it! :-)

As a Coach at McKinsey, I was called in from time to time to help on projects both internal and external.  

My specialty is in the fields of experience design, storytelling and live events, but my work was very much cross-industry.

Because of this, I was privileged enough, that I got work on all sorts of interesting stuff with amazing people, while I was in this position.

As a Senior Advisor, my work centered on my expertise in the fields of experience design, large scale culture design, behaviour design and such like (for example, the future of tourism). I also often did work that had a special focus on user experience, experience engineering and customer journeys.

Rollespilsfabrikken

I was one of the founders, and spent 16 years as the chairman of Rollespilsfabrikken, which is a non-profit organisation with around a thousand members and activities in both Denmark and beyond. 

The focus is on creating highly immersive interactive live action role play events, that teach children and adults how to think differently, co-create together and build meaningful connections. 

A powerhouse of creativity and community, Rollespilsfabrikken is not only one of the largest non-profit live action roleplaying organisations in the world in terms of members, but also one of the most influential, with methods and ideas developed here being used across 18 time zones. 

Oh, and as research from the Danish Institute of Happiness Research showed conclusively in 2017, it turns out that getting to be someone else once in a while tends to leads to solid improvements in quality of life. ;-)

Dziobak Larp Studios

Dziobak Larp Studios started as a small, Danish company, and ended as the world’s leading creator of high end, international live action role play events. Some of the more well-known projects include a world-famous wizard school (College of Wizardry) and the rethinking of a water park into an Arabian action myth (Legends of Arabia). 

Sadly, the company crashed in March 2019, in large part due to decisions I made that were based on dreams rather than business sense. Some of the events live on, under different leadership, but most of the team is scattered to the winds - some having returned to previous careers, others still doing amazing things in the larp space.

As founder and CEO, this was a big blow to me both personally and professionally (and not least economically!), but while the Dziobak dream is dead, all the hard-earned skills learned serve me well in other arenas.

Rollespilsakademiet

Rollespilsakademiet (which later grew into Dziobak Larp Studios) is a Danish company focusing on education and entertainment through play. I started it in 2006, together with my older brother, Peter. 

After Peter stepped out a year later, I worked solo for a while, and then Anders Berner joined as my partner in 2008. We ran it together for many years, slowly growing. 

It later grew into becoming Dziobak Larp Studios and what was the Danish division of the company split off in 2018 and still lives on today under the talented leadership of Sofie Støvelbæk. I am no longer directly involved in the day-to-day operations of the company, but it'll always have a special place in my heart.

After graduating high school in '98, I did various things. I put books on shelves at Roskilde Library. I studied philosophy at the University of Copenhagen (twice!). I worked as a pedagogical assistant. I landed my first roleplaying jobs, teaching youth school classes. I published my first book. But before October 2002, I still thought I'd become a high school teacher in History and Philosophy. 

It turns out that was not meant to be... :-)
