I lead an inspiring purpose-driven ecommerce services startup called GoodCarts. Powered by one of a kind post-purchase cross-promotion, we help DTC brands and retailers "grow together" in circles based of values and impact.

With over 500 member stores and growing, we've come out of stealth mode ready for introductions to innovators who empower us to "vote" for good every day as active citizen consumers.

Every day, I connect with leaders in sustainable fashion, fair trade, buy one give one, % to charity, charity-owned, sustainable/recycled products, BIPOC-owned, underrepresented small businesses, Made in USA, and other impact economy retailers online. 

The GoodCarts model is darn simple. It is a much better all digital version of coupons on the back of the grocery store receipt - but focused on and powered brands based on purpose and values.

With technology built by Warecorp, the software development firm of GoodCart's founder Chris Dykstra, the product is solid. The new digital concept is amazing because it actually works. 

As my "next big thing," my number one job is to grow the network of stores one by one, two by two, and then scale up to thousands of stores with the help of impact investing. TV News App - https://tvnewsapp.com - play live and on-demand television news from over 2500 channels across 100+ countries and nearly as many languages. The app has over 2 million downloads on Android and is now available as "TV News Channels" on iOS.

1 Radio News - https://1radionews.com - plays hourly news headlines from top global broadcasters with one simple button on Android. It includes live news and news shows on-demand in English. It pre-dates the similar Amazon Alexa "play me the news" flash briefing feature by half a decade.  The app is loved by news junkies and fans on "shortwave" from yesteryear.

E-Democracy.org

(As of June 2018, I have resumed a volunteer role as the President of the Board for E-Democracy.org. I am an Ashoka Fellow forever.)

After supporting E-Democracy with my global speaking and consulting on open government (over 31 countries) for a decade, in 2009 I officially went to work for this citizen-based organization. The transition from 1/2 time volunteer Board Chair to Executive Director was assisted by my Ashoka Fellowship and then major funding from the Ford Foundation and the Knight Foundation.

I manage and coordinate a handful of part-time contractors and dozens of volunteers. Over the last ten years we have raised and spent nearly $1.2 million dollars in the pursuit of civic innovation online. In 2012 and 2013, during the height our BeNeighbors.org effort, I managed over 25 part-time contractors. Our summer outreach team members spoke over 10 languages total.

One of my key responsibilities and passions is convening people globally who are interested in local-up solutions to building a better future for democracy and community engagement. I do this though public speaking, webinars, and online communities and services like the Democracies Online Newswire and the new Open Government and Civic Technology Facebook group.

With over 100,000 KHub participants, I have the privilege to work with the world's most experienced team at hosting effective online groups in the public sector. KHub has nearly a decade of experience born within the UK government and unleashed as a private company built on deep government and intergovernmental collaboration. At an unparalleled level in public services, they support their online facilitators in the art of effective online community management (these facilitators lead over 1500 online groups).

mySociety

Led a special outreach and online engagement effort for the innovative and very global Poplus.org collaborative civic coding effort on behalf of mySociety.org. mySociety, based in London, is one of the world leading civic technology initiatives.

We've sparked a dramatic increase in online group exchange and membership with participants from over 60 countries and 200+ organizations. 

Planned as a three month boost ending April 1, E-Democracy.org has successfully created new connections among participants and built project momentum. 

Work on the Poplus.org "federation" founded by Ciuadadano Inteligente and mySociety was funded in part by Google.org. See the online group - http://bit.ly/poplusgroup - for the engagement in action.

In 2013, I was honored by the White House as a Champion of Change for Open Government. In 2006, I became an Ashoka Fellow. 

Back in 1994, I launched E-Democracy.org – the world’s first election information website at age 25. During that time my “government by day, citizen by night” insights were built as leader of the State of Minnesota’s first e-government initiative. 

Upon leaving my "day job"​ in government to pursue my passion with building stronger communities and better democracies online, I starting speaking and consulting globally to support non-partisan, volunteer-powered efforts for inclusive online citizen participation through E-Democracy. From Estonia and Libya to Mongolia and most recently Chile and Taiwan, I've spoken on open government, civic technology, digital democracy, and inclusive online community engagement and citizen participation across 35+ countries.

After subsidizing the non-profit E-Democracy for a decade fueled by passion and my time, I worked full-time for E-Democracy from 2009-2015 based on grant resources we attracted for our experimental civic work. I now lead E-Democracy on a volunteer basis as Board President.

My app "side hustle," 1 Radio News is now nearly ten years old with 200,000 downloads on Android. My newer TV News app is now out and rocketed to 2M downloads and in now on iOS as "TV News Channels."
